If you didn’t join the challenge in the beginning I’m sorry, it’s too late.  You can register for the Winter challenge on November 1.

4 more weeks to go!

I can’t believe that this challenge is almost over, like I feel like we just started the other day and Sept is right around the corner.

I’m so proud of all your hard work and I know your hair is even happier. Now is the time to really focus on your castor oil applications. Reevaluate your regimen and make sure you are doing all you can!

Check In Questions:

1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?

2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?

3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

In the video below, I explain how my edges have benefited greatly from the use of castor oil and I do a length check of my edges.

Do you Tweet? If so use hashtag #KCCM so we all can follow the convo.  Feel free to include me  @BlakIzBeautyful

Keep encouraging eachother, you all are doing soo well!

I feel as if natural hair is here to stay! We as women are learning to embrace our natural beauty and stray from what society says is acceptable. When I see other naturalistas I smile on the inside. I want to know their story. I want to ask for tips! I want to applaud them for thinking outside the relaxed box! I used castor oil as a sealant. I have not experienced any challenges. I will put castor oil on my scalp today and step up my game!

    • Nish Wallace

I agree that natural hair is here to stay for majority but I also have seen how others complain about the maitenance of it and are thinking about a relaxer and some have already.

      • Tiffany Hines

I don’t know any naturals who have gone back to relaxers, but we do sometimes complain about the maintenance. If you have a relaxer you can wrap, comb it out and go. It’s not that simple for us, but I do LOVE the compliments. :-)

    • Tiffany Hines

Being natural is a lifestyle. You change what you eat and products you use. But, I wouldn’t change it for the world.

  • http://twitter.com/IamNads Nadine Stewart

    1. No I don’t think natural hair is a fad. How can what grows out of our heads be a ‘fad’? I think what is happening is that we are becoming more aware of the negative results of chemicals and more educated on the maintenance and upkeep of our hair in it’s natural state. This is a good thing!

    2. I feel happy when I see other naturalistas! I notice them so much more now than I did when I was relaxed/weaved. I’m much more aware now.

    3. I did well last week. I’ve now finished the bottle of Sunny Isle JBCO (with Rosemary) that I started when I did the summer castor oil challenge back in June. I’m now using Tropic Isle JBCO and I’m keen to see if there will be any difference. Despite using JCBO religiously since the summer my edges are still very sparse so when this new bottle finishes I think I will try Tropic Isle Red Pimento Hair Growth oil instead to see if that works!

    • AngieYuuup

Some people have made it a fad. Just like certain hair styles from the 90′s, 80′s, and other decades, natural hair can be a fad for some. It’s not a fad to me, but I guarantee some of the girls you know will not stay natural in a few years and will go back to perms. Because some of our natural sisters only see it as a fad, when people like you and I never saw it as a fad until people started going natural for the wrong reasons.

    • Nish Wallace

I agree, people are starting to want to take special care of their hair now of days. Especially their edges. There are so many workshops and meetups to educate one on their hair. I have the red pimento strong roots oil but it has to be rinsed out, I did not know tropicle isle had growth oil too. I use Tropic isle lavander JBCO and want to try the sunny isle, as i heard its much stronger and effective but your hair seem to say otherwise

      • http://twitter.com/IamNads Nadine Stewart

Hey Nish. The red pimento strong roots oil is the same thing as the hair growth oil. I think the full and proper name is “Tropic Isle Red Pimento Strong Roots Hair Growth Oil”. Has it been working for you? Have you seen much of a difference?

      • Tiffany Hines

I didn’t realize there were so many variations of the JBCO. I need to do more research.

    • Tiffany Hines

Hopefully since the challenge is coming to an end you have seen some results. If not try vitamin E oil on your edges and/or vitamins for hair growth.

      • http://twitter.com/IamNads Nadine Stewart

Thanks Tiffany! I started taking Biotin tabs a month ago so will keep to my regime and will keep doing length checks even after the challenge has finished. Thanks for the vitamin E oil tip, I might give that a try too. How has your challenge gone?

        • Tiffany Hines

You are welcome, I’m glad I could share. Well as far as the challenge I started off GREAT I was on fire, using the everyday and sometimes twice a day, then I fell off a little in the middle, and ended good.

  • Carnelia

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? Its here to stay for the last 9 months of transitioning I gave realized that all these years of perming I didn’t have to do it and once other people realize that going natural will continue to pop!!

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?Excited i can’t help but look to see their beautiful locks.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges th…still following the same routine with adding to my scalp every other day.

  • http://www.facebook.com/debra.kindred.9 Debra Kindred

I dont feel as if natural hair is a fad. I feel as if women of color are finally able to embrace the hair god gave us after years of feeling as if a relaxer was only option and it feels good to just be yourself, i will never go back to a relaxer. I feel proud when i see other naturals it is a beautiful thing. No challenges thus far last week went great used my castor oil at least 3 times.

  • http://www.facebook.com/kandi.cowan Kandi Cowan

1.Actually…where im from (trinidad and tobago) natural hair is a fad. They dont embrace their natural texture either, they just want to have nice curly 3b hair even tho their texture is 4c so they are still putting chemicals in their hair However, that is not the case with me. I looovvveee my 3c/4a texture cant get enough of it. ^_^.
    2. I definiately pay attention when i see other naturals. I cant help but wonder what is their routine or how do they care for it but after talking with some of them i realize they texturized their natural hair.
    3. Im still goin strong with my routine applyin to scalp, ends and hairline

    • K Joseph

I’m from Trinidad too! I wore natural hair from time to time when I lived there, but it never stuck; I think lack of knowledge with how to maintain was key. Recently in my visits back, I am impressed with how many folks are natural. My sister decided to be natural over 10 years ago and she has super long, beautiful dreadlocks. Another good friend who moved back to TnT from the states look her craft of sisterlocks and opened a salon which is doing quite well. I am not there all the time, but from the outside looking in, when I walk through the streets of POS, I’m excited about the amount of folks who have long natural hair. That commitment of time, may suggest the tide is turning.

    • http://www.facebook.com/gharry1 Gail Harry

Hey Kandi, I too am from TnT and I totally agree with you. When I go to visit my family and we are out and about I am shocked to see sooo many women with all that weaves I dont know how they do it bc it is soo hot. I guess to each his own. I must say that both my sisters, my brother and my mother have locks. My other sister did the big chop and my younger cousin has locs also.

      • http://www.facebook.com/kandi.cowan Kandi Cowan

Yes!!! Its too hot for all these long weaves. But like u said to each their own lol

    • kclinton

I am also from trindad and have the same texture hair 3c/4a what are some of the products you use?

      • http://www.facebook.com/kandi.cowan Kandi Cowan

Girrlll… Right now, products i hve is v05 conditioner, as i am co wash and my honey child cream

    • Kaila P

I’m not from trinidad but it’s nice to see a fellow caribbean naturalista on here! I’m from St. Kitts-Nevis by the way :)

      • http://www.facebook.com/kandi.cowan Kandi Cowan

        Niccceee

    • Tiffany Hines

I have a co-worker from Jamaica and she said she would NEVER go natural. She goes to the Dominican salon once a month and gets a relaxer every 3-4 months. But, one time she had a weave in for 3 months and when she took it out and washed it her FRO was huge, I’m like girl you are already natural, lol!

  • Kittykatu

I do not believe it is a fad it’s a choice and I’m happy to be natural!
I love to she other naturals and its amazing when I receive compliments and asked want products I use! Last week my same routine edges with the oil. My work travel schedule for the past month has been crazy I hope my post have been coming through. London, Paris, Munich, hamburg, Amsterdam all in 2 weeks crazy but I love it!

    • K Joseph

How exciting! I would love to travel to those countries (but perhaps in several trips, versus a 2 week period) :-) .

Do you find your routine easy to maintain on the road?

  • Guest

    1. I think that this is an exciting movement versus a fad. A level of higher consciousness has been struck and I believe that the vast majority of folks who are switching to natural hair will stay with natural hair. Also at play, as we continue to learn to nurture and love our tresses, the power of freedom and feeling of joy it brings will be hard to match if we slap relaxers on or press or stifle our coils with wigs – the impulse to move back to natural will get stronger and stronger!
    2. When I see other naturalistas, I may have hair envy and wonder how they take care of their hair or where they get their hair done. I seldom ask though (I wonder why that is?)
    3. Fabulous week! No issues – happy – healthy – thick (wow – what a difference Castor Oil Makes!!!!) – sexy – transformed hair!

I transitioned with wigs, b/c I wasn’t ready for the world to see my TWA and when it was long enough I put cornrows in it and then back to wigs. It took me 6 months to rock my fro.

      • http://www.facebook.com/karlene.joseph Karlene James Joseph

I wore weaves and wigs periodically during my journey too. Sometimes for a change; sometimes because i just did not know what to do with my hair.

  • Vanessa V Noir

I think natural hair is a fad,

Ive always been natural,i love it!! So it’s never been a issue with me.I feel good when I see other naturalistas especially when its really curly and textured,my hair is naturally straight.

I have been bunning my hair with gel so i have not been following through so i really need to do some other styles and oil my hair more often.

  • Yeveshia

    1) no I don’t think natural hair is a fad because there is more information out here now on the effects a perm has on your and how going natural makes your hair grow more (mine has) from being natural.

    2) I don’t know about you guys but I get excited! It takes a lot of courage to go natural because everyone might not like it but since I have went natural I haven’t had one person say something mean. I like to see what styles they are wearing or ask how they did the style or even ask what kind of products they are using =}

    3) I’ve had an ok week I ran out of castor oil on Tuesday so I haven’t put any on my hair since then but I am going out today and get somemore!!!

