Dinner with the CurlFriends Review – June 2012

By Jenell — June 30, 2012

On Saturday June 16, 2012 over 50 natural women dressed in Pink & Black, gathered in celebration to “meet, greet, and eat” at Dinner with the CurlFriends.  Jenell Stewart, founder of KinkyCurlyCoilyMe.com organized this event as a way to encourage natural women to get to know each other more intimately.  ”Women often tell me that they don’t know anyone when they attend events and that’s going to change with these dinners,” says Jenell.

The dinner was well received, women of all ages and textures turned out to share drinks and dinner over great conversation.  Many gifts and raffles were sponsored by Shea MoistureCURLS hair care, My DNA,  NaturallyCurly.comSunshine’s Natural & Loving It, and Pura Body Naturals.

Yummy Yummy! As the curlfriends arrived, Jenell welcomed them with a bright smile, a big hug, and a raffle ticket. As the curlfriends were seated they went through their stuffed curlbags!  After everyone had a chance to order drinks and dinner, Jenell introduced the first game of the night, “Don’t say HAIR”.  The rules are easy, if you say “HAIR” you lose your raffle ticket to the one who hears you.  Do you have any idea how hard it is to avoid using the word “HAIR” for hours at a natural hair event?

CurlFriends! At the conclusion of the night, the curlfriends participated in a QA session with Jenell.  Questions about how to start a natural hair blog and YouTube channel created great discussion, but of course the curlfriends wanted some advice on hair and suggestions on products. After the QA, Jenell led the curls in a final game and LOTS of pics.

Jenell has many new things in store for her readers, viewers, and subscribers. This summer she has visited Dallas, will be in Virginia, is hosting a Big Chop workshop at the event “Super Natural” with Kim Coles. And she is hosting 2 more monthly “Dinner with the CurlFriends” where naturals can meet, greet, and eat! If you are in NY, sign up today!

Will we see you at the next Dinner With the CurlFriends?
