Castor Oil Challenge Week 12 Check In

By Jenell — May 17, 2012

Thursday May 17, 2012 – Wednesday May 23, 2012

If you didn’t join the challenge in the beginning, You can participate in the Summer challenge (June 1- Sept 1). Go Here to register.

One more week to go!

Next week is our last week. Go out with a bang girls!  Please be ready for our final length check next week.

Don’t forget that you can save 10% on all your jbco purchases from OilsFromJamaica when you use the code KCCM10.

Check In Questions:

1. Will Castor Oil become a staple in your hair regimen moving forward? If so, how do you plan to continue using it?

2. How did you do last week (week 11)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

3. Will you be joining the Summer Castor Oil Challenge?

My answers:

1. Absolutely! I will definitely use castor oil regularly in my regimen. I just wish it wasn’t so darn expensive. My favorite oil is coconut oil and I will incorporate it back into my regimen. I will most likely do my pre-poos with coconut oil and seal with castor oil and then I guess I could rotate which oil I moisturize with during the week.

2. I did great girls! I surpassed my goals and I’ve had no challenges. I am definitely going out with a bang as planned.  I applied JBCO to my scalp, 4 nights. I applied it on my hair 3 mornings and I sealed my hair with it on my wash day. My hair is sooo soft.

3. Yup! I’ve already signed up!

Do you Tweet? If so use hashtag #KCCMCastorOilChallenge or #KCCM so we all can follow the convo. Feel free to include me @BlakIzBeautyful

Keep encouraging eachother, you all are doing soo well! The grand prize for the challenge is a Huetiful Steamer! Winner will be announced on Friday June 8th!

    1. I probably won’t incorporate JBCO as a staple product. Once I run out that’s it lol.

    2. No. I stopped with the challenge early on because I got busy relocating and graduation as well. Just got a big girl job in Milledgeville, GA.

    3. Yes. I will join the summer challenge to get rid of the rest of my JBCO.

    1. Will Castor Oil become a staple in your hair regimen moving forward? If so, how do you plan to continue using it?  I will probably use it to alternate, still trying to get used to the consistency/thickness of the oil
    2. How did you do last week (week 11)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did good, I wore twists, did my scalp massages and used the oil to retwist at night
    3. Will you be joining the Summer Castor Oil Challenge? haven’t decided yet, ask me when I do my length check, lol

  • felisity1983

Castor Oil will definitely be a staple in my hair regimen. I love the consistency and the way it makes my hair feel. I will still be using it in my leave-in conditioner, to oil my scalp and edges, and seal my ends.

I did pretty well last week. I applied the CO to my scalp and edges everyday and also used my Kimmaytube leave-in basically everyday until it ran out to moisturize my hair.

The jury is still out on whether or not I’ll be joining the next CO challenge, but I think there’s a good possibility I will especially since I’ll be using the product anyway.

    • Kamilah Berry

Putting it in your leave in is a good idea.

    1. Will Castor Oil become a staple in your hair regimen moving forward? If so, how do you plan to continue using it?  Yes, it has good benefits for my hair.  I will continue to do scalp massages three times per week and using as a sealer for my ends.

    2. How did you do last week (week 11)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?  Still doing well with goals.

    3. Will you be joining the Summer Castor Oil Challenge?  I am considering joining the summer challenge since its helps give me accountability to be consistent.

  • Napiphany

    1. Will Castor Oil become a staple in your hair regimen moving forward? If so, how do you plan to continue using it? uh heck YES!!!! I intend to continue to use on hair and scalp, definitely to seal and in DC and prepoo. I have benefited greatly from using castor oil I love it and so does my hair!!!

    2. How did you do last week (week 11)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? Week 11 was good. I actually put hair in mini twists and oiled scalped and moisturized and oiled my twists.

    3. Will you be joining the Summer Castor Oil Challenge? #Affirmative

    • Napiphany

Does anyone know any good natural salon/stylist in the DMV area??? Or about any natural meetups in the area???

