I am looking forward to reading all of your check in entries. Be sure to encourage each other by commenting on each others comments.

    1) I juiced three times but there were leftovers for two additional days (if that makes sense). I’m working on making smaller portions.
Recipe: Ginger Cocktail (measurements are approximate)
    Spinach- one handful
    Mini Carrots- one handful
    Banana- I/2
    Apple- 1/4 large Fuji
    Pineapple- 1/2C
    Almond milk- 4oz.
    Water- 6oz.
Ginger root- 3/4″ (The star of the show)
    Yields 24oz
*If veggies/fruit aren’t frozen, reduce water and add ice.

    2) I met my movement goals last week. My workout is primarily a Zumba class so it was challenging to workout at home ALONE.
    3) I accept compliments mostly. Years ago, my husband pointed out to me how I responded to compliments so I’ve practiced receiving with a thank you and a smile.

Kudos on taking what hubby said and doing better! We should all strive to make a change in ourselves when it comes to accepting things such as good as compliments and knowing we deserve all the good that God wants us to receive!

-# of times I juiced last week – 4. Fav recipe – spinach, strawberries, peaches, pineapple, mango, banana, cinnamon, flax seeds & milk
-# of times I moved last week – 3. The most challenging part is putting on my tennis shoes. -Once I get started, I feel great and am proud of myself…especially when my muscles hurt so good the next day.
Affirmation – I accept compliments. It’s nice to know that others notice I did/have been doing something right :) .

    • http://www.facebook.com/theresa.martinjackson Theresa Purple Martin-Jackson

I had the same issue – getting off the couch and putting those shoes on!

    1. I juiced three times last week. The yummiest one I’ve made yet was actually today, so I don’t know if it counts, but it was 1 peach, 1 honeycrisp apple, 5 strawberries, 1/4 cup of blueberries, bunch of spinach, 1/4 cup of lowfat milk. I can’t stand bananas and they overpower every smoothie I make, so I had to leave them out, lol. 2. Sadly, I only exercised twice last week. I got busy and didn’t go to the gym on Friday as planned. The goal is to do better this week. 3. Yes, compliments make me uncomfortable, BUT, I’m working on just smiling and saying “Thank You,” whether I agree with people’s assessment of my appearance or not.

    • http://kinkycurlycoilyme.com/ Jenell : BlakIzBeautyful

      Delicious recipe!

All the people that pay you a compliment – can not be wrong!!!

    1. I juiced 4 times last week. The best one was a cup of skim milk, half cup of mangoes, 2 stalks of kale, 2 cups of spinach and 1tbs of chia seed (for extra fiber). 2. I was sick most of last week and wasn’t able to make it to the gym. I am making up for that this week. 3. I used to have trouble with compliments when I was younger but since gaining more confidence as an adult, I have genuinely been able to accept them.

    • http://www.facebook.com/theresa.martinjackson Theresa Purple Martin-Jackson

Where do you buy chia seeds? I need to try those.
      Hope you are feeling better:)

  • Positive change

    1tbsp ginger root
    1/2c spinach
    1/2 distilled water
    1/2c orangic almond milk unsweetened
    1 scoop VegaOne (chocolate)
    3. Yes, I met my movement last week. I really enjoyed kickboxing and cycling.
    4. when I recieve compliments I always say thank you, because if you don’t see progress others will.

I like your handle “Postive Change”. We all need positve change. I am enjoying this challenge as well. Keep up the great work.

  • http://kinkycurlycoilyme.com/ Jenell : BlakIzBeautyful

    1) I juiced 7 days last week for breakfast. One of my favorite recipes from last week was 1/2 green apple, 1C green grapes, 1 large handful of spinach, 1 scoop VEGA*, 1Tbsp Ground Flaxseed,1/2C coconut milk, 1C water. So yummy! Love the new addition of coconut milk to my smoothies.

    2) I exceeded my goal!!! I worked out 4 days a week instead of 3. And my week was insane on top of that! The hardest part of my workout was when I worked out with the trainer. He offered me and my workout partner a free session and he beat us up!

    3) I love compliments! What a confidence boost and so assuring that I’m doing something I should be doing.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Shakira-Nicole/659012123 Shakira Nicole

    1. JUICE – I juice 4 times last week. I used the same recipe the entire week:
    5 cup romaine lettuce, 6 cup spinach,1 apple, 1 pear,1 banana,1 lemon, 3 stalks of celery it made a batch of 64oz and I had 1 serving a day.
    2. MOVE – Yes I Moved 5 days last week. The most challenging part was just getting started each day. Some days I just didnt feel like it and had to push myself to start. Once started I was alright.
    3. AFFIRM – I am learning to accept compliments. So often when given a compliment we tend to reply with statements like “Oh, I need to lose such such” or etc. However, in order to acheive our goals we must recognize what we have already accompished.
I am a giving person, so to focusing on receiving is a major for me however, I must recognize the joy someone else gets from giving as well.