  • Krystal Ferguson

    1. I don’t think natural hair is a fad. I do, however, think it is reaching a peak in popularity like it did in the 70′s. I think eventually most women will resort back to relaxed, but most will stay natural.
    2. Being in the transition phase, I feel alot of hair envy! I can’t wait until I am fully natural. I want to do the BC, but my man would be so unhappy! Love him.
    3. Last week I actually met all my goals. I massaged my scalp at least 3 times. My challenges keep being the same: finding the time and energy to massage my scalp after I’ve for 12 hours. But, I’m hanging in there though!

  • http://www.ChicReDecor.com/ Tiffany JO

I dont think natural hair is a fad. When I see other naturalists we normally end up conversating but our vibes click. I ended upbgetting a sew in and qas afraidof putting the castor oil in my hair because i didn’t want the thread to slide out.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Chelle.Mason.Hillmon Chelle Hillmon

    1. No, I don’t think natural hair is a fad. It grown from my head so how could it be a fad.
    2. I feel empowered and a sense of pride when you see other naturalistas.
    3. I did pretty good last week (week 8) I followed through with my goal without any challenges.

  • AngieYuuup

    1. I have to say both. To some it has become a fad. It’s obvious because they overdo it. For others like me, its a lifestyle. I was natural longer than I was permed. I recently went back natural over a year and a half ago. I didn’t even know there was a YouTube world of naturalistas out there. So it definitely wasn’t a fad personally for me.

    2. I feel good when I see other naturals. I was picked on all through elementary and middle school. So to see the same girls that picked on me are going natural is weird, and kind of makes me mad because they were the main reason I started perming my hair. Overall, I’m glad to see other naturals because it’s making it more acceptable in society, and showing younger boys and girls that it’s ok to be natural.

    3. I did great this week. My main focus this week was to focus on my edges and mix the remainder of my JBCO with my other oils I like to use.

  • http://www.facebook.com/gharry1 Gail Harry

No I dont think that natural hair is a fad I think that the information out there is more for awareness and promoting women to embrace themselves as a whole. On the other had I thanks that some companies and folks are kind of capitalizing on us “natural girls”. This whole “natural movement” is a state of mind because if I listen to the comments I get about being natural I would relax or put a weave in my hair.

When i see “naturalist” I am just in shock and awe because they come a dime a dozen in my neck of the woods. I think that because i am natural i am more aware of sisters who wear their natural hair. I love it!! This castor oil challenge has really challenged me to complete my goal especially taking care of my edges. I have now switched from the JBCO becuse it made my heair shed something awful. I am now using a different brand and it seems to be working, my edges are coming back in nicely they could be more fuller but as time goes on I am optumistic that they will.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lekesia.dix Lekesia Dix

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? I absolutely do not believe it is a fad. I think that more women are becoming more knowledgeable of how they can have healthy hair without chemicals and styles are endless.People are seeing more growth and thickness from keeping the hair in a natural state and the versatility of styles, going from straight to kinky.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? So. empowered to stay strong in my journey. Seeing the transformation from the twa to bra strap give me the strength to know that one day my hair will soon be in the number, I Love it!

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I maintained my nightly routine of scalp massages using my jbco mixture with essentials oils. My spray mixture of aloe vera juice, distill water, leave-in conditioner and essential oils, and cold pressed castor oil to seal. I see the growth however shrinkage is the killer.

  • Tyrena

    1. Natural hair to me is not a fad because we are falling in love with our hair and it feels free and we are learning about our hair and teaching the younger girls that there curls are beautiful.
    2. I love seeing the different textures of hair, we just have to learn to talk to each other don’t be afraid to ask about what someone use are how much will you spend on produts for your hair are who does your hair for you or can you teach me how to twist. Etc..
    3. I but my hair in mini twist so I use my castor oil in my henna mix, deep conditioner, to seal also in my Shea butter mix. I applied castor oil to my scalp and ends of my hair 4x days this week. My goal is to learn how to add pictures for the next changelle. Loving it!

  • http://twitter.com/afroballerina The AfroBallerina

    1. Natural hair is not a fad. It’s a way of life. It’s awareness. It’s acceptance of our natural beauty. It’s nothing short of amazing!

    2. I feel a sense of pride when I see women with natural hair, rocking it proudly. Especially those who are inspired to do so because of seeing others that wear it fiercely!

    3. I had my hair in a protective style last week. I stuck to my goals. No challenges this week since I didn’t have to re-twist every night :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/Kira0313 Shakira O’Garro

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?

No! I think it’s a revolution! There are too many people going natural for it to just be a fad. People you never even expected to be natural are natural! I love it! Lol

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?

A sense of pride! Especially girls with the TWAs! I love giving them advice IF they ask for it of course! Lol

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

I’ve been using castor oil in my leave in and deep conditioner but I haven’t been putting it on my scalp lately. I need to pick it up.

I haven’t checked in a while because I didn’t have a computer. I tried to access the site on my phone but it didn’t work or couldn’t find it. ~.~ I’ll be going back a few weeks and doing check ins today. Lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/cdbmj Courtney D James

    Hey guys!!!
    1. I feel like natural hair is a fad for the MEDIA industry!! I swear, every commercial you see, these days, has to have a young black woman with some form of curly hair–whether it be texturized, natural, or still relaxed, I feel like marketing strategy has created a formula for still “hitting” our audience. I just smh at their approach because 5 yrs ago, EVERY commercial did NOT need a black chick with the curly type hair! lmao…

    2. I definitely pay attention to other naturalistas! I remember the first KCCM Pink & Black affair I attended. I was on the train and a naturalista was standing in front of me. I swear, ALL I could think of was HOW i was going to copy her style when I got back home! LOL and it turns out that she was attending the KCCM event as well lol.

    3. This week was better than most. One day, I focused on my edges and nape. Another day, I focused on my scalp and strands, and a third day was focused on my ends. Hmmm… I’ve been wanting to do a hot oil treatment too but idk…that would include me doing a co-wash and I have a busy schedule already… Still considering it tho. lol

    • Tishana Trainor

I completely understand it as a media fad. You hit the nail on the head!

    • http://kinkycurlycoilyme.com/ Jenell : BlakIzBeautyful

It’s interesting that you mention this because for sooo long we (as in black women) complained that we were not being represented in the media. We finally are and it’s great. Not a bad thing at all.

      • http://www.facebook.com/cdbmj Courtney D James

Yes! It’s definitely a great thing!!

  • Tamrenb

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
I would consider it that way. The reason is because just about ever commercial you see, down to all these “products” for natural hair, it has blown up in a major way. All of a sudden, everyone wants to cater to natural hair and talking about it way more than usual.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?

I feel great about it! More and more women are embracing their natural texture- it’s a proud moment. We are getting more and more open as far as talking about it. So many conversations are getting started now, you can actually go to a natural and start talking about the curly do’ and it .leads to other things to discuss. Hair opens to dialogue it seems.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

I actually did well. I DC and applied castor oil every other day like I’ve planned.

    • http://kinkycurlycoilyme.com/ Jenell : BlakIzBeautyful

Ten years ago the women who went natural had very few options. Now there are tons! I’m thinking these companies are keeping up with the time. Don’t you?

      • Tamrenb

        They are! It’s a great thing :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=616849306 Torrie Jackson

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? No, I don’t feel it’s a fad, people have been rocking natural hair for a long time it’s just now more people are into healthy
hair so you see a lot more natural looks.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? Since I’m transitioning helps me to stay focus because eventually I will be there. A lot of my friends rock their natural hair
so they help with ideal and knowledge about products

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?I did ok this with my goals last week; I had a lot going on so there were days that I miss. Have not run into to many challenges yet.

  • Celeste

Do you think natural hair is a fad? Not for me. Why or why not? The truth is my daughter never had a perm and when she came to me and asked for one I told her no. She said that its not fair you got one! When I was twenty nine I had a hysterectomy due to fibroids. There is a direct link between perms and fibroids (among other medical conditions) and I gonna do everything in my power yo keep her from going through what I went through,

I feel great when I see other beautiful black women confident enough to wear their hair the way God made it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/SassyTXGal Ashley Rose

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
No, I simply think it is a choice. Going & being natural is a challenge and it takes patience and consistancy. I think being natural is “NATURAL” LOL, but is beautiful & fun at the same time.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
It puts a smile on my face, because in my mind I am thinking “There is another like me!” =)

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
To be honest I did bad this past week and Idid not follow through with any of my goals as far as my hair. I really didnt have the designated time to do my hair the way I had planned in my head because I was so busy working overtime…so this week I will be back on track.

  • Tai

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? For some it is(which confuses me), but for me it a permanent thing

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? Pride

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? This week was ok, I’m battling exhaustion(full time student, part time job) so I’m trying my damnest to keep it up

    • Nish Wallace

DIDDO to question #3….I feel the same way, in the same boat, but also preparing to go on a mission/counseling trip to africa, so i’ve had so many meetings and doctors appts etc. I too feel pride when I see a fellow naturalista. Happy hair growing.

  • Shudiara McMillian

I think it is for some. What I really get out of my natural hair journey is that is should just be a way of life to know how to take care of your hair with or without chemicals. I so confident in what I’ve learned from that if I do decide to chemically process my hair it would be an easy transition to go back natural.I think overall if people just do it for the look they will always take with them how to care for the hair no matter what state it’s in.

When i see another natural women it makes me feel great because even though when don’t know each other it is still an instant connection because of the common interest we have in natural hair. It’s definatetly a conversation starter.

Last week I didn’t use the castor oil. My edges started looking a bit thinner so I took a break this week I may incorporate it in my deep conditioner this week.

    • Tiffany Hines

Shudiara, I agree it is a conversation starter. Hey girl how long have you been natural, what do you use, do you watch those YouTube videos, lol?!?!?

  • http://www.facebook.com/keisha.tysonjohnson Keisha Tyson-Johnson

1.I don’t think its a fad anymore, bcause its becoming more acceptable in the work place.
    2. Yes I am always watching other naturalistas cause I love to change hair styles…always have. I also take note of the many textures of natural hair.
    3. This week I got a peprmint wash and deep condition at the hairshop followed by a great castor oil scalp treatment and then a cute. 2 strand do….lovin the whole castor oil thing. I stil oil between the plaits every other day but I added vit E oil to my mixture.