  • Kamilah Berry

I will continue to use teh castor oil.  I will go back to doing cayenne oil scalp treatments once a week.  I have tried the coconut, extra dark and lavendar…and like them all.

I did very well last week.  I might have missed just one day w/ the oil/monistat mix due to being out of town for my brithday.

I will not do the summer, but will pass on the info.  I need a break from my hair.  I think I will get braids anyway, b/c I will be job searching soon.  Plus, doing my own personal challenge is wearing on me.  I can’t believe it went by so quick, and I am sure my hair is better (and longer) for it.

  • Lora

     1. Yes, castor oil will continue to be a staple ingredient in my leave-in conditioner. I probably will still apply it to my scalp as well, just not daily.
    2. I have to admit that I did terribly on week 11 :-/ I’ve been super busy for the last few days, finishing high school and making big decisions (namely, to change my mind and be in Graduation or not lol).
    3. Will you be joining the Summer Castor Oil Challenge? Not sure! I’ll be looking for the dates on that. I just don’t know what the summer holds for me and I wouldn’t want to sign up and then bail out.

    • Tazzee

Congratulations! I remember my senior in high school and I went back and forth about prom and graduation. I ended up doing both.

    • Kamilah Berry

      Congrats w/ school

  • tyme725

    1. Will Castor Oil become a staple in your hair regimen moving forward? If so, how do you plan to continue using it? Yes it will-Pre-poo, Moisturizer/scalp massage, Seal ends

    2. How did you do last week (week 11)? Did you follow through with your goals? Yes i did!  Any challenges thus far? Noother than when hair was straightened

    3. Will you be joining the Summer Castor Oil Challenge?  yes and I need to sign up now!

  • http://www.facebook.com/SheDel92 SheRea DelSol

    1. Will Castor Oil become a staple in your hair regimen moving forward? If so, how do you plan to continue using it?

I also wish it wasn’t SOOOO expensive. However, I have been using  castor oil on my journey on and off and now, it will be glued to my regimen (lock and loaded)..My hair feels softer, smoother, and all around healthier… I will use it alternatively with my other oils such as Vatika Oil.

    2. How did you do last week (week 11)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

Can’t believe this challenge is almost over :( Last week I applied it 5 nights and 3 mornings I believe. For the summer challenge I am going to better document how many times I use it!

    3. Will you be joining the Summer Castor Oil Challenge?

    Not yet, I will soon!

    • Kamilah Berry

Have you tried getting your castor oil off of Amazon?  That may help w/ the price.

      • http://www.facebook.com/SheDel92 SheRea DelSol

No, I bought it from a beauty supply but I do intend to start getting them off of Amazon. Thanks for the tip!

  • moneeks

    1. I’ll keep using JBCO, but I’ll also return to the ever faithful coconut oil.
    2. Doing well on the challenge, at least 3x weekly as promised.
    3. I think one challenge got me in the habit of oiling regularly. Thanks!

  • Cristal Harris

    1. Will Castor Oil become a staple in your hair regimen moving forward? If so, how do you plan to continue using it?I think it will…I probably wont use it as frequently but i found that it makes my hairstronger, shinier, and imporved the overall health of ly hair.
    2. How did you do last week (week 11)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?I did ok…because im curly girl I find that applying to oil more than 2 times in one week leads to me having to rewash my hair every other day…and I like to strech and get atleast 2-3 days out of my hair styles now…but I find that the biggest challenge is that I do believe that people who use shampoo will have an easier time dealing with getting the castor oil out of thier hair…i do not use shampoo so…yeah
    3. Will you be joining the Summer Castor Oil Challenge?
    I think I just might!

  • Nakeamorris25

1.The castor oil will not be part of my regimen my hair did not like it my hair became dry and phelmy from using it I had the same prob with sheabutter.

2.I stopped the challenge a while back because of how my hair felt.

