On Saturday July 14, 2012 60 natural women dressed in Pink & Black, gathered in celebration to “meet, greet, and eat” at Dinner with the CurlFriends. Jenell Stewart, founder of KinkyCurlyCoilyMe.com organized this event as a way to encourage natural women to get to know each other more intimately. ”Women often tell me that they don’t know anyone when they attend events and that’s going to change with these dinners,” says Jenell. “The purpose of this dinner is not only to socialize, but I want the women to build relationships. Everyone gets a name tag because it is important to me that the women refer to each other by name, because I always feel special when someone refers to me by my name.”
The dinner was well received, women of all ages and textures turned out to share drinks and dinner over great conversation. Many gifts and raffles were sponsored by Shea Moisture, CURLS hair care, NaturallyCurly.com, Lucky Lucy Body Deserts, Coco Curls Natural Hair Care, and Natural~Roxx.
As the curlfriends arrived, Jenell welcomed them with a bright smile, a big hug, and a raffle ticket. As the curlfriends were seated they were instructed to order dinner right away because their would be some moving around later in the evening. After everyone had a chance to order drinks and dinner, Jenell introduced herself and shared the history of KinkyCurlyCoilyMe! She also shared her journey and how she became natural back in March of 2010.
Towards the end of the night, the CurlFriends participated in question and answer game, where Jenell asked a question and the CurlFriends had to sit down or remain standing depending on their response. Jenell reports, “This game was hilarious! There were a handful of women that admitted to having over 20 bottles conditioner! I also had women in our midst that have been natural for over 7 years, with one natural he enitre life! After the final game, Jenell encouraged the ladies to connect with one another and build friendships. ”You wouldn’t believe me if I told you, but I met my closest friends at meetups!” Jenell exclaims.
Jenell has many new things in store for her readers, viewers, and subscribers. This summer she has visited Dallas, will be in Virginia for an event in Richmond, is hosting a Big Chop workshop at the event “Super Natural” with Kim Coles. And she is planning on taking “Dinner with the CurlFriends” on the road! This will allow more naturals tp meet, greet, and eat! If you are in NY, sign up for the August dinner today!
Will we see you at the next Dinner With the CurlFriends?
