BlakIzBeautyful is best known as Jenell Stewart, the founder and editor in chief of Kinky Curly Coily Me!

As a child, Jenell dreamed of attending law school and working her way through various political positions in order to become an attorney general. She realized that law and order was not her calling and that she had a passion for education. With her books in hand, Jenell graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelors of the Arts in Political Science and Philosophy, followed by a Masters in Special Education from Brooklyn College.

Jenell decided to embrace her natural hair, by way of the big chop, on March 26, 2010. Impulsive by nature, Jenell didn’t bother with transitioning but instead, immediately became fully natural. As she embraced her natural hair, Jenell found joy in blogging about her journey. She created KinkyCurlyCoilyMe! as a way to track her journey and share it with others. Within the first two years of blogging, Jenell transitioned her blog into a natural hair care website for women in need of hair education and support.

Jenell currently lives in Brooklyn, N.Y. with her son and husband. She dedicates most of her free time educating and uplifting women with kinky, curly, coily natural hair. She dreams of traveling around the world sharing her story and motivating women to embrace their natural beauty. First stop on her tour would be her native land, Liberia, Africa.
