5 Reasons to Wash Your Face at Night

Hey Naturalistas!

I recently had a thought.  With working such long days, sometimes I come home and I want to immediately hop in the bed and go to sleep, but wait…  I have to wash my face!  Now when you all are in that situation, what do you do?  Be honest!  You go to sleep, don’t you?  If you do, it may feel great to your body, but trust me, your skin will not be too happy.  Why?

5 Reasons to Wash your Face at Night

1.  Between touching your face throughout the day and being exposed to elements in the air, your face may be one of the dirtiest parts of your body by nightfall.  Washing your face will help prevent blemishes that could occur from dirt harbored in your skin.

2.  Do you have oily skin?  Washing your face at night can reduce oil on your face and help prevent blemishes from oil and dirt trapped in your pores.

3.  Your skin repairs itself at night.  Washing away makeup and dirt can allow your skin to breathe and repair itself naturally.

4.  Throughout the day, the moisturizer you use in the morning evaporates.  Cleansing and moisturizing your skin at night allows it to be hydrated.

5.  There are night moisturizers that aid in skin rejuvenation at night so your skin has the opportunity to improve while you are sleeping.

Taking care of your skin at night can produce faster cell turnover and really brighten the skin.  The great part about taking care of your skin at night is that oftentimes you can use the same skin routine both day and night.  For those with problem areas, there are moisturizers like Clinique’s Super Rescue Antioxidant Night Moisturizer or Timewise Night Restore & Recover Complex that can help awaken and rejuvenate skin while you sleep.

So, the big question is…

Will you wash your face at night?

For those of you that do wash your face at night, how has your skin benefitted?

Stay beautyful!

I’m guilty of just falling asleep at night with make up on and not washing my face. Call it being lazy, but this post opened my eyes, thanks for sharing this. This is my start to cleaner, healthier skin. Also feel free to drop by my blog @ http://www.carlanaomi.com

Thanks for taking the time to read the article Mzcarla!  I know what you mean about falling asleep with makeup on.  It happens to all of us, but just knowing the benefits of washing my face at night has helped me make that extra effort to get it done before I lay down.  One trick is to wash your face around 8 p.m. so you don’t fall asleep with it on.  Hope this helps!

Washing my face at night makes a HUGE difference in how my face looks and feels. It helps a lot with my acne and I feel better when my face is clean and I’m sleeping. The number 1 reason is totally right! When I’m washing my face as I should the acne comes back, but I’m learning my lesson. Great Article =)

Thank you so much for taking the time to read the post!  :-) Washing your face morning and night definitely has a huge impact on skin.  Have you ever had a facial?  I am getting my first one this weekend and I’m going to share my experience here on June 28.

Up until last year I NEVER washed my face at night. I was just too darn lazy. I didn’t wear make up all the time but even on days when I did, I didn’t wash it off. Needless to say my skin was a mess!

I finally got my act together after a friend of mine gave me some black soap, I started washing my face morning and night and my skin has flourished! My skin is clear and my oily skin has tamed down a bit.

I didnt know your skin repairs over night! Wow, learned something new.  Great post Ms. FabEllis!

Thanks Jenell!  I’m glad you are seeing a difference already.  Sometimes taking care of your skin is more simple than a lot of people realize so I’m just thankful I could share some insight here.  What do you use to moisturize your skin with after you use the black soap?  I have seen a lot of questions online about that lately.

I’m using the Aveeno positively radiant. I’ve been using that moisturizer for years.

    I use proactiv.

    • http://www.fabellis.com/ Miss FabEllis

Hey LaNeshe!  Thanks for checking out the article.  I have heard a lot of good things about Proactiv, particularly that it works extremely well if you follow the regimen to a T.  How does it work for you?

      • http://nesheaholic.com/ LaNeshe

It works great. My skin always looks great on it. I had stopped for a while, using some drug store cleansers. Then I switched to using shea moistures black soap, and my face just did not agree with it, so I switched back to Proactiv to get my skin back into shape.

        • http://www.fabellis.com/ Miss FabEllis

Glad to know it is working for you!  I wanted to ask a true user on how it works. :-)

wow this article has been an eye opener. Thanks for sharing

Thanks for this article! Although I do not wear makeup, touch my face throughout the day (I can’t, I am in surgery most of the day), or outside for long enough for the air to affect me, I will still try washing my face at night. Since turning 29, my face has been dry instead of oily the way it used to be. Maybe night washing will help. Do you have a recommendation for a good night time moisturizer?

  • Knittingarch

Hmm, I rarely wash my face anymore unless I wear makeup. I find that rubbing a warm towel over it in the AM and splashing it with water in the PM is just fine most days. I follow both with a few drops of the Proclaim 7 Oils. My skin looks great and is actually breaking out less. I decided to try this after having some skin issues related to hard water. Also my mom rarely washes her face, and her skin is fabulous. I think it just depends on the person.

I use to not wash my face at night unless I wore make-up during the day. I just started paying better attention to my skin like a year ago. Since I have oily skin that is acne prone, causing pimples and discolorations from me picking at them, washing my face at least twice a day is a MUST. As I’ve gotten older, I became more aware of the behavior of my skin. I make sure to keep my hands away from my face, wash my pillow cases often, maintain a healthy diet (lack of greasy/fried foods/caffeinated drinks) and drink more water than I’d like. Abiding by this lifestyle on top of using products that assist with blemish control/breakouts (Ambi Daily Foaming Facial Cleanser, Equate Apricot Scrub (2-3x’s/wk) and Equate Deep Cleansing Astringent, Ambi Daily Moisturizer) help me to keep soft, clear and even toned skin.

i always go straight to bed without washing my face, though i do have my nights where i randomly remember to wash it before bed. sometimes i am consistent with it and i do notice the difference in the appearance of my skin, especially since its so oily. and i touch my face A LOT throughout the day so i do need to step up my game with my night time treatments.