  • lori924

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
I personally dont think natural hair is a fad, even though it may seem that way right now. So many people have been natural for many years but we never noticed until recently because it became more welcoming amongst us.
    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? I love to see fellow naturals they can actually be a source of inspiration for future styles, I have noticed naturals are easier to talk to when you ask them how did they achieve their hairstyle and what products did they use. They are willing to offer up that information. Am i the only one that feels this way??

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? week 8 i used my JBCO 4 times twice a day, i cowashed about 3 days last week but i didnt deep condition so maybe that was a challenge because normally i deep condition when i shampoo

    • http://kinkycurlycoilyme.com/ Jenell : BlakIzBeautyful

      I DEFINITELY FEEL THAT WAY!!

When I ask someone, “what products did you use on your twist out?” They talk and talk and talk and talk. I can’t get them to shut up. Lol
We immediately become besties off of ONE simple question. It’s amazing.

  • Cherlyn

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?

I think every hair style is a fad. But going chem or natural is a choice.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalists?

I feel as thou there are other who are trying to have healthy hair also.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? Not to bad. I missed 1 day. but made up for it by using it as a hot oil later.

  • http://www.facebook.com/trinice.johnson Trinice Trueblackbeauty Johnso

I dont think natural hair is a fad because woman have been doing this from the veginning if time when there was no relaxers just a hot comb so no i dont believe its a fad….when i see other naturalistas i get excited since i did my big chop for the second time on Jully 18th of this year (a low ceasar) i look at natural stules and im like i cant wait till my hair gets back to that length or I find myself saying her hair motivates me to stay strong in my journey and knowing my hair will retain length and stay healthy…..last week i kept my same routine and goals i didnt have any challenges

    1. No I do not think natural hair is a fad. I believe there are women who think natural hair is beautiful and will wear their natural curls regardless of what others think. There may be some who wear there natural hair as apart of a fad, but for the most part more women are becoming aware of how to take care of their natural curls and are loving it!

    2. It makes me happy to see other naturalistas because its beautiful when women embrace their natural self. it also gives me an opportunity to talk to them and inquire about hair products and to see what works for them. It has been my experience that naturalists have been very kind about sharing info. :)

    3. I had a few obstacles last week that made it a bit difficult to meet my goals. I was sick in bed for three days with strep throat, chills and fever, which made it hard for me to care for my hair and apply my CO. I only applied CO 2 times last week.:(

    • http://kinkycurlycoilyme.com/ Jenell : BlakIzBeautyful

      OMG. Are you feeling better??!

      • MHz Garnett!!!

I’m doing much better now. Thanks for asking:)

  • http://www.facebook.com/trinice.johnson Trinice Trueblackbeauty Johnso

S/O to my Trinidad family im also from trinidad and i do agree with the others they think it should be a 3 a or b curl and dont really embrace the texture of the hair so sometimes it can be a fad for others

  • lajuana1

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?no……….to much work to be done to be just a fad!

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?Love it

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?Good…….just detangling is a chore still!

    • http://kinkycurlycoilyme.com/ Jenell : BlakIzBeautyful

Have you seen my detangling tutorial on YT? It may help you out, it takes me less than 10 minutes.

      • lajuana1

yes , I tried it! some parts of my hair is very tightly coiled!

        • http://kinkycurlycoilyme.com/ Jenell : BlakIzBeautyful

In the areas that are tightly coiled, use smaller sections and get them dripping wet. You my end up with 10 sections but they will be so small that you truly go through them faster than 4 huge sections. Please try 10 sections. Nice and wet. Start at ends and then come back and let me know okie?

          • lajuana1

            ok I will thanks!!

  • Natosha Hardy

    1. I definitely do not think that natural hair is a fad because to me a fad means that it will fade away at some point, and I think the evolution of women converting to natural hair is anything but that.I think women are realizing the harmful effects of the creamy crack and are becoming more conscious of what they allow to get into their pores. The natural hair movement is definitely “hair” to stay!!
    2. When I see other naturalistas I feel more confident about my own hair and I feel a sense of connection with them although I dont know them. Its definitely a feeling like we are apart of a secret club that only we know about and I just want to throw up my black pride fist as though I am back in the 70′s. I love it!!

3.I did great last week remembering every night to do my nightly regimen and tying my hair up. I have reached all of my goals this week and I am happy with my progress, having no challenges thus far.

  • Happiness!!

I highly doubt that natural hair is a fad. Natural hair has
always been a part of our lives since ancient and pre-colonial Africa. We have
carried natural hairstyles through our lives since this time. We believed that
our spirit was in our hair because it was the highest point toward the Creator.
Even if we do not remember these things consciously, it is still buried inside
of us. Whenever we needed to feel liberated, one of the first things we
liberated was our hair. One can liberate their mind, but making a physical
transformation is an immediate and bold move. We had natural hair movements on
an off: the 60’s with the Black Power Movement, the 80’s with the rush of newly
printed books of Afrikan thought (though the relaxer made an appearance, the
newly modified conk), the 90’s (Lauryn Hill and other musicians), etc. And now
that we are in this going green movement, I think that is one of the factors
    that sparked the movement.

However, I also believe that though this movement of natural
hair is ours, it is being taken by others that do not care about the spiritual
and liberating aspect of it, they only want to profit from it. It is good that
many women of Afrikan descent are making their own products, but when corporations
that are not Black owned begin to jump on the bandwagon now when they NEVER
sold products specifically for Black hair, it makes me hesitant. It takes the
spirit out of this new transition in our lives and paints it as a fad.

When I see other naturalistas, I feel so happy.

Last week was pretty great! I wore a protective style and
even donned my beaded hair clips that I just bought! Photos of it are below!

  • http://www.facebook.com/IamYolanda Yolanda R. Arrington

For some, being natural may be a fad. It certainly is a booming business. I’m committed to it…for now. I’ve been natural for two years. I have always changed my hair a lot. I can’t promise that I’ll be natural forever. For me, hair is an accessory. I prefer the health of my hair without a relaxer but I could wake up one day and want a short, straight pixie cut. I believe the beauty of being a Black woman is how flexible we can be with our hair. I enjoy that.

I’m always looking at other naturals for hair ideas and styling techniques. I think it’s great to see other women embracing their natural hair.

I’m still using castor oil on my edges and eye brows. I had my hair colored red on Thursday (highlights), so I will be doing even more conditioning and Huetiful steaming to keep it moisturized. I can tell my hair is growing and my edges are growing as well. I’ll be continuing using castor oil well after the challenge.

  • Reishal

    1. I don’t believe that being natural is a fad. I believe that it’s freedom. Once you realize all of your options and how versatile you hair is I don’t understand why you wouldn’t embrace it. It’s fun in my opinion.
    2. Seeing other naturalist excites me. It’s fun talking about the journey and our process!!
    3. I’ve been sticking the LOC method and have found it to be working very well for me. My hair is staying moisturized longer and I’m abler to extend my styles

  • http://www.facebook.com/brenda.m.coleman Brenda Marshall Coleman

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? No Why or why not? I think a lot of us are just discovering what some have known for a while. That natural hair is healthier. We are afraid to embrace our natural selves giving into peer pressure to look like everyone else. This is my lifestyle and I am embracing it with open arms.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? I just wonder wow whats her routine and what can I do to get my hair to look like that.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Not so bad. Did you follow through with your goals? I managed to stay with my three times a week. These next few weeks want to do more. Any challenges thus far? no

    • http://www.facebook.com/andria.clausell Andria Clausell

I wonder the same thing when I see other naturalistas. One of these days I’m just going to walk up to one and ask them lol.

      • Jcb3wg

@Andria girl just ask I do it all the time! I have gotten such positive responses sometimes we would be standing a department store for hours Literally talking hair!

    • Nish Wallace

Yes I so agree that people are afraid to embrace their natural selves and its especially hard when you have negative comments. I straigtned my hair the other day and although I do love it, I love my coils more because they are not boring to me. So many people told me I look sexier and more grown up with my hair straigthened and it is Soooooo long. I stood up for my love of my natural hair and said “i’m sorry you like my hair straight but I Absolutely LOVE My natural Coils…….

      • Deanna H.

Negative comments deter others away from going natural. I try to combat people’s negative viewpoints, but some people are going to think what they think no matter what. But I won’t allow outright disrespect towards me or others if I’m around. It’s so uncalled for! Positivity is the way to go! :)

        • Tiffany Hines

Deanna they sure do. It’s crazy b/c I get these so-called negative comments like, “I don’t see how you could do that, or girl you better than me” from Black women with relaxed hair BUT every man black, white, Hispanic, give me so many compliments.

  • Melissa N. Houseal

I agree with the posters who have noted the increase of curly-haired black women in advertising and the overwhelming amount of natural hair care products. Although this hair has been our hair forever, only recently have others taken notice and decided to jump on this bandwagon for profit. I don’t really blame them though, we spend so much money on haircare and if we’re not in salons every Saturday, we have to spend it somewhere. So whether it’s a fad or a newfound awareness, I don’t know, but I love that it’s spreading like wildfire right now.

I find myself staring at other naturals now when I never did that when I was relaxed. I love seeing naturals with texture like mine, so maybe I can get some tips on what they do. Other naturals at work ask me what I do to my hair and other friends who have been natural longer than I have also ask. I am happy to both receive information and tell folks what I have learned. Natural hair is a great conversation starter!

Last week, I applied JBCO to my edges every other night. I didn’t apply much to my hair strands, as I skipped my wash day last week and already had plenty of product in my hair. Last night (wash night) I used regular CO in my prepoo, and then applied JBCO to my edges and scalp after I set my hair.

