Essential Oils for Hair

If you are Newly Natural you may have heard the term Essential Oils a few or more times.  If you are like me when I first went natural, you have no idea what Essential Oils are.

Essential oils are the highly concentrated, volatile, aromatic essences of plants. They are non-oily and highly fragrant which is extracted from a plant and evaporates quickly.

So why do naturalistas rave about Essential Oils?
Essential oils are believed to be the most effective as well as safest hair care products as they promote hair growth and hair nourishment.

How do you use essential Oils?
Essential oils can’t be used straight from the bottle. They must be diluted.  Always dilute with a carrier oil (jojoba, avocado, grapeseed etc) , and/or with distilled water.

An easy way to dilute your essential oil to add no more then 12 drops of essential oils to every 1fl oz of carrier oil/distilled water.  So to make a larger batch add no more then 48 drops to 4fl oz of carrier oil/distilled water.

Essential Oil Safety?
If you are pregnant, there are some essential oils that you must not use. Avoid putting essential oils on babies.

Why can’t you use some essential oils straight from the bottle? I use olive oil straight from the bottle sometimes as a hot oil treatment.

      Hey love,

This is a GREAT question. There are many forms of Olive oil.

The olive oil that you are using straight from the bottle is most likely “Extra Virgin Olive Oil”.

Olive oil as an essential oil can not be used straight out the bottle like that.