3.I will not be joining the summer challenge. But congrats to those who it has done well for and good luck with the up coming challenge.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1316919537 LaJuan Wilks

LOL I’m early checkin’ in this week!!
    1. JBCO really has become apart of my product line up. I started by adding it to my shea butter mix, so I always have it in my hair line up some sort of way. And then during the challenge I started using it at night for my face…close you’re poses first with cold water then apply. So yes, I will continue to use it.
    2. I did about like normal. My hair has been “bunned up” all week so I’ve been hitting those edges in lieu of the massage.
    3. I haven’t yet, but probably will participate again. I just really enjoyed the company, and kinda look forward to seeing what new people will participate the next go-round.

  • Tazzee

    1. Yes I’ll be using castor oil going forward. I twist my hair with a mixture of CO and Eco Styler gel. I’ve tried other products for my twists and this works best for me. I’ll also continue to use it on my edges and scalp. As Summer approaches and I try to perfect my WnG, I plan to experiment with some CO mixtures.

    2. This week was great! I met my goals and then some with daily scalp and edges application in addition to applying it directly on my hair for my twists.

    3. Yes, yes, yes – I’m joining the summer challenge. I can’t wait. I’m getting a trim right before the challenge and I’ll do better with taking my length check pics.

BTW, I tried CO on my brows and its working. They’re noticeably thicker… I think.

  • Tramelle Thomas

    1. The Home Health castor oil will not be a part of my regimen. I just started trying the JBCO last week and I like it so far. It’s not as viscous as the Home Health and the smell is a definite plus. I will continue to use this and MAYBE switch back and forth between the two oils every week so that my hair won’t get used to one oil. I will continue to use it on my scalp and edges. I think I’ve noticed a difference in my edges over the past week while using the JBCO. But I’ll have to wait til wash day and compare my pics from 3 weeks ago.

    2. I did great last week. I applied my new oil mixture (Coconut JBCO and sweet almond oil) to my scalp and edges every day, twice a day for my edges. I’ve had my hair in a protective style so I’ve been trying my best to get all the scalp I can.

    3. YES! I will definitely be joining the summer challenge. I want to gain the most length and thickness I possibly can before my wedding in October.

    • http://kinkycurlycoilyme.com/ Jenell : BlakIzBeautyful

Do you have your dress already??

      • Tramelle Thomas

YES!!! It’s a custom design that I created from Winnie Couture.

  • lahill73

Yes, castor oil will become a staple! I think I’ll use it as a pre poo during the summer & fall months & use it to seal n the winter months.
I did fine lady week. I used it as a pre poo & oiled my scalp every other day.
    Nope, no challenges ( :
No, I won’t b joining the summer challenge but good luck to all that does!

I believe that I joined the Summer Challenge…

  • Monique Bennefield

    1. Will Castor Oil become a staple in your hair regimen moving forward? If so, how do you plan to continue using it? Yes, definitely. 2. How did you do last week (week 11)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?I did great! I am so proud of myself. I colored my hair and I love it! I used castor oil in my honey& egg protein treatment. Every other night I massaged my scalp and sealed my ends.

  • Aprilmurphy2

    1. Yes I will continue to use the jbc, my hair loves it.

    2. I did very well last week.

    3. Yes I will continue with the challenge b/c it keeps me accountable and I love that my hair is growing the way I want it. It has been a long time since my hair was long due to me not knowing how to take care of it.

  • BronzeVenus

Did you mention that Castor Oil may cause itching? Lol

I know one can have a reaction at any point I time, but gracious!! Been using CO for two weeks…. scalp doesn’t itch, but mmy hands do and my legs (I rub the excess off).

I stopped putting the excess on and washed my hands extra good… No problems.

No hives, thankfully, just insane itching as if I were on . …. Well….

HOWEVER, the moisturizing effects on my hair can’t be beat. I’ll just be careful.

    • Kamilah Berry

Sorry to hear that, but I’m glad that it doesn’t bother you any longer.