  • KimberlyD

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Not at all. Why or why not? I think black women are finally feeling more comfortable with their own natural hair and with the natural hair movement, they see the confidence and pride of other women who wear their hair natural and it gives them the courage to transition or BC. It did for me!

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? Happy! lol, I feel like “I can’t wait till I BC!” Just a few more weeks :-)

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did good, oiled up 4 days this week. Did you follow through with your goals? yes Any challenges thus far? Just reminding myself to get it done.

  • Ivory Brown

    1. I do feel like some ppl are going natural as a fad and not because they want healthy hair. But hey that’s their choice and I try not to judge ppl on it.
    2. When I see other naturalistas…. if I like their hair I wonder what products they use.
    3. I fell off my regimen this week. I only used the castor oil once. My laziness is my only problem lol

  • Nathalie Valentin

    1. I think for some individuals going natural may be a fad and when they realize their is a regimen to maintain your curls. I have seen a lot of woman go back to chemicals because they feel the maintenance is overwhelming for naturals.

    2. When I see other naturalistas I often wonder what is their hair care regimen and how long it took her to reach her hair length.

    3. I am still following through with my applications of JBCO to my scalp at least 3x a week with no challenges so far.

  • http://www.facebook.com/michelle.bellevilla Michelle Belle-Villa

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? No, natural hair is not a fad. It’s as it should be. Most are becoming more comfortable and enjoying our natural hair. We’re embracing our own beauty as well as reaching out to others.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? I love seeing my Curly Sistas/ Naturalistas embracing their natural beauty. I always smile and give them a compliment. Sometimes others compliment me as well.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I’m still keeping up with my routine. Glossy, glamorous, gorgeous hair!

BTW, Jenell I love it when you say Curlfriends! I do it too! Happy Hair Journey!

  • Onikki Johnson

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?yes because people are back and forth with weaves and relaxers. Most just go natural when their hair breaks off. They do the big chop to let it grow back healthy and once it grows out they back to the weaves and relaxers.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?I love to see other naturals. I like the different styles they rock and how everyone has different textures.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?my only challenge that I’m having is my scalp feels dry and very itchy!!

    • Tishana Trainor

Even if a woman is wearing a weave as a protective style?

  • http://www.facebook.com/aryka.griffin Aryka Griffin

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
In my opinion I don’t think so, Natural hair has been around forever, It’s something we are born with. The fact that women are now feeling comfortable enough in society to rock what they are born with is a sign they we are evolving,

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
I feel giddy! I love to see others rocking their natural hair. I have to actually stop myself from creepily staring to long lol.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

My hair has been sort of dry lately with the change of weather, So thats been a definite challenge this week! I’m still learning to adjust my regimen to fit the weather lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/andria.clausell Andria Clausell

    1. I think it depends on who it is. For some people it is a fad. For me it’s not. It’s a lifestyle change. I want to do whats best for my hair and those chemicals aren’t it.

    2. I get so excited when I see other naturalistas! I don’t know why, but before I decided to be a naturalista, I never noticed other naturalistas lol. Now I see them everywhere! In one of my classes, there are a few naturalistas, at this church I visited I saw a bunch, lol I see them all the time, which is so encouraging. I love seeing everyone’s curl patterns, because they’re all different. I love it!

    3. Week 8 went well. My hair is growing, which is so amazing. I have stuck to my goals. I haven’t had any challenges this week.

  • Tishana Trainor

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? No, it grows out of our head, and as the rest of the world thinks Organic and Natural are fads, there have always been Black women wearing their hair without chemicals.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? I love it! I feel supported and it helps build other women’s self esteem!:)

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did great. I sealed my crochet braid after applying my leave-in, and even used it after I washed them. I took my crochet braids out last night, and I henna’d it this morning, so I’m back to my original routine as I prepare it for another month of protective styling… More crochet braids.

  • http://www.facebook.com/coretta.campbell Coretta Lovingme Campbell

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? I don’t think it is because there are more and more women becoming natural and raising their girls to be natural. Since natural hair is so versatile we can have straight or curly hair.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? I actually feel proud to see other naturals and it’s also very encouraging to help other naturalistas stay natural.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did good last week with my goals with out any challenges.

  • http://twitter.com/AFeistyOne White Whisper

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? Ok don’t be upset with my answer, but I must say Yes/No… Women who have chose it as a fad, are now realizing that they can actual maintain their natural roots. As for me it wasn’t really no other choice. I was keeping my hair maintained by a professional, who in turned burned my hair till it was bald(on my crown). I just couldn’t see me using a relaxer when my hair was in that condition.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? I feel like were in this elite family for napturals, and membership is kinky, curly, wavy, etc… lol

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?Last week was rather well, bye bye itchy scalp, hello luxurious dense hair. I kept my routine the same well I modified it a bit, when I did my hot oil treatments, I sat under a hooded dryer, as oppose to the hot towel on my head, 3xs a week hot oil massages with JBCO/EVOO for my edges, and ends.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Celei Celeste ItsbyGod’sGrace A-Pier

1)I dont think having natural hair is a fad. I think more & more women are starting to re-evaluate their lives and they are choosing healthier options for themselves which includes hair care.
    2) When I see other naturalistas I get encouraged I love it all the great styles, textures etc….
    3) I did good with my goals. My hair only needs jbcco most 3x a week. So there wasnt a problem keeping up with my regimen. I massaged my scalp everyday which made my scalp feel excellent and works the jbcco in nicely.

  • Zeek R

    1. I dont think natural hair is a fad, I just think that at different points in people’s lives they are ready to try something different, make a change, or just accept their natural gifts.

2, I have mixed feelings- totally proud to see people loving their natural state, but a little envious, because my hair is not at the point i’d like it to be.

    3. Stuck with my goals, oiled and conditioned as planned. The only challenge I had was frustration with styling. UGH! I am loving and appreciating the softness and thickness of my natural hair, buuuuuuuut I want versatility in styling and it’s just not long enough yet for some of the styles I like or I dont have the technique to do things right. Tried a twist out this week, looked a hot mess! Lol

  • F_Mlicious

    1. I don’t necessary think it’s a fad, but outsiders who haven’t embraced their natural hair or argue that it is unprofessional probably think like that. I know that one of my aunts from Nigeria told me that only poor or “village girls” wear their hair in that state, but I like not spending an entire paycheck on braid extensions and weaves.
    2. Where I live, I’m one of the only few women of color, so it’s not until I head out when I see diversity. If I do see a naturals, I get excited like a kid in a candystore. Sometimes, I’ve been tempted to compliment people on their hair, but I don’t want to come off as a creep lol.
    3. I did fine these last few weeks. I stopped using the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie for the LOC method. I’ve noticed the colder it’s getting, my scalp absorbs product faster, and I don’t want my hair completely drenched. I also read that if you have a peanut/nut allergy, you shouldn’t use shea butter. If that’s true, I may switch to cocoa/mango butter so I don’t break out :(

  • bosslady

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
Being from Africa, going natural is def not a fad. my mother didnt start putting the creamy crack on my hair until we moved to the states.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
I get so excited and ask questions.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
Going pretty good. I love the oil.

  • http://www.facebook.com/althearocks Althea Robinson

I do not believe my natural hair is a fad because the sole reason I decided to go natural was because of an extreme case of damage hair. The memory of it is horrifying. Lesson learned.

When I see other naturalists I feel proud of their decision to empower themselves and free their minds of shackles that have made our people feel so inferior.

Last week, I kept my hair braided. I did the LOC Method with Castor Oil twice.

  • vickey jackson

1- no I don’t think what’s grown out of our head could possibly be a fad, I think natural hair is healthier and a more beautiful way to express your true self.
2-yes, every since I’ve BC &embrace my natural hair, 4months I notice other naturals, especially being in the south,an area where natural hair is frown upon.and when I see other naturals.I actually get excited.
3-my regimen is still the same from the start of challenge. The only change is I see my hair is longer and healthier.

  • vernell lewis

Sometimes I think that some ladies are allowing natural hairstyles to be a fad… However, I think regardless to the reasons of why females are going natural, I am very excited to see our people finally embracing their natural hair!!!!

When I see other naturalistas I get sooooo excited!!! I just love it!And I realized that us natural gyals always tend to compliment our natural sisters and I love that too!!!! It’s just a great experience!!

So far I am still continuing to use castor oil and my only challenge is remaining consitant

  • http://www.facebook.com/krystina.johnson.31 Krystina Johnson

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
I do not think it is a fad because more and more women are accepting their natural texture and moving away from chemicals for health reasons. The health reasons make me believe
that woman are choosing wear their natural hair to live a healthier lifestyle instead of for the moment in fashion.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
I feel inspired and in awe of some naturalistas because their hair looks so healthy and the hair styles are so fab! I start mentally thinking how can I make sure my hair is that healthy so that one day I can achieve that look. I am also surprised when other natualistas speak to me about natural hair to tell me that my hair looks great. Sometimes I am my biggest critic but when I get those conversations I instantly feel better knowing that I am doing well in caring for my hair.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

No new goals this week. Only sealing and massaging thin areas with the JBCO, so a pretty normal week for me.

  • http://twitter.com/kdh0522 Kimberly Holston

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? I don’t think it is because we are becoming more comfortable with ourselves.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? I always want to ask what they do to their hair and how long they’ve been natural and what they’ve done that has or hasn’t worked. Sometimes I actually do ask but not always. It’s always exciting to see other naturals.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? Was a good week with no challenges. It’s been a good time.

