Get Healthy Challenge – Week 5 Check In

By Jenell — October 08, 2012

It’s week 1 of Month 2!!!

If you are just starting with us this month-Welcome! We wish you blessings as you commit to getting healthy this month.

If you started with us during month 1-Welcome Back!  We wish you blessings as you commit to getting healthy this month.

If this is your first time ever hearring about the Get Healthy Challenge and you would like to participate, Be sure to register and then come back and check in.

Month 2 may be challenging as the weather cools down and that will to move begins to slow down. I personally have a hard time moving during the cooler months. So this will be a test of my will as well.

For the newbies, Week 1 is the easiest week because we are very motivated and pumped. I want us to keep up the momentum throughout this entire month. Your daily affirmations are crucial, because when you think you can’t — YOU CAN!

We are going to have a blast and I am so looking forward to reading all of your check in entries. Be sure to encourage each other by commenting on each others comments.

Check In Questions

1. JUICE  - Which veggies do you add to your green juice/smoothie? How many days did you juice last week (week 4)? Share one of your favorite recipes from last week so we can all try it out.

2. MOVE -How do you find motivation to exercise when you just don’t feel like getting off your butt?

3. AFFIRM – How do you remove stress from your life? Not sure, check out this article for ideas.

In addition to the check in questions, you can com here and check in as often as you want. Feel free to share anything on your mind. Something you are excited to share. Suggestions: Something new you tried. The  calories you burned in the gym. The miles you ran/walked. The cheeseburger/pizza/fried chicken/cake you turned down. The pant size you dropped to. -Veggies – spinach or kale. 4 times. I am NOT a morning person so I haven’t been creative. My staple ingredients are spinach or kale, peach, pineapple, strawberry, banana, Vega, flax seeds, milk or yogurt and cinnamon
-Motivation – hhmmmm..once I get started I feel good about exercizing, good physically, I sleep better, my digestion is better & my body is more & more toned. Getting my 4 workouts in early in the week mean I can enjoy my off days, likewise, getting my workout in earlier in the day means I can enjoy my evening. I feel guilty when I don’t do what I know I need to do to care for my temple. I want to live long and healthy so I know I need to take care of it.
-Stress – That’s a tough one. I pray constantly. Life is bigger than me so it’s not all up to me so I trust God. Some of the affirmations that I have posted on my laptop desktop & in my office are:
“Good morning. This is God. I will be handling all of your problems today. I don’t know your help. I don’t need your interference so relax and have a nice day.”
“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the strength to change the things that I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
“The will of God will never take you where the grace of God won’t protect you.”

I love your affirmations! Kudos to you on this journey! God bless!

Me too! That first one is really awesome!

        • Lovey

That’s also my fav. Everyone morning when I sit at my desk and look up and see that affirmation, I smile…and then do what I can and let God take care of the rest.

      • Lovey

I hope you are blessed by them. Kudos to you as well :) .

    • yardie_chick

I like the serenity prayer. I have a tendency to jump in and “fix” situations that only God can truly fix or change. I can only do my best and leave the rest up to my heavenly father. Thank you for sharing.

    1. JUICE -
Which veggies do you add to your green juice/smoothie? How many days did
you juice last week (week 4)? Share one of your favorite recipes from last week
so we can all try it out. I add
carrots, broccoli, spinach, kale, celery, and cilantro so far. My main veggies
are spinach and kale. Last week I think my allergies were trying
to get me! But I had that last for about a day and a half. I was drinking
Emergen-C, had my Vicks, fixed throat concoctions, ate hot peppery soups, I had
it going on lol! I managed to workout 3 days last week and juiced 4 days last
week. Roughly low for me, but still glad I did something! I don’t want to quit!

    Here’s
a recipe, a spin on an oldie but goodie!

Recipe: Strawberries, Banana(s), Almondmilk (over what milk you
prefer), and honey (about a tblspoon), frozen yogurt or regular yogurt in the
fridge (optional), add something green and neutral tasting (like spinach). I
put more strawberries than spinach so I can still get that great banana/strawberry
taste. It should be pinker than greener, but if you are trying to up the green
intake then go for it. If not, omit it. It’s still healthy either way and so
    yummy!

    2. MOVE -How
do you find motivation to exercise when you just don’t feel like getting off
your butt? I remember the way I felt before I started to incorporate healthy
living back into my life. I don’t want to go back! I have to remind myself
daily why I choose to exercise, and eat better. You can’t go forward without
doing anything to motivate you daily. That’s why I appreciate things like the
affirmations posted in the pic or the ones I read during the Get Healthy Challenge,
and those I say to myself daily. I can do the impossible. We all can!