    1. JUICE- last week I juiced 3 times for breakfast. My favorite juice consisted of peaches, pineapples, mangoes , strawberries, spinach and water. It was very tasty.
    2. MOVE- I was unable to go to the gym on Thursday evening after work BUT I woke up @ 6:30am on SATURDAY and walked myself down the hill to the gym. I did 45 minutes on the treadmill and burned 330 calories. It felt sooooooooo good to be back in the gym!!!! The most challenging thing for me is just getting up and going. Once I’m there it’s on!!!
    3. AFFIRM I definitely accept compliments. Some say I’m a “ham” and I love attention (lol)…part of that is true but there is a part of me that sometimes finds it hard to believe people when a compliment is given. I definitely do not always see myself the way others do (even if I do put up a front & they think I do lol)

  • Rashidah

JUICE – last week I juiced 3 times for breakfast only. My best and favoriet receipe includes blending spinach, strawberries, a banana and a cup of pineapples with 1/2 cup of water. I did try to add 1/2 cup of almond milk instead of water one day last week and that was a fail. I didn’t not like the taste or consistency but that’s just my opinion. LOL!
    2. MOVE – I was able to go to the gym twice last week. My goal is 3/week however during the other days I did do squats, sit ups and pushups just to have so form of movement. The most challenging for me is trying to wake up in the morning to exercise which I would like to do. I’m aiming to lose weight so I would like to workout at least twice a day. So far that is a fail also.
    3. AFFIRM – Reflect on this statement, I reject compliments. I’m not a person who understands compliments quite well because I don’t like to be the center of attention at any time. I feel like I’m always perfecting myself so when someone gives me a compliment I find myself always saying something like Thanks, but I’m…. I really need to work on receiving compliments and just leaving it at thank you with a smile.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Shakira-Nicole/659012123 Shakira Nicole

I was thinking of adding almond milk to my mixture but after reading this I think I’ll just stick with my water lol

  • yardie_chick

Hello Ladies. I juiced 4 times last week; 8 ounces at breakfast and 16 onces for lunch into dinner. My fav recipe of the week was 2 cups kale, 2 cups spinach, 1/2 avocado, 1/2 cucumber, 1 cup strawberries, handful of grapes and 1/2 cup dole pineapple juice. I am hoping to incorporate some ground flaxseed this week! The most challenging part of my workout routine is finding the time and the will power to get up and move. I work 16 hrs each day on an evening an overnight shift so it is difficult to cut my daytime sleep :-( I have been walking and dong the stairs at work, hopefully I get into the gym this week. This weeks Affirmation highlights so much of the barriers that I build up. It is hard to accept help. I love to give it but accepting it pulls so much out of me. I will try and allow others to help me because I do not want to block their blessings! God bless you ladies in your journey through this life!

  • NatashaP

    1. I have had green smoothies for breakfast everyday last week.
    2. I only did an official workout once last week, but I was much more active overall. My goal this week is to get at least 90 mins of exercise in.
    3. I’m going to work on truly enjoying compliments at their face value.

  • yardie_chick

I have a few questions? Has anyone noticed any extra visits to the throne since starting the green smoothie challenge? Am I the only one pooping more often?! lol Also what is Vega? How has incorporating it in your smoothies helped? Does it alter the taste of the smoothies? Finally, does anyone work the 3rd/overnight shift? How and when do you find time to get your exercise in? I work between 4pm and 6:30am 5-6 days per week and when I get home at 7am all I want to do is shower and curl up in bed. I know I need to and have to do better so any advice will help.

    • Tanya

      Hi Yardie,
I have become super regular since I started doing the juicing. It’s due to all the extra fiber and roughage. Vega is a plant based protein supplement. I don’t use it, but I use another type of protein.

    • http://www.facebook.com/anthonia.anyanwu.9 Anthonia Anyanwu

I say it sounds like you are busy busy busy and I salute you for doing that ! I tried the night shift at my past job and it just wasn’t for me, the work was quick but my sleep and days were off.

I just want to comment on the fitting in exercise since it seems hard. I want to say use what you have. If you are going to shop park far so you can take a good walk to the entrance, if you take time out to watch tv put down the remote and take that time to workout to a good video (especially if you have the floor to do it, exercises on regular carpet can do a number on your knees, but if it is like the carpet in gyms (really low) that’s great, or exercise around the neighborhood (if the weather permits and it is not too dark or too early when it’s seems not a sound is heard in the area).

if you have a backyard (this just came to me) run up and down it, do lunges back there. Getting a jump rope is also good to incorporate some cardio, and fit it in. You can do it girl! You’ve come this far haven’t you? I hope to hear more about your journey and hope I helped! Have a wonderful day.