    Good Afternoon Curlfriends/Naturalistas,
    1. I don’t think being Natural is a fad, I believe women are seeing that they can grow their on healthy hair. We can do so much with our hair, if maintaining the kinky look is a burden we can opt for a press or get a sew in. Personally for myself, this will be my lifestyle, I’m embracing my beautiful natural texture, I want my daughters who are 7 & 5 to love their hair. I think as a culture we are learning to to become aware as consumers & financial individuals. I’ve saved so much money by going natural…sure I have to gage my spending, and not be a product junkie. But in 9 mths, I’ve learned what my hair likes and I’m keeping it simple. We as women are learning I can grow my hair or buy it! It’s a choice, a process, but knowledge about the narural life leads to just more than hair, it’s a journey into understanding to accept one’s self and nuture the mind, body, spirit & soul.
    2. When I see other Naturalistas’ I smile, I give a verbal compliment & sometimes get into long conversations (my husband hates them)…LOL!!! But my mom who is deceased taught me when I was 16, “It takes a beautiful, confidant, mature woman to be able to compliment another woman, it’s a reflection of ones’ own self”.
    3. I followed through with my goals & ordered some jbco… used jbco 6x this week. Focused on my temple areas 2x, Sealed my ends 2x, oiled my scalp 2x, and took down my twist-outs with a little on my tips twice. My hair loves jbco, I think their is a true addiction going on her, My hair is SUPER soft, manageable, & most importantly not oily. I recieved more stares this week, than ever!! I had my hair trimmed about a month ago, my curls are more defined and soft, with the use of jbco. Because I have color I tend to use jbco a little more to control frizz & dryness. My challenge is the upkeep of my hair, working full time & wife, mom of 3. But if I have to stay up until midnite, I embrace it & make it my meditation time!! Ciao until next week!!

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
I hope not. I think as people with natural hair really learn and understand better how to take care of their natural hair, it will be here to stay!

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
I feel pump especially when I see others with a similar texture as mine with long healthy hair!

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

I’m doing fine. I’m still focusing on sealing with castor oil every night and not putting any on my scalp and of course, the itching has gone down considerably. I love the shine the castor oil gives my hair all day!

  • Yolanda Wells

I actually don’t think natural hair is a fad. Most people I’ve seen and know were just tired of the effects of relaxers. When I see other natural girls, I feel proud! Glad that more women are just accepting and loving thier DNA. No challenges last week. I still applied castor oil as usual, 3x’s a week.

I am not sure if it is a fad, many ppl dont get it…….. when i c other naturalistas i feel proud and most of the time it has been their lifestyle long before it was for me, and then i look back and regret relaxing my hair… and i say if i only knew about all this encouragement etc i would have been natural for almost a decade now…… i am still thankful for the chance i have now to actually start over this journey for real now

  • http://www.facebook.com/jotavia.faulk Jotavia Faulk

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? No, I think it will continue on. There are alot of sources of info on natural hair, like the youtube videos, blogs and websites. As long as we have natural women continuing to educate others, natural black hair will become as common as straight or relaxed hair.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? I like to see other naturalistas to get ideas for hair styles and it makes me happy to see other naturals.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? This week I did ok. I planned on doing another hot oil treatment but didnt get the chance to. I have been adding my oil mixture, which includes castor oil, to my hair after wash and go’s and to the ends of my hair.

  • Shanice.D

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?

To be quite honest, I believe right this moment the natural hair movement has become a “fad” in the hair world. I say this because I see that everyone is going natural without really having a motive behind their decision. Also, I believe people are so wrapped up in going natural because of having the same hair as someone big thick, loose curls etc. I believe you should go natural because you truly want to, not for a certain type of “pretty” curl pattern.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
I find it to be really amazing, especially where I come from (Toronto, ON) I don’t often see people rocking their natural curly kinky coily hair.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

I think I did pretty good last week (week 8.). I still continue to follow through with my goals. As far any challenges thus far not much.

No—A fab comes in and then goes.. Natural hair is here to stay!

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
    Pleased, excited, connected, proud…

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
    I did great, I only added a new co-wash to the regimine…

    Hello,
No I don’t think natural hair is a fab. I think a lot of American are staring to embrace our culture, and for some it is a healthier life style they want to live. I know it is for me. Now I exercise more, and I don’t have to worry about my hair. The different styles you can do with your hair without putting any heat on it. I love it I just hate I didn’t do it 7 years ago.
    2. When I see other naturals I get so excited wondering what products do they use etc…. Because someone is always asking me what I use on my hair and how can I get my hair like yours.
    3. I did very well last week follow my regime and my hair has grown do much and it even look more healthier.

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

I do feel it has become the “in” thing to where natural hair, more and more it has become acceptable publicly and professionally to where our natural born hair. Frankly it is about time. But, personally speaking I made the attempt to go natural around 5 years or so ago, but was not too successful. I made a transition from relaxers 3 years ago and it fared out to be a smoother process for me. I was much more patient and I feel like as I get to know my hair and what products work for my hair I will continue to where my hair natural and will not succumb to the relaxer again. My hair is healthier and stronger and longer now that I am natural.

I love seeing other women that wear their hair natural. It is confirmation that our hair is beautiful and we are shouting it from the roof tops.

This past week was a bit rough for me this was the only week that I think I only applied castor oil 2 times. I have averaged at least 4-5 times a week. But, I just washed with As I Am Cleansing Pudding, Leave-in-Conditioner, and twisted out my hair with the Twisting Cream and Double Butter on my ends along with JBCO. So I am happily back on track.

I think in some cases it is a fad. I have lots of friends who did it because they saw other people do it and thought it looks nice but when it isn’t easy to care for, they just say “oh, im not about this lifestyle and I don’t got that good hair”. I think the people who do it as part of a fad usually back out quickly whereas people who do it for their own reasons tend to work through the kinks. Just my opinion. When I see other naturalistas, I get excited! It’s just cool to see what different naturals do with their hair and sometimes it gives me ideas on what to do with my hair. I usually compliment them when I see them because they usually wear their hair so nicely!!! Last week went well! I kept up with the routine, which I am very proud about. My goals have been going well also, My hair is much easier to detangle since this challenge. On my wash day, I noticed that my sections were sooo much easier to detangle compared to the start of the challenge. My one challenge this week is trying not to cut my hair. I tend to be scissor happy and my ends look thin compared to the rest of my hair. I really want to cut it but I’m trying to wait until the end of the challenge before I cut them off. For now I just do minor dusting when I see fairy knots and splits. Hopefully I can make it to the end without cutting!

1.No, I don’t think natural hair is a fad. I like my natural curls but I do get discouraged @ times. 2. I like to see other natralistas! It shows how proud we are of what GOD gave us & how we were meant to be! 3. I have great this past week with my goals & hope to continue on until the end.

Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?

No, The internet and having all of these great resources has made it easier. So I can see why some think it is a fad. Having healthy hair and knowing that you can manage and style your hair in its natural state is always in.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?

I like it! It gives me inspiration for a style or being patient in my journey or an start a conversation.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

I did. I applied to my edges 3 times a week and used it on wash day and when I moisturized my hair mid week.

  • http://twitter.com/FeistyFirstLady Feisty First Lady

I don’t take it as a fad. For some it is…you know, to get attention. For me, it was for better health of my hair and an opportunity for me to gain more knowledge about problems and remedies.

When i see other Naturals, i feel like it’s not just me….Yaaaayyy!!

I couldnt find the time this week. You would think that going to cosmetology school would give me the opportunity to play in my hair…..yeah, no.

  • phil467sam

    1. I do not beieve that natural hair is a fad. I’m excited that more of us are becoming aware of our hair and ourselves.

    2. I LOVE IT when I see natural sisters! Those that I can tell have embraced their roots. I sit and wonder what their routine is and what products they are using. Especially if its dry or frizzy. ;) I can’t say much since I’m still transitioning

    3. This week was a little different. I usually wash on Saturdays and add gel to mold it up so that I can wear my afro puff, but instead because I didn’t want to to have so much gook in my hair for the week I just wore a hat when I needed to go out. I believe that it was a benefit. I’m not sure how I will do when its over with length since I’m actually transitioning, but at least it will be HEALTHY!!

  • Lovey

-Fad – Not for me…and I pray the same is true for others.
-Other naturalistas – I absolutely notice and appreciate other naturalistas.
-Progress – I’m a WNG Diva, my routine doesn’t change. It’s working for me, I’m pleased with my results and progress and see no reason to make changes.

  • kinkykw

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
For me it’s what’s healthy for my hair but for some people I think it is a fad but for others their hair may not be strong enough for a perm.
    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
I feel good about seeing my sistas wearing their natural hair and not being ashamed of who they are how they were made to be because we are beautiful indeed.
    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far
I did great last week and my hair has really grown a lot I haven’t had any challenges so far no more than trying to find a product to give me more definition.

  • amtate

I honestly don’t think natural hair is a fad. I say this because of myself and the people that I know that are naturals it has become such a part of our lifestyles that its not something that you just pick up and put down. I feel proud and a sense of unity when I see other naturals b/c I know that we share a common bond. i also feel curious because I don’t want to assume their journey is the same as mine and I want to hear what their journey is. I didn’t do as well this week on my goals – basically b/c i was being lazy!!! My daughter had my castor oil in her bathroom and I put it on my scalp, roots and edges at night right before bed. Each night i would get ready to go to bed and would realize that my oil is allllllllllllllll the way down the hall – so i would just say forget it! LOL Gotta do better this week!

  • Monica Hicks

    1. I don’t think natural hair is a fad but I do feel there are a lot of woman who end up going back to relaxers for a lack of knowledge, help or just plain patience. I work at a BSS where I see lots of woman “going natural” and I try to offer them as much help as I can. I see some who do it simple for a look versus others who want healthier hair. There is so much right and wrong information on the internet that it can be confusing to the newly natural. The more woman I meet and ask them about their hair the more encouraged I become to hang on and let my hair do its own thing.

    2. I LOVE, L-O-V-E, LOVE other naturalistas!!! I love hair period but there is nothing more exciting than looking at beautiful locs. Whether are long or short, colored or whatever. It is just pure joy for me to see woman take such pride in their own hair.

