A green smoothie is a blended drink made of juice or water, and varying green vegetables and/or fruits. It’s a great way to get nutrients in raw form and to pool different fruits and vegetables in one place. Additionally, it is a great alternative to salads, for people on the go, and can be made sweet or savory to taste.
I’ve tried green smoothies on and off over the years. At first I was terrible at it; my ingredients were off. I think the issue was that I was trying to pack too many ingredients in thinking I would get the most nutrients that way. While that may be true, I was ending up with a thick, slushy, weird tasting mess and got no nutrients because I couldn’t stand the taste, wasting perfectly good vegetables. The term less is more proved itself, so Ladies don’t make the same mistake I made.
Not All Veggies Are Created Equal
Now while it’s great to try and get nutrients in raw form we must also remember that not everything digests well when eaten raw. Some vegetables have to be cooked because the heat breaks downthe fibers for better digestion. Sometimes it’s also a case where the heat stimulates the production of certain nutrients.
Green Smoothies for Hair Growth
Green Smoothies are great for getting a leg up on your health; any good thing added to the body benefits the hair in some way. After researching, I noticed many women seeing benefits like faster hair growth, less hair shedding, glowing skin, and overall health improvements like more energy. I myself notice after a little over a week of drinking one green smoothie a day that my skin does start to glow. Other things I’ve noticed are keener sense of smell (eg. with meat), decreased sugar cravings, and boundless energy.
Making a Sweet Green!
Some great green smoothie ingredients include apples, blueberries, strawberries, banana, avocado, chlorophyll, chlorella, celery, kale, mustard greens, kiwi, oranges/lemon juice, MSM, maybe even some liquid acidophilus for improved digestion. Aloe vera is also said to be nature’s digestive aid. Mypersonal base juice is lemon, water, and honey. Apple juice is also a greatbase but I like something more basic and unprocessed. I’ve tried lots ofdifferent recipes. Below is a sweet one I made up myself as well as a savory recipe from Rawfoodtalk.com which I haven’t tried yet.