    • http://www.facebook.com/theresa.martinjackson Theresa Purple Martin-Jackson

      Yardie,
More trips to throne is a good thing. It means your body is functioning as it should and the Green Smoothies are doing what it is suppose to do! Yeeeahhhhh…

I have been consipated however, I have at least double my fiber intake and sometimes that happen till your body adjusts…. I took a senna laxative to help. (I just thought that may have been tmi…lol)
When I worked overnight, I wasnt really doing anything so I took my workout videos to work and workout from my desk….. Otherwise I would say come home and go to sleep but get up earlier to workout.

what is vega? and where can this be purchased at. if vega is unable to find can there be a substitute?

myvega.com is the website for vega.

….I suggest you do some research….I ordered from myvega.com and the shipping cost was 9.95 and it took 10 days to get to me…….go to your local health food store to see if they sell it as well….

  • http://www.facebook.com/anthonia.anyanwu.9 Anthonia Anyanwu

    1. I juiced everyday last week. In the morning for breakfast I do it for myself, and my family, but especially at night because I make my sister’s smoothies nightly so she can grab it out the fridge and go to work. I feel better because now when I want something sweet and don’t want to go the unhealthier route, I just make up a smoothie. It is quick and easy. Sometimes, I crave them more than anything now.

I love this recipe I made:
    handful of spinach
    two stems of kale
    strawberries
    grapes
a little bit of apple juice
a little bit of lemon juice
    ice=TASTY AWESOMENESS! LOL

    2. I moved 6 days out of the week. I wish to extend that 30 min (outside walking), but sometimes it gets late, and I don’t wanna walk in the neighborhood when it’s dark, even if my sis is with me. We then go in the house and do a video, or get on the bike. Most challenging thing is when I start jogging. Power walking is a breeze, easy, and effective.

    3. I accept compliments with a thank you. I try to give compliments to be it on hair, personality, appearance (males too especially when they are fine!), lol we all have to learn to stop hating and congratulating each other! Affirmation this week is KEEP PUSHING! :)

  • Tanya

I juiced 6 days last week.
I went to the gym 5 days last week. The hardest part of working out is not getting bored. Its important for me to include DVDs, working out outdoors, etc. in addition to working out at the gym.
I am getting much better at accepting compliments. Instead of making me uncomfortable, it makes me feel good.

  • Tennisshoes

    1. I made smoothies Monday – Thursday and again on Saturday. I enjoyed Saturday’s the most…a simple spinach, banana, strawberry yogurt, coconut water and lactaid milk.
    2. I met my movement goal last week. The hardest part is GETTING STARTED. Once I’m there…I’m THERE. Hubby and I did a lot of walking on Sunday. I enjoyed that the most. My accountability post: I’ll get at least 30 mins of cardio in this evening. Either via Wii activities or Turbo.
    3. I’m learning to accept compliments. I’m sure I can still get better at it!
    Have a great week everyone!

    • Tennisshoes

Ok…Auntie duties didn’t allow me Wii time. Just getting home almost 10 pm and having to get up at 3;30 tomorrow morning knocks out everything. T-I-R-E-D. I’m working from home on Friday so hopefully I can get an hour of SOMETHING in for movement. Goodnight all.

I did water aerobics on my lunch hour. The instructor was really intense – she kicked my butt! It was like doing Insanity but in the water!!!!!

    1. JUICE – I juiced everyday last week, which wasn’t a happy outcome for my body, going lighter this week.
I had 1/3 cup of skim milk, or coconut milk
    5 strawberries
    1 banana
a couple of slices of pineapple
    1/2 a plum
    1/2 a nectaurine
    a large handful of spinach
a couple of pieces of broccoli
    and a cup of water
    Delish!!!
    2. MOVE – I have such a hectic schudule, with school, and work, and two kids, im always doing something. and with my school being up a very steep hill I make sure to park furthest away so I get atleast a 10 min walk 2x a day and running around with the kids, I get as active as can be. next month should be alot better.
    3. AFFIRM – Since becoming natural I have been allot better about it. before I would say “thanks but . . . ” and find some way to make it a negative. No longer negative.

  • yardie_chick

Hi Ladies, Just a mid week stop in to say thank you to all the responses and encouragement! Keep your heads up. This is a journey, we are all working towards the same goal, to be fit and healthy!