    3. I did very well this week. I used my black castor oil daily and I am seeing results.

  • http://www.facebook.com/sharon.smith.3511041 Sharon Smith

    1. No, I don’t think its a fad. Women and me are discovering and embracing their natural kinks. More information is out about the cause and effects of using relaxers in our hair. The hair care industry is spending millions to attract us to their products, thus giving us want we want in a product or not in a product. The mainstream population is starting to see our hair for what it is, beautiful. For those of us who want healthy hair more than just long hair, we are in it, to win it!
2.Naturalist are some of the nicest people! I have had the pleasure of meeting others in the super markets, malls, gas stations, etc you name it. We all have embraced this natural walk for whatever reason and willing to share and compliment one another. I have been encouraged and given encouragement. Offered tips and given a few myself. All in all, its wonderful to have and meet others on this amazing journey.
3.This week everything is going great! I stepped it up a little and gave myself a hot oil treatment using the castor oil. My hair felt great! Detangling seemed much easier and hardly any shedding. still working on my edges and the crown of my head, and seeing results. Loving this challenge! I’ll be doing this even after the challenge is over, its become part of my routine.

  • Ebony Smith

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?

For some it will be but for me it will be apart of my lifestyle.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?

Excited knowing everyone is confident enough to be who they were born to be.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

Did great last week. I continued my routine.

  • newtonaturalhair

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
Actually i believe as long as your hair is chemical free, it can be whatever style you choose to feel comfortable with. It your image, remember that!!!!!

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
I feel motivated and libeated to see my african american sisters taking a stand for healthier hair. That is what made me decided to become a natural. CONFIDENT BLACK WOMEN!!!!

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I use castor oil as a sealer, scalp treatment, with my deep conditoner and as a leave in treatment as well. so you say i use castor oil every chance i got. No goals besides length and that takes patience but at the moment just enjoying the journey. I am in need of thoughts for protecting my twa for the winter. Any suggestions Ladies???

  • http://www.facebook.com/kimberly.palmer2 Kimberly Palmer

1.I dont think it is a fad as I see many people adopting a more “natural lifestyle” with their bodies as well as hair. More Black sisters are working out, running, juicing, eating clean, vegan, as well as raw. I see natural hair as fitting into this shift towards loving and embracing our ourselves.

    2. I am transitioning, so I feel encouraged whenever I see a naturalista. I realize that I can go through this journey and have beautiful hair that it is not processed.

    3. Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I continued with using cold pressed castor oil on my edges 3x a week as well as a small amount on my scalp.

No I don’t believe natural hair is a fad. I believe that it is a way of life. When I see other naturals I feel some sort of sisterhood. I know it sounds crazy. I followed my usual routine last week & will try to get more aggressive this week.

  • Ella hicks

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? No, I think its more accepted in society then previous decades.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? Indifferent

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I’m maintaining my goals and look forward to joining the next challenge.

  • Katrina Merkerson

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? No, I think it is a movement! So many women have chosen to go natural and understand more now that if they want to go back to straight hair they can purchase it! Lol

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? When I see other naturalistas I feel empowered! Natural hair is so beautiful and to see others embracing who they are is awesome.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did good last week focusing on my scalp and ends.

    1. From all the posts I’ve read, I don’t think natural hair is a fad but a preference. However, it is definitely new for me. Had I not been transitioning I think I could appreciate it more. It’s definitely tough but I’m hanging in there.

  • http://www.facebook.com/melanie.robinson.7311 Melanie Robinson

    1. Thats tricky so I guess my answer
Would be yes and no. For the chicks who on a whim decide to go natural and then after a six month transition decide its to much work and perm their hair that’s a fad. For me it was a well thought out and research year long plan.2 when I see other naturals I am proud to be counted amongst them seriously. I love seeing g it. This week was tough didn’t do as good as I wanted to but tomorrow is a brand new day with no mistakes..

  • chakkia gayle

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? I think its a fad for some people….Alot of people dont take the time to learn about their natural hair…But for most of us its not a fad at all…we actually take our time and learn about our natural roots and want to become natural for more healthier hair.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? I love seeing other naturalistas…There are soooo many hair types and each person is different and I notice it more now because Im natural…Im definitely seeing more and more naturalistas on tv

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? Yeah i am following through with my goals and everyone notices how thicker and longer my hair is getting…Even after the challenge my new staple hair product will definitely be JBCO….but I think next i will try the coconut one…I know my hair loves coconut oil

  • MyraElise

    1. No I don’t feel hair is fad however it can be for some people.
    2. When I see other naturals I feel more motivated to stay natural and grow my hair out cause seeing other people going through what you are makes you have a sense of hope.
    3. I am doing good but been so busy with school I sometimes forget to apply the castor oil to my scalp however my hair is progressing in length it is just about bra strap length

  • NatashaP

    1. I don’t think natural hair as a whole is a fad. Some of the more popular styling techniques and products may come and go, but I think embracing the versatility of our kinky/curly/coily manes is here to stay.

    2. I love seeing naturalistas out and about and I compliment fierce hair whenever possible. Unexpected genuine compliments always make my day and I LOVE paying that forward.

    3. I did well last week. I got a sew in as a protective style last week and I have been diligently applying castor oil to my edges and scalp. I’m trying to ensure my head and hair stays happy for as long as I keep the sew in :-)

  • Ladynappy

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? No, and more and more people are going natural for healthier hair.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
Great! I am always checking out their styles seeing if I can copycat a style
    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
Continuing to focus on my edges and nape, scalp at least 3-4x’s a week with castor oil/olive oil, leave in condish. After long days and trainings sometimes you wish for the ease of a relaxer but then I realize how far I’ve come without one.

  • Cheryl D

    1. I don’t feel that this is a fad. I definitely am going natural for the long haul. 2. I do wish my hair was longer. I love the twist out styles and get a little jealous when I see a sistah rockin a huge, crazy coily, kinky, twist out. I am in transition and have about an inch of hair that is still straight from having a perm; not ready to cut it all out just yet. 3. Sticking to my routine – Shea Moisture Product Line, JBCO 3x a week and deep condition on the weekend with a co-wash thrown in as needed.

  • http://twitter.com/1BoldBella Bold Bella

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
I don’t. I don’t see the trend ever reversing. Its too freeing and wonderful. The bad natural hair days are far better than bad perm days. :)
    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
I love it! I got a nod from a lady the other day. People are embracing it! At my church, in social circles, its a wonderful thing.
    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I actually took a break last week, because I applied the JBCO every day the week before.

  • Kinky Kurly Kat

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
I don’t believe natural hair is a fad I think that with the wide spread PHENOMENON women are quickly taking the plunge because of all of the support, friends/family doing it and the vast amount of knowledge. We as African American women now see we have another option besides weaves, braids and relaxers and it’s becoming more acceptable and noticeable. We naturals are everywhere!!!
    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
I LOVE it!!! Makes me feel like proud to see another sister embarking in their journey regardless of what others may thing. Always a great conversation starter unless you run into a snob.
    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

No challenges this week applying JBCO daily two times a day I also started incorporating the Greenhouse Effect at night. My hair is UBER & SUPER soft in the AM!!!

  • Banika

I dont thk so everywhere u look u see a natural even on tv shows n commercials.

I get excited whn i see another natural it inspires me to keep going forward with my natural.

    Same as week 8.

  • missdaniciahumphrey

For those who are committed to being naturals I wouldn’t say that natural hair is a fad. However to those who are into being part of the “IT” factor, this could easily be considered as a fashion fad, because they are basically whissy washy. Honestly when I see others who have natural hair, I don’t view them differently than I would an individual who has relaxed hair. In my point of view we are free to treat our hair whichever way pleases us. Currently I have my hair styled in a crochet set, which has been in for about two weeks. But before I crocheted my hair I used the JBCO in a pre poo and used it in a
deep condish treatment. Since the I’ve been using it around the temple and nape
area as well as in between my parts.

  • Cassandra Burrows

I just took out my kinky twists after 7 weeks and I’m in love with my hair once again!
In a way it is a fad because everyone is doing it and I see it more and more these days.
I love seeing other naturalistas. I wanna give them a high five and say you go girl but I can’t do that with everyone lol.
I had run out of my JBCO for about a week but just got a new one I had to order online so now I’m back track. I apply every night to my edges. And I also added alittle to my other oil mixture that I spritz on my entire head. No ther challenges.

  • Alyssa

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
    – I think it’s a fad for some of the stars who aren’t looking for a healthier way to handle their hair. Otherwise, it’s an awesome awareness that everyone is realizing & I’m happy for it.
    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
    – Great! I always share a secret smile with any naturalista I encounter & of course we talk as though we’re long lost pals no matter the age difference.
    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
    – Well, um ya see…I wasn’t consistent this week….at allactually decided to cut down my castor oil to once a week instead of 3 times a week considering my hair’s growing a lot faster than I want it to right now…never thought I would say THAT!

  • http://www.facebook.com/naturally.kesha Natural Kesha

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
Yes its a fad because it has gone mainstream. There are celebs who aren’t natural but wear the “natural” look. Also you have celebs posting pics of their “natural hair” even tho they wear wigs/weaves. Natural hair is in commercials, on tv shows, etc. For my own hair it’s not a fad because I didn’t go natural because its in. I went natural as a healthier way to care for my hair.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
I want to meet them & start chatting about hair lol

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did fine last week with no challenges

  • http://www.facebook.com/mssheree14 Essence Brooks

To me natural hair is not a fad but a personal choice. It may be a fad to some people so I guess it all depends on the individual. Seeing other naturalistas is a good feeling. Even though you may not know the person there is s bond that is shared. I still continue to apply the castor oil to my edges as planned but to be honest last week I only applied it twice instead of three which is what I normally do.

  • mrskt20

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? Yes, I think natural hair maybe a fad. I just hope it’s not a fad for me. I want to learn how to manage my natural hair for life.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? I mostly feel proud that so many people r Welling to step away from the norm and embrace their natural beauty.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I sort of slacked off last week. I only oiled my scalp and braids like 3 times. I plan to step things up a notch these next couple of weeks.

