Get Healthy Challenge – Week 1 Check In

I can’t believe how many of you have committed to Getting Healthy this month!

Week 1 is the easiest week because we are very motivated and pumped. I want us to keep up the momentum throughout this entire month. Your daily affirmations are crucial, because when you think you can’t — YOU CAN!

We are going to have a blast and I am so looking forward to reading all of your check in entries. Be sure to encourage each other by commenting on each others comments.

    1. My smoothies will be fruit dominant. The main ingredients will be banana, strawberries, and spinach
    2. I listen to music while I workout. It’s usually on Pandora. I haven’t found an upbeat channel I love yet.

    Juice: Glowing Green Smoothie: 5cup romaine, 6cup spinach, 3celery stalks, 1 apple, 1pear, 1banana. Makes about 32oz that I use a couple days and add whey protein, flaxseeds and sometimes greek yogurt ea smooothie.

    Move: Water aerobics for 1 hour and then strength training for about 30mn. Today I am doing chest and back.

    Affirmation: I can’t get the butt(body) I want by sitting on it! I gotta get moving…..

      Juice: I had two green smooties today. For breakfast: I had the Glowing Green from above minus the yogurt because I was out.
      Lunch: Ingrediants: frozen strawberries, half a lemon, handful of spinach, 1/2 cup of coconut water, 1 tsp of matcha green tea powder and Body by Vi protein powder

      Move: Today I am doing upper body

      I can’t get the butt(body) by sitting on it ……. I am going to have to get up off it and move it!!!!!

      My green smoothie today was:1 cup of almond milk, 1 cup of frozen strawberries, 1 cup of spinach, 1 scoop of Visaulis protein, 2 tablespoon of nesquick. (Had this after hiking so it was for muscle recovery with a 4 to 1 carb to protein ratio)
      *may have a glowing green later.
      Hiked for 30min during lunch:
      30:01mn 1.44mi 241cal 3.0m/h average.(from CardioTrainer*1hour Water Aerobics class this evening for fun!!!!
      Affirmation:
      I workout because can. When I get tired, or I am short of time, or I want to quit…I think about how lucky I am to be healthy enough to workout daily. I am grateful for my health and my ability to become stronger. I do not take it for granted….

      I just realized as I went to log that I didnt have a green smoothie today. I had a smoothie but not green. Ok gotta do better.
      Move:
      P90X Shoulders & Arms: 30mn
      (Confession: Tony Horton talks too much so I just used the worksheets and completed the program with out the DVD at my own pace.)
      Water Aerobics: 80min
      Affirmation:
      What other people think about me – how I look, how I dress, how I wear my hair natural etc…. – is none of my business!!!!!!

    1. My smoothie will be fruit dominant. Today’s ingredients are pineapple, ginger, strawberry and spinach.
    2. My daughter is learning to rollerblade. She is 12 years old and she has committed to the challenge as well. Today while she roller blades I will be speed walking. I will do my usual 3 miles. Today no music but later this week I will hit the gym. I listen to pandora, gospel, neosoul, reggae or hip hop.
    3. I believe I need to let god have his way with me and all he has in store for me.
    Day 1 here I come!

    My smoothies will be fruit dominant because I already eat a ton of veggies and salads…. I need more fruits….. I will stay away from strawberries…. Anything full of seeds, that turns me off
    It doesn’t matter to me…. But I really like late ’80′s-90′s house music or the tv
    My motivation is still my Brother who died due to complications of diabetes the we didn’t know he had untill he fell into a diabetic coma ….. I would like to lose 50 pounds by Christmas as well

    Hi, I am late for this challenge but I just registered. I have been busy this week getting ready to go back to work and getting my kids ready for school.