  • http://www.facebook.com/Kira0313 Shakira O’Garro

    1. JUICE – How many days did you juice last week (week 1)? Share one of your favorite recipes from last week so we can all try it out.
None, I just got my juicer and purchased ingredients for my “juice high weekend.” Since I brought so much I might juice an extra day or two next week. When I do the juices I’ll share the recipe and the details of the high juice weekend. But my fav juice recipe is pineapple, apples (either pink lady or green gala apples), and carrots. It’s sweet and very mild!

    2. MOVE – Did you meet your movement goals last week (week 1)? What part of your workout routine is the most challenging?
I started going to the gym every morning this Wednesday. But last week I started taking the stairs and drinking mroe water. At first I thought everything was cake but this afternoon when I returned from shopping my legs started hurting something serious. No pain no gain right? Lol

    3. AFFIRM – Reflect on this statement, Do you accept compliments or reject them?

“Today I will let someone give to me. Whether it’s a
compliment, an offer to help, or even a gift. I will stand there and
take it joyfully. I know that I’m deserving of good things, so I will
simply say THANK YOU.” By Melody Beattie
I accept compliments but I tend to moderate them. Like someone would say, “I love your hair,” then I would be like, “thank you, I don’t like it that much today” or thanks but I love your hair even more.” It’s hard for me to receive things. It almost makes me feel anxious. I’m working on it though!

  • http://www.facebook.com/JenJenThaDon Jennifer Moss

I LOVE drinking some good ol’ kiwi and strawberry! Ooooh, and some good pineapple juice. Personally, I prefer to have straight juices, with a max of 3 different ingredients, as I find my taste buds tend to get a little overwhelmed when I’ve exceeded that number.
To be honest, I find my whole routine quite challenging, because I focus on a different part of my body everyday. For example, Monday is my arms and pecks day. Tuesday is my legs day. Wednesday is my yoga day. Thursday is my cardio day, and Friday is my abdomen day. Right now, I’m still hurting from my work out this morning, so I know I did well!
Lastly, I tend to accept compliments more often than I reject them, simply because I LOVE giving them out. Also, I like to think about the “Don’t look the gift horse in the mouth” saying, no matter how awkward or inappropriate the comment is. Even if I’m walking in the mall and a bunch of guys start cat-calling and saying things like “Nice ass”, I smile, say thank you and move on my way.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Kira0313 Shakira O’Garro

Hello people! I decided against the juice high weekend since it makes you sick for 2-3 days. As a grad student I can’t afford to be down for that long. So today I juiced 2 honey crisps apples (they’re huge, crisp, and sweet, one of my fav types of apples), 4 large carrots, and 1 orange. The carrots over powered the juice but it was very pleasant and mild.

    1. JUICE – How many days did you juice last week (week 1)? Share one of your favorite recipes from last week so we can all try it out.
I make my smoothies six out of seven days a week cause I leave Sunday for a traditional breakfast. My fav recipe is Kefir raspberry yogurt, spinach, kiwi, mango, ground flax and Vega One. Simply delish; I look forward to making my smoothies each morning and I’m starting to want them at night in place of a standard meal.
    2. MOVE – Did you meet your movement goals last week (week 1)? What part of your workout routine is the most challenging? I was sick earlier in the week so I didn’t workout as much but I did two great classes and I will workout tomorrow.

    3. AFFIRM – Reflect on this statement, Do you accept compliments or reject them?“Today I will let someone give to me. Whether it’s a compliment, an offer to help, or even a gift. I will stand there and take it joyfully. I know that I’m deserving of good things, so I will simply say THANK YOU.” By Melody Beattie
I usually accept compliments because I leaned a long time ago that was something I had to work on as a women. I just say thank you graciously.

JUICE – How many days did you juice last week (week 1)? Share one of your favorite recipes from last week so we can all try it out. 3 days last week. It was a basic spinach and frozen berries mix. I always use 2% milk.
    2. MOVE – Did you meet your movement goals last week (week 1)? What part of your workout routine is the most challenging?
Yep, I ran 4 days last week. I don’t think my workouts are too challenging. Trying to fit in strength training before work has been challenging.
    3. AFFIRM – Reflect on this statement, Do you accept compliments or reject them?
I accept them. I love a good compliment.

  • http://twitter.com/Afro_Geisha Danielle

    1. JUICE – How many days did you juice last week (week 1)? Share one of your favorite recipes from last week so we can all try it out.
everyday. kale, banana, parsley, pineapple, apple, cinnamon, and coconut water
    2. MOVE – Did you meet your movement goals last week (week 1)? What part of your workout routine is the most challenging?
Yes. Nothing challenging, now that I am motivated
    3. AFFIRM – Reflect on this statement, Do you accept compliments or reject them?
    I’m learning to accept them.
