I would not consider myself a rebel when it comes to my fashion choices, but the only rules that I follow are my own. If you are like me, you select your clothing using three factors: body type, trends, and personal style. Breaking the rules of fashion means just that—personal style.
Every time you wear an outfit that you like, you are displaying your “personal style”. Of course, we all find inspiration from the pages of fashion magazines and celebrities, but it should not completely dictate our style choices. Fashion is a form of self-expression and should be fun! You are unable to do this if you are a replica of someone else.
I broke the traditional rules of fashion recently, when I paired a biker jacket and a fringe necklace. Why, you may say? Well, I often hear fashion experts say how important it is for your outfit to have one main focus, and I am not against that theory. I just didn’t use that tip for this particular outfit. Many would say that the fringe necklace and the biker jacket are competing with each other, but I love the extra edge that the fringe and leather have when paired together. I like it, and that is really all that matters.
So break out of the bondage of fashion trends and style options that you don’t like, and simply wear whatever you want and are comfortable with! This is the key to developing personal style.