I have the Hip Hop Abs, Rockin Body, and Turbo Jams. The music on these dvds are great. My favorite tunes are old school rap, R &B, and reggie.3.     My smoothies will be vegetable dominant with lots of spinach, kale, cucumbers and some fruit mixed in. I have a workout playlist that I created…lots of Beyonce, lol. I know that if I continue to put God first and follow his path that my I will not miss out on any of the blessings he has for me!

        yes Kale has a bitter taste. it’s not too bad though. But i balance it out with a lot of fruit and ginger, and also u can use half kale half spinach so that it’s not too bad. 9 i know this question is not for me but i thought i’d help out)

    1. Today’s smoothie was spinach, banana and strawberry. LOVED it.
    2. My movement will be combination of my Wii workouts (Gold’s Gym Dance, Zumba, Wii Fit, Just Dance), Turbo Jam, and good ole walking (I enjoy walking across the BK bridge and the Williamsburg bridge).
    3. Taking this challenge will be an enjoyable adventure. This post, as wellas speaking to my best friend and my husband about my participation are holding me accountable. I’m ready!

    My smoothie to day will be fruit dominant. Oranges, apples, Banans, kale, ginger.
    I will be listening to gospel music today, but each day I implement different music.
    I believe the best is yet to come. I will wait on the Lord, because I know he is worthy.

    Smoothies – Mine are fruit dominant (peaches, mango, pineapple, strawberries, banana and spinach or kale + VEGA, ground flax seeds, olive oil, cinnamon and milk or yogurt). I eat veggies with lunch and dinner and snack on fruit daily but am glad to have a new way to get more of both in my diet.
    Music – I definately listen to music when I workout. My choice varies depending on my mood – gospel, old school, reggae, R&B etc. Exceptions are when I use the theatre room at the gym where I watch a movie instead or do an exercise video (Zumba, belly dancing, Afro dance, etc) at home.
    I’m excited by this challenge and the comraderie…both inspire me and will hopefully be what I need to take my lifestyle change to the next level.

    I am recovering from an illness but I want to participate in the challenge!
    1) My smoothies have a base of almond milk, spinach, and bananas. I will add green apples and various fruit as available.
    2) Moving…period works for me. I try to do things around the house I have not been able to do. When I can I will walk around the block. Stevie Wonder’s “The Woman in Red” is my favorite CD to walk to.
    3) My motivation is to get healthy and get back to participating in family social activities!

    Hi Jenell, I’ve been doing a challenge of my own with my sister, but I will join this one also. I really didn’t know anything about the challenge until Ms. Rita from Bella Kinks told me about it. I thought you were just sharing your healthy lifestyle change through your photos of the smoothies. My sister and I have been power walking and jogging in our neighborhood, and making smoothies daily with veggies and fruits, and incorporating healthy snacks into our lives.
    I’ve really seen a change in my sis and myself, we have become stronger within the week because we looked a bit weak from the first day just power walking (our bodies shouting at us that we are out of shape lol). But now, I know we can do anything with set our minds to, especially with God’s guidance. It is about mind, body, and spirit! Anyone can do it, we are and at our own pace! Thanks for letting me share our journey through hair and health! :)

    Green Smoothie Ingredients: Kale, Spinach, Ginger, Pear, Strawberries, Flaxseed, Lactaid and water. ( I use kale and spinach because the kale is a little bitter so use less and the spinach balances out the fiber. the ginger also gives the smoothie a little spice and ginger is good for digestion.)
    I did interval training ( walking and running) for 2.45 miles. I also did a pilates workout from http://www.youtube.com/user/LivestrongWoman?feature=g-u-u .

    I workout to one of my pandora stations. mostly MaryMary ( it is a great way to encourage yourself if you are Christian. Nothing better than getting fit while getting rid of some shackles….lol)

    I will juice everyday of the week for breakfast. I will also do the interval training workout everyday except Sunday. I do a different workout from LivestrongWoman in addition to my interval training.

    1. JUICE – My smoothies are definitely more fruit based. I make them for myself and my hubby and he prefers them sweeter. My main ingredients are spinach, ground flaxseed, water, milk. I switch up the fruits I use from day to day, but my staple fruits are Banana, strawberry, mango, pear, peach, pineapple. I just introduced grapes and apple and they are yummy.2. MOVE – I do workout to music when Im walking in the park, but interesting enough, I like to watch YOUTUBE videos while I’m on the elliptical and/or treadmill. Catching up on YOUTUBE videos really keeps me in the zone and less focused on my workout.3. AFFIRM – When I read that statement it assures me that I can do anything. I can be anything and I can achieve anything.I had an awesome workout this morning. I burned 381 calories in a 30 minute cardio workout on the elliptical machine. My workout partner really motivated me this morning to get up and go to the gym. I was a little tired and needed her.