  • @naturalsistagrl

    1.  I will definitely add it to my regimen.  It has helped my hair grow a lot and has also given me the thickness that I sought after.  I will continue to add it to my daily spritz and also use it to seal.

    2.  I did great last week following through with my goals of using daily in a spritz and sealing 3x’s week.

    3.  Probably will not participate in the summer challenge.

Definitely !! I want these edges to keep growin in..which by the way are doing great :)

  • NaturalleBlessed

Castor oil will definitely be a staple oil in my regimen. I just love how soft it makes my hair feel. I didn’t meet my hair goals this week. I was a bit under the weather and my hands and body did not have the energy. But I will go out with a bang and exceed my goals during the last week. This challenge will be permanent, so I guess I will be joining again for the summer!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Latisha-Osborne/12623467 Latisha Osborne

    1. Yes, yes, yes! This oil has contributed to much thicker hair and retained length. I will continue to use Castor Oil for pre-poos, hot oil treatments, scalp massages, and sealing. I plan to use castor oil in some manner least 3x a week.
    2.  Did GREAT last week.  My only challenge is deciding whether or not I will join the SUMMER CHALLENGE.
    3. Will you be joining the Summer Castor Oil Challenge? Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…..yes! lol … it’s gonna be fun =)

  • NatashaP

    1. I will most definitely keep using castor oil in my regemin. It’s the extra moisture retention “umph” my hair needed. It is now a permanent part of my oil mi

  • meka_r

    1. Will Castor Oil become a staple in your hair regimen moving forward? If so, how do you plan to continue using it? I am certainaly add CO to my regimen. I will use it weekly in a hot oil treatment and continue to add it to my DC treament with Shea Moisture Purification Masque. I love that stuff.

    2. How did you do last week (week 11)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?I only used CO once :-( . I was a busy week and I just didn’t have time. I know that’s a horrible excuse but it’s all I could come up with.

    3. Will you be joining the Summer Castor Oil Challenge? Undecided

  • Alexis Martin

Will Castor Oil become a staple in your hair regimen moving forward? If so, how do you plan to continue using it?
It will be an alternative not necessarily a staple moving forward I will continue to use it.
    2. How did you do last week (week 11)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did great last week sealed my ends at least three time with JCBO. I followed through with goals and had not challenges.
    3. Will you be joining the Summer Castor Oil Challenge?
I will join the summer challenge as well.

  • Yvonne

    1. Castor oil will be a staple. I didn’t realize just how much I use it with other oils and butters until this challenge.

2.I did pretty good still meeting my goals. No real challenges.

    3. I’m not quite sure. I will however continue to use my castor oil as I do now. It’s been fun!!

  • Ashley Scott

    1. I probably will, I really like it and I’ll use it in the same way I do now; pre-poo, on my scalp, and on my trouble spots: edges and nape. 2. Last week was ok. I was very busy, out of town and then I gradutated from college yeah. So I had my hair up in kinda a protective it was just twisted up so that I could fit it under my cap lol. So I was busy, but the protective style made it easy to oil. 3. I think I might…..not sure yet

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1198450446 Katherine Davis Polk

    1. Will Castor Oil become a staple in your hair regimen moving forward? If so, how do you plan to continue using it?

No. To be honest, I don’t like it all that much.  The smell plus the thickness is a bit much for me.  I should probably try one of the scented ones before passing final judgement though.

    2. How did you do last week (week 11)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

I did great.  I’m still using it at least 3 times a week mixed with other oils.  No challenges, but I haven’t noticed a difference in growth or thickness.  But on the plus side, I’m happy to say, there have been no ill effects either.

    3. Will you be joining the Summer Castor Oil Challenge?

I’m not sure yet.  I don’t like the Castor oil and that’s the whole point of the challenge, but I have almost a half a bottle left.  I like the interaction with other curli-friends and I know I won’t do a length check without being forced.  Decisions, decisions….