    1. No..I don’t think it’s a fad. I think it’s something that will stay for awhile.
    2. When I see other natural ladies, I get all proud and giddy inside. I love talking to them about their hair and exchanging ideas and tips. It’s like a sorority, we have a special bond..sisterhood. So heeeeeey sorors!!
    3. I didn’t do to well last week, but I will this week. I just bought the As I Am line, so I will be using castor oil with that stuff and see how it does.

  • Chiquita

Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? I do not think that natural hair is a fad. For me, it was not something that I thought about because the creamy crack was frying my brain cells (lol-out of sight, out of mind). When I begin to go so long without getting a relaxer that’s when I noticed that my hair was thicker and maybe I should just try this “natural thang” THEN I noticed that everyone around me was already natural or in the process…..

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? In aww of their hair and I can’t wait for mines to get to that length so I can dibble and dabble too :)

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did good last week with my co-washes and I did follow through on my goals–I plan on getting some kinky twists for the winter months though.

  • http://www.facebook.com/reneeasamoah Renee Opoku Asamoah

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
I think that being natural is a fad, most people are doing it because someone else that they knew did it rather than doing it for themselves.
    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
I like seeing other naturals, it is very exciting.
    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
Last week I applied the oil only twice rather than doing it each day. So I did not follow through with my goals sadly :( I have been ridiculously busy and I haven’t kept the oil in my schedule! :(

  • MsFabulous13

I don’t think that natural hair is a fad for me. It is a way of life…a healthy journey!!! I think that some may try it and find that it’s too much work for them, or that its socially unacceptable for them. We all have to walk our own path. As for me, I love it! As it grows, I am interested in seeing what it will do. This is my journey.

When I see other naturalistas, there’s a sisterly bond, acknowledged by a smile…I thinks again, we are all on a journey. Where we see a reflection of ourselves, there’s peace. I love it! I also love that others who may be thinking about going natural approach me to ask how did I do it or what products should they use. We teach by being that example. It’s an amazing experience.

I am still maintaining my goal of applying the castor oil 3xs per week. Sometimes I do it daily…I haven’t had any challenges this week.

  • Jcb3wg

1.do you feel being natural is a fad? I don’t know that remains to be seen I really don’t care I mean I think we are focusing the wrong things. Fad or not! Lets say it is a fad……what a great fad. Whe I started to see more naturals it gave me the strength to step out and do it too. But it wasn’t just about hair it was about sooo many other things and I think that rings true for a lot of people that have become natural. Honestly the whole movement fad whatever has caused me to reflect on things I was suppressing. Things like confidence self acceptance love whew the list goes on! I said all that to say this……fad or not it was changed a lot of black women in a positive way myself included.
2.How do u feel when u see other naturalistas?i feel empowered I love seeing how we r wearing our hair and with what outfit or hair accessories ect.
    3. How did you do last week (week 7)? Did you follow through with your goals? I did good!

  • dori

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? I do not believe natural hair is a fad, I think it’s a healthy way for a person to maintain the hair and embrace who they are.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? I ,myself, have a relaxer , however when I see sistas rocking a natural, it wonder what made them decide to abandon chemicals and how do they take care of their hair…,however it makes me feel good that they are deciding to embrace their original texture .

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I followed through with my regular regime , of treating my edges and massaging my scalp with castor oil.I haven’t had any challenges

  • LoclessinBmore

Hello Ladies! I most certainly do not feel like natural hair is a fad. I have seen many sistars on my job begin to embrace their hair in it’s natural state. I have been natural since 1996, I was the first and soon all of my friends have followed suit and have not converted back. Since becoming civilized many women have seen the benefits to being natural and have recognized the growth and new found healthiness to their hair. I LOVE SEEING OTHER NATURALISTAS, especially the teens, seeing as how they are the trend setters. No challenges last week. I can’t wait to get my winter challenge on!

  • http://www.facebook.com/ashley.n.robinson.71 Ashley Nicole Robinson

    1. I think natural hair is a fad for certain people, but for true naturalistas it’s not a fad, but a movement to embrace our hair the way that it was given to each of us and to enjoy the versatility that our kinks, curls, and coils bring. 2. Whenever I run into someone else that is natural, I automatically end up conversing with them about our hair. I am always excited to see another natural sista! 3. I’m still doing well in this challenge. I have been doing my castor and coconut hot oil treatments and massaging castor oil into my scalp and edges.

  • Danielle Thibeadeaux

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?

I don’t think it’s a fad because most people are seeing the benefits and the tremendous amount of growth you can get from being natural and I don’t think that once people go natural they will revert back.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?

I feel inspired and I feel like I need to ask them so many questions about what they do what products they like and just so advice that I may not have heard before

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

Last week went well I have been doing my hot oil treatments and I’ve been sealing my hair! But. I actually decided to blow dry it and it came out very fluffy and had a lot of movement(which I love!) and then I braided it to keep it in a low manipulation state :) all in all good week!

Sorry for the delay I was so busy yesterday, i did not have time to answer the questions. Hope it is not too late
    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
I don’t think it is a fad, I think it is a proof to show where ur from and people can learn to see u as a natural women. the same way our ancestors were in their time.
    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
I feel proud to see a lot of people are becoming natural now.
    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

I used it the same way as the week before in my spray with water and conditioner every evening to do my twist and on Saturday in my prepoo

  • Denise Gadson

    1. Sometimes I think that being natural is a fad because people will try it out, get impatient, and go back to a relaxer or whatever their routine was before trying out being natural.

    2. It depends upon the naturalista. I seriously get jealous of most that have what looks like healthiest, longest, prettiest hair- regardless of hair type. My goal is to be able to put my hair up in a highbbun because I think it is such a classy look. And its easy too! :-)

    3. This week was pretty good. I used the actual oil outside of the spritz about three times. Mainly used it on my edges. The only challenge I face is trying to stretch out my protective styles.

  • http://www.facebook.com/SabrinaBoissiere Sabrina Boissiere

    1. I do think for some it is a fab. They see celebs with it, in ads and want the look but then reality sets in. They don’t have that ‘good hair’ texture or its too much work so they return to relaxers. Those are the ones we don’t want in the natualista community! Lol… I see younger eomen embracing it and really learning there hair. I can never say that I will not return to relaxed hair but it won’t be because I don’t love my kinky self.
    2. Funny I see other naturals and either we smile, nod or compliment each other or I see the ones quite frankly that have just given up or use natural as an excuse to have dry, unkept hair! Usual they look at my hair with envy (just saying!). I find myself wanting to give advice on using JBCO on anyone with broken off/balded edges, but I refrain… Sometimes I want to just say go to KCCM on FB or YT! LOL
    3. I have continued to use the Castor Oil in my weekly DC w/ SM masque and I use the JBCO to seal hair in LOC method (even though I read somewhere only coconut oil can truly be the O in LOC as it penetrates the hair shaft – whateva; JBCO works for me). And I use JBCO for edges and every other day like grease for scalp. It is going well and I’m happy I have a routine that works for me that incorporates JBCO which promotes growth!!!

    • jcb3wg

omg i feel you on the JBCO advice for the bald edges but i dont say nothing either we dead WRONG FA DAT!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001620724381 Kandis Richardson

    1. No, because many black women have been natural for years. More people are just getting “hip” to it because there are more styles, products and education about it.
    2. I find myself staring at their hair to see if it’s a style I can duplicate in my own way on my own hair.3. I did fine last week.

  • http://naturallystellar.wordpress.com/ NaturallyStellar

    1. No, for as long as kinks & coils grow out of our scalps, there will always be natural hair. I would hope nobody’s trying this as a fad. That’s kind of lame.

    2. I used to take notice, but now there’s so many of us rockin our hair in our natural state that I almost don’t take notice now, unless someone has a really fly hairstyle. But other than that, I’m proud that we’re embracing & loving who we are as people.

    3. I did good last week. I set a goal to do a long term protective style, but I have yet to do it. Probably the only way I’ll get moving is to set an appointment to get my hair braided this week.

  • Tawnee001

    1. For me, it isn’t a fad. It’s definitely a lifestyle change. I do notice that a lot of women are “hopping on” because they see a lot of other people doing it. Whether it is a fad or not, I’m just glad to see so many people embracing their natural texture. I’m not anti-relaxer or anti-weave either. So, if a woman wants to do those things that’s her prerogative. It’s certainly not a fad for me though.

    2. It doesn’t faze me one way or the other actually. A person’s hair doesn’t make them. Granted, I do seem to have many friends who are natural, but I think it’s just because I tend to connect with people who are conscious and well-rounded, which usually includes people who embrace every bit of who they are. I’ve received some side eyes from natural girls though. So just because they are natural, I don’t expect them to flock to me with open arms. On the other hand, I’ve had a few natural ladies (and non naturals) approach me and ask me hair questions. I love this actually. Scratch me saying it doesn’t faze me. I like seeing natural beauties. :)

    3. I did wonderful last week and I am still stuck to the program. I can’t wait to do my comparison shot at the end of the challenge. The time is flying by!

  • Kaila P

I don’t think , recently where I live (SKB) I’ve seen many women chop off their hair and dye it so I don’t know if they’re just doing it as a style or not I hope not. But I think it’s absolutely great how we can learn to love what we have because God doesn’t make mistakes.

Especially here in St. Kitts it warms my heart because we’re still deep in the “good hair, bad hair, you need a relaxer” stage . But anytime I see a naturalista anywhere I always complement them, mostly cuz the just look good lol

No challenges so far, I’ve been consistent I’ve had in a protective style and I’m gonna take it out next week I’m excited to see my growth

  • hbrighth

    1. No I do not think natural hair is a fad. I thought that natural hair was super cute. But I chose to go natural because it was cheaper, healthier and my hair was not really growing.
    2. I get excited when I see other naturalistas. I do not act crazy and try to not ask a million questions because I think it is too months.
    3. I did great last week. I did just about everything I needed to do because I didn’t have a long wear protect style.