    After my workout, I made my green smoothie and it was delicious!

    1. Juice- My shakes will be fruit dominant but will include a green veggie.
    2. Move- I luv classes the most so I jam to whatever the instructor picks. I also run and weight train 3 to 5 days a week. The workout part is easy for me; shutting my pie hole is the hardest.

      I bought a 5 cup Oster blender with a food processor attachment (I needed a food processor, too) from Walmart for just under $40.00. So far, it’s been doing a really good job.

    My smoothie will be fruit dominant. I will mainly be using spinach and about 2-3 fruits, flaxseed, and h2o. No milk or fruit juices, less calories : )
    I work out with my dtrs, so I don’t use music or anything (maybe we’ll start)
    My affirmation mainly consist of me telling myself that I can do it and reminding myself how much I feel better after working out.

    Checking in on day 2. My smoothie today will be strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, mint,mand spinach. I will also add flax oil and agave nectar.
    I will hit the gym today and do cyling after work.
    My affirmation today is that When God is in control all things are possible.
    And thank you all for the support as posted yesterday. I believe we are all going to be stronger at the end of this challenge.

    1. My smoothies are fruit dominant. I’ve been doing mango, pineapple and berries with a generous handful of baby kale, coconut milk, fat free Greek yogurt, flax seed and a bit of stevia.

    2. Do you work out to music? I love to walk to music – I listen to any and everything, depending on my mood. I usually stick to something upbeat, be it dancehall, hip hop, R&b or some rocking pop :)

    3. Life is definitely an adventure and I need to be remember to enjoy the ride.

    I’m really happy to be participating in this challenge because it’s helping my get my but in gear and become active again. I’ve been spending time ensuring my hair is loved up and healthy. I should put at least the same amount of effort into caring for my body.

      Proud of myself for this week. The smoothies were no problem…5 this week. Had to PUSH myself for the movement. Got my Turbo Jam in on Wednesday and today I got some walking in. First time hubby and I took our FurBaby out for a nice long walk then later in the day we went for aother walk by ourselves. Enjoyed this beautiful NYC day! I hope everyone had a GREAT week one. On to week two! Let’s get it ladies :-)

    2. I work out with music, reggae, calypso, soca. My up coming wedding and friend Becky keeps me motivated and going to the gym. I really hate exercising. MOVE -Do you work out to music?

My breakfast smoothie will be fruit dominant and my lunch smoothie will be veggie dominant (both will contain spinach, wheatgrass, or kale)…My main fruits will be blueberries, strawberries, and bananas for the most part. I will use coconut milk and water with whey for breakfast and water and whey for lunch to minimize calories.
    2. I worked out to LL Cool J and Snoop Dogg and when I walk the treadmill or elliptical I watch TV.
    3. My body is a temple created by God; I will treat it as such!!!!

    My smoothies are fruit dominant. Main ingredients: Spinach, banana, Mango.
    I’ll be “Walking Away The Pounds” with Leslie Sansone.
    I surrender everything in my life to the Lord for Him to do with me as he pleases.

    I’ve been using the Green Smoothie as a breakfast replacement for the past two weeks, and I drink another during the afternoon. I’ve already noticed my arthritis pain is gone, I have SO much more energy, and I really crave greens and fruit now above processed foods.

    2. If I am working out to a dvd or on the xbox/wii then I use music, when I am on the treadmill or elliptical I catch up on dvr programs.

    3. When I read the statement I feel inspired. The terms open and available are really something I need to focus on. I am normally a pretty guarded person and don’t share a lot.

    Fruit dominant and mild veggies dominant. I love carrots, apple, and pineapple combos! Grapes add a nice sweet touch as well!

    I always work out to music. I’m an indie head. So I like music that is guitar heavy, or that has a unique sound and that is semi fast pace. For example one of my favorite songs right now is an old song by Rooney called When Did Your Heart Go Missing? It’s fast and poppy. I just love it. Whenever I hear it I just want to dance. Lol Btw, I haven’t been to the gym yet this week but I have been walking and taking the stairs a lot more.

