My Husband Thinks I Know ALL Women with Natural Hair

By Bree of The Mane Source

It is me or does being natural these days mean that you’re apart of a cult or a secret society? Contrary to popular belief, there’s no directory exclusively distributed amongst natural women. We don’t have a secret handshake (that I know of). We do not have to sacrifice our first born to the natural hair “gods”. And we do not, I repeat, we do NOT all know each other. That seems to be the idea for some though. As quiet as it’s kept, I think I am certain my husband believes that all naturals know each other. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve been walking in a mall or driving in the car and we’d pass a woman with natural hair and he says to me, “Is that your friend?” or “Do you know her?” Every single time he asks me it catches me off guard and makes me laugh uncontrollably. I’m always like, “Sir, I’ve never seen that woman a day in my life.”, and for some reason he NEVER believes me.

woman-with-an-afro-1024x923One day while standing in a coffee shop we were having a candid conversation about women with natural hair and how we don’t all know each other. We both noticed a woman with a HUGE, gorgeous afro with her back to us ordering coffee at the counter. Like always he asks, “Do you know her?” I open my mouth to exclaim “NO!”, but before I could get it out the woman turned around and it was Patrice aka Afrobella. *face palm* I DID know the woman with the afro. She WAS my friend. At that moment my months of trying to debunk the myths about women with natural hair went down the drain.

What about you? Do your friends or significant others assume you know other women just because they have natural hair? Share your experience in the comment section below.

LOL love this my mate thinks I am apart of a curly hair gang, and yes, that we all know each other It is quite funny. The truth is that most naturals I see don’t even look at you to busy minding their own business lol. Men are funny like that.

LOL.. Tell him it is as insulting as some white people thinking all blacks know and can speak for all other black people–same ignorance. My husband does not think I know other natural haired women, nor does he think I know all blacks.

I obviously don’t know all natural women, but when I see them walking down the street and our eyes meet, we smile at each other. It’s really nice to have an instant connection with someone that understands natural hair ’cause they have it on their head! Just a thought :)