    3. AFFIRM –
How do you remove stress from your life? Well, we are all doing this activity
which is exercise! Yay! It really does clear my head when I go for a walk or
just keeping my body busy doing something positive for my overall well-being. I
write, or record poetry or songs that pop in my head! I’ve started to get into
painting. Slowly but surely I’m sitting at my easel more often. Also, my number
one stress-reliever is prayer. If I am just talking to God and crying my eyes
out or whatever I almost always feel great and lighter after I finish praying.
It’s like I just know all my worries and concerns are truly taken care of.

Someone help me please! I didn’t mean to post this 3 times lol! I wanted to edit it, but I didn’t see anything for it, so I reposted it, thinking the other one was gone.

1st Q. JUICE – Which veggies do you add to your green juice/smoothie? How many days did you juice last week (week 4)? Share one of your favorite recipes from last week so we can all try it out.
The veggies I use are: kale, collard greens, ginger (not really a veg but whatev!), carrots, celery, and broccoli. My fave recipe from last week was: kale, collards, strawberries, carrot, ginger, cinnamon, cilantro, flax seeds, splash of pineapple juice and water. YUM!!!!
2nd Q. MOVE -How do you find motivation to exercise when you just don’t feel like getting off your butt? I look at the clothes I USE TO fit into, and then I look at my empty wallet that can’t afford to regurgitate any dinero. Broke pockets + tight clothes = move it to lose it! (forgive my crazy logic)
3rd Q. AFFIRM – How do you remove stress from your life? Not sure, check out this article for ideas.
YOGA and PILATES!!! Stress is a part of life, but the two fore mentioned exercises help to minimize the affects of stress on the body.

    • yardie_chick

I love your logic!!! I hate that my outfits are tight and I know my pockets cant afford a new wardrobe!!! I totally relate to you!!! Do you use ground flaxseed or do you throw them in whole? Also how much cinnamon do you use? Does it flavor the smoothie or blend right in?

      • http://twitter.com/Afro_Geisha Danielle

I am a cinnamon lover, so I would guess I use about 1/2 tsp (sorry I have to guess, but I just shake until I think it looks right). It blends right in and marries with the ginger and carrots. As for the flaxseed, I use them whole, but my Ninja chops them up pretty decently. But I still chew them a little to break them up for easier digestion.

Honestly I lost my focus last week. I ran out of protein, veggies and fruit and didnt juice at all and it took me the entire week to get to the store! Pure laziness.

The good news is a did do HIIT training for 4 days last week. It was only 15mn per day but thats all I had. It was Hi intensity so I did burn some calories.
How do I plan to recover from my not so Healthy week? Not focusing on what I did not do and focusing on the fact that everyday is a new day and I get to try it all over again.
    Happy Smoothing Ladies!

sn: I got my Vega One in on Saturday and some veggies. I am ready to Try it again!!!!

At least you are not giving up! The hard part is moving forward. Keep pushing on! :)

A rough day, two days or even week happens! You’re going back to it so that’s what matters.

i feel you but its great that you picked right back up and pressing forward! Good for you

Hello Ladies! Welcome to the new ladies! I hope your journey will be one of fulfillment and healthy living.
    1. I add spinach, kale, cucumber and avocado’s(this one may be a fruit) I am hoping to incorporate some collards or turnip greens this month. I juiced 4 days last week. Placing my veggies and fruits in the blender before bed really helps me because when I wake I can just take the blender out the refridgerator and blend while I get dressed. My fav blend is spinach, kale, 1/2 cucumber, frozen strawberries, handful of grapes, 1/4 of an avocado, pineapple juice and a banana. The avocado gives the smoothie a rich smooth texture,YUM!
    2. My motivation right now is joining the military. I need to loose weight and truly learn how to maintain a healthy lifestyle of working out and eating right. It is so easy to know what needs to be done to secure myself and my family but now I have to put that knowing into action!
    3. Stress = Eating for me. I am learning to let go and let God. Once I recognize what is causing me to stress I drop it like Hot bread. If I cannot change it I hand it over to a man that I know can and trust him to give me the will to keep moving forward until my change comes.

    • http://www.facebook.com/helen.henton.58 Helen Henton

you can do it. If you really want to join the military then you are on the right track! Good luck to you