    3. AFFIRM – I totally agree. Personally, I feel like I down play my life experiences because I was always comparing myself to others. But when I think about it, I’ve lived in 4 different places in the US in my 23 years of life on this planet. And I’ve had different adventures in each place. I’m very open to new experiences as long as they don’t compromise my health or life (Lol). This quote really helps me look at my life in a positive light. And now that I’ve moved to the North Country, I’m sure more adventures will ensue!

    1.My green smoothie will be fruit dominant. Main ingredient: pineapple, mango, spinach.
    2. I will be walking at least 3 times a week. While walking I usually walk the dogs and listen to music.
    3. My goal is to be healthy inside and out! To take on a lifestyle change. I have actually stared my journey Sept 1st. Since then I have been meat free!

    My smoothies this week are veggie and fruit. Spinach, Cilantro, Pears, and Apples. I have completed two days of Step class and Kickboxing.

    I definitely thought I posted the other day but I don’t see my post….ANYWAY!!!!

    1. JUICE- My juice will be more fruit based. Tuesday it was peaches, mangoes, pineapples, strawberries and spinach. Today it was raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, and spinach (with a little bit of Tuesday’s leftover fruit thrown in).

    2. MOVE- Tuesday I went to my weekly Zumba class and BOY did I move my body!!! LOL. I also plan to go to the gym on Saturday morning

    I finally found the Vega!! My smoothies are fruit dominant. Today’s included strawberries, mango, bananas, strawberry Greek yogurt, apple juice, and Vega. I like to workout to uplifting Christian music, and this week I started going to the gym again. My inspiration is God, He is my strength and “I can to ALL things through Christ which strengthens me” Phil. 4:13

    1. JUICE – My smoothies are fruit mainly. I add in spinach only. 2% milk is my liquid base. I only add ice if needed.
    2. MOVE -I listen to Pandora while running. In the mornings I tend to spend time with God and listing to gospel to start my day off right. After all, I credit Him for waking me up and allowing me to hit the trail. This week I ran 4 miles Tuesday, 4 miles on Wednesday with a one mile walk back home and I ran/walked 3 miles with a newbie in my BGR group.

    My green juice/smoothie recipes are fruit dominat. I have been using pineapples, strawberries, spinach, bananas, blueberries and raspberries. I’m not too found of the raspberries but if they are in my frig I used them. LOL!
    When I work out on the ellipitical or treadmill I have to have music. I will not be able to complete my workout if the don’t have tunes to keep me moving. My favorite music to listen to is rap. You will find 2Chainz, Biggie, Tupac, even old school music like 2 live crew. I like to get crunk when I exericse because I can really amp up my routine. Most of the time I’m taking a body combat or kickboxing class at least twice a week so I listen to whatever up beat music the instructor is playing during the class which is still very motivating.
    You can do anything that you put your mind to, the sky is the limit!!!

    1.I love spinach so I love to put in as much as I can, even some broccoli. and of course fruits. I love pineapple, mango, bananas, berries, apples, plums, nectarines, grapes.
    2. working out to music is awesome. i usually listen to my Machel Mantano, that Soca gets me moving. I’m trying to get back into crossfit, but that time will come.
    3. I’m ready for life’s adventure, I’m ready for whatever comes at me.

    .1. JUICE – Are your green juice/smoothie recipes going to be fruit dominant or veggie dominant? My smoothies will be a mix of what I have on hand , so some days it’s more fruit and somedays more veggie. When my bananas start to get ripe I freeze them in a freezer bag to add to smoothies I also use the green leafy tops of fresh strawberries in my smoothies. I will be using kefir,almond milk,water,green tea,and juice as my liquids. For a nutritional boost I will add vanilla spiru tein powder, and green foods magma plus ,and barleans forti flax.
    2. MOVE -Do you work out to music? What are favorite tunes? If not music, what do you do to keep yourself in the zone while you work out? I love Zumba the music is very up beat it makes breaking a sweat fun. I love all kinds of music and I need to get together a playlist of songs to work out to soon.