Side note what are some protective styles that you can do on medium length hair? When I do twist and styles with them since it take so much time to put them in I want to keep them in for more than a week usually. I need other styles to do.

  • Shekeya

    1. No, I do not think that natural hair is a fad. To me a fad is something that takes place because people are doing things solely because someone else is doing it and eventually it will cease. I know that I chose to go natural because of MY feelings, thoughts, and beliefs and not because of what the next person was doing it.

    2. I love when I see other naturalistas because every person is unique which means her hair is unique and it just shows the versatility of OUR hair, NATURAL hair!!

    3. I followed thru with my goals focusing on my edges and scalp and I didn’t have any challenges last week.

  • Brittany

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?

At first I did because when I first became natural there was not a lot of information on how to take care of natural hair or the different styles that people can wear but now that there is so much help and information I feel like people are enjoying their hair and are more open to keeping it that way because they find that it is healthier instead of trying to follow society’s expectations.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
    I enjoy seeing other naturals.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? Last week I did good. I was actually planning on braiding my hair but then I did a cute style with a high bun and I kept it that way.

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? no it is sooo in its just hard to do sometimes you got to have patience…….2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? at first i was like her hair looks wild and then when i started reading up on natural hair because my hair got thinner from perms i learned to love it and became a naturalista and now i be like people have pretty thick hair…………3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? yes i oiled my hair with castor oil and olive oil daily, i put jbco on my scalp 2 times this week, i overnight bagged my hair with jbco and wore a protective bun the whole time

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
I think it is definitely a fad for some people. Right now most people became natural because it is the thing to do at this point in time (myself included). The difference with me is that I fell in love with my curls and I will NEVER go back to the creamy crack.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
I honestly get really excited about thier “style” and proud inside that other women are strong enough to rock what God gave them.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did pretty good last week. Applied oil to my hair four times. I did follow through with my goals and no challenges right now.

    • http://www.facebook.com/cdbmj Courtney D James

I love your first answer! Natural hair being a fad is NOT a bad thing! It’s just that through this “fad” it allowed us the patience to gain the knowledge of our own tresses! So many women study and study weaves, relaxers, and aesthetics in SCHOOL! lol Why can’t we study our natural hair! Not many newly naturals want to admit that they became natural because it was the right thing for them to do NOW while they had the support and/or courage through the media and their surrounding environment!!! *two thumbs up* ^_^

  • Jennifer

    Hey ladies,
    1) I think natural hair for some is a fad. I think alot of woman do it because they see the texture and the many different looks that can be achieved. I think that once all of the hype dies down from essence magazine and other popular cites some woman will go back to getting relaxers and texturizers. For me, I have been natural since 1999 which is well before the rave started and I will continue my natural journey once it ends for others.
    2) I love seeing other natural girls, it actually makes me smile. Feels good to see other woman love the hair that they were blessed with. :-)
    3) Last week was a VERY big struggle for me because I had an allergic reaction from pomegranate which affected my face, neck and scalp. So from all of the swelling, itching and burning, it has been hard to put anything on my scalp. I am hoping that the castor oil help the dry scalp that I have now. My face, neck and scalp are extremely dry now that its starting to heal.

  • http://www.facebook.com/shaunda.nay Shaunda Nay

    1. I don’t think natural hair is a fad, I think as black women become more educated and more empowered in themselves that they are going to embrace their natural look and that it will become more acceptable is society.
    2. I’m so happy when i see other naturalistas. I feel connected to them and that we share a common bond.
    3. Week 8 went ok, but i do think I am using too much oil/product in my hair which is leading to product build up. My scalp has been getting dry and i think that is why. so today i did an ACV rinse and i think that is going to help. i’m defintely going to add that to my weekly regime and see how that goes. My hair is definitely growing! i’m so excited and can’t wait for the final length check.

Natural hair is a fad to some and to others it’s a life still. I consider it a journey for me. Natural hair has been a Segway in my journey to embrace who I am.

I love seeing other woman with natural hair. It has made my journey all the more comfortable. Ive notice that there is a connection between natural women. Whenever I encounter another natural we often make quick conversation about our hair whether its a compliment or sharing tips and product suggestions.

I’m still going strong with the challenge. I’m getting my hair straightened for my bday this week and I am a bit concerned about the oil being to heavy. But I will find out soon.

  • FireMama_x3

    1. i do think natural hair is a fad, but since it’s natural it’s not that big of deal to me. it def seems to be the “in” thing to do…but i’m sure we all have our reasons.
    2. it generally makes me smile. unless their hair looks a mess, then i think “see that’s not how i want my hair to look.” i saw lots of busted natural hair when i was transitioning and made me more hesitant!
    3. i missed my goal of co-washing 3x, but other than that all went well.

  • http://www.facebook.com/tracee.thomas.16 Tracee Thomas

    1. I don’t think being natural is a fad more than it is a change in lifestyle. At least for me it is. As I transition I feel freer and freer the more perm I trim off my ends. I’m still not ready for a twa! =)
    2. When I see other naturalistas I feel a bond, a sisterhood if you will. If I’m in the store I will acknowledge her and she will me. If I’m in a setting where there are others we have a conversation about our hair. At work, I talk to my coworkers about what I do and what I’m looking to try. I also give advice that I have learned over my journey.
    3. I wore a flat twist out last week and I retwisted every night. I massaged my castor oil and other oils into my scalp and sealed with it as well. No new challanges, still moving forward!

  • http://www.facebook.com/aoyewole2586 Alwina Oyewoleturner

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? I don’t think natural hair is a fad. Women have been wearing their hair natural for a long time, heat damage or not. Before my mom passed, she rocked a short little afro. Now that I think back, I wonder why she didn’t encourage me to go natural. :-( But the good thing was, she didn’t consistently put the relaxer on my hair. Yay!!! I had braids and other hair styles to keep me busy. I love my hair! Even as I got older, I would stretch my touch-ups. So I believe natural hair is not a fad, because at some point we embrace it, whether we are stretching between relaxers or decide to completely go natural. It’s only gained momentum because everyone is discovering it. But it’s always been here. The women that can’t handle will go back to what’s easy for them and that’s fine because it’s their hair. Each woman shall do what she deems best for her hair and lifestyle.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? I feel great, even if I don’t speak with them, there is this mutual respect and camaraderie. I’ve even made new friends in random places because it’s something we have in common. It’s great to see women come together for something so personal to the individual.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I continued to massage my scalp and edges every night. I used JBCO in my kimmaytube leave-in as usual and I pre-pooed (finally!) with JBCO after a semi-quick finger detangle on dry hair. I’m reminded why I don’t finger detangle. O_o No challenges; just understanding and learning my hair. I also noticed I had less breakage than usual, which could be due to the finger detangle. There must be another way…finger detangling is too much!!! lol

    1. I don’t think natural hair is a fad. I just think it is sdtarting to gain a lot more popularity.
    2. I am always happy when I see other naturalisttas it keeps me encouraged and the motivation i get from other naturals keeps me going when i get discouraged. I am honestly happy that I finally made the change after so many years of thinking about it.
    3. I have been slacking for the last 3 weeks are so I am under so much stres with school and work also trying to get my son to vegas for a football tournament that my hair has been neglected, ladies i need encouragement

  • http://www.facebook.com/helen.henton.58 Helen Henton

No I don’t think its a fad. I actually believd that had our people before us been thought to love and appreciate thier beauty then things would be different. Because we were shown as a people that being nappy headed and have tightly coild hair was ugly and not approved of by society. So no its not a fad we as a people have grown and educated ourselves on natural hair and the proper care of natural hair.
When i see others that are natural I dont really feel a certain way because there are so many now a days that its rare that i see some one who’s relaxed. I see people for who they are not thier appearance.
Nothing new this week, 4 nights of massage 1 night of oil treatment 1 night of henna….that’s all folk.

    • http://www.facebook.com/helen.henton.58 Helen Henton

i do love that here are so many who choose to be natural and healthy and also that they love themselves enough to be natural

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
I do not think my hair is a fad. I love it and it loves me sometimes. Well it loves me when i take care of it.
    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?

I’m really excited for some reason when i see other naturalistas walking proudly with their gorgeous kinks, coils and curls. And dont let them ask me a question, i’m so ready to compliment them on their hair or give them some tips on dry or low porosity hair.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

Well I did not seal 3 days a week like i was supposed to, this is due to the fact that i’m getting ready to go to africa on a counseling/mission trip and i’ve been researching, geting shots (dr. visits), work hours have picked up etc. also I straightened my hair and only put jbco on my edges 4 x last week and my scalp on 2x last week. I will not be using JBCO for a week in a half that i’m gone. SAD FACE……..I will also have senegalese twist in my hair.

  • Shakir

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or Why not?

I have mixed feelings about this. For some people I think natural hair maybe a fad. However, for me it is not. I believe that some feel this way because they see a lot of women embracing their natural hair. But when you look back at history there was a period of time when natural hair was the thing especially during the civil rights movement. Then women started to go back to the creamy crack. However, I hope that women will see the versatility in their natural hair and continue to embrace it as years continue to pass.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?

I feel empowered. I feel that I am not in this alone. I feel inspired. I feel a sense of pride. Whenever I see other naturalistas I feel overwhelmed with positive feeling emotions.

    3. This week I did good with my regime. I just recently got braids (yesterday) and am wondering how I can alter my regime because of the braids. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I needed to give my hair a styling rest for a little while.

  • http://www.facebook.com/mwareskinner Michelle Ware Skinner

    1. I don’t think natural hair is a fad. I think we are learning more about the dangers of chemicals and opting for a healthier lifestyle, which includes natural hair. I have noticed that African American women with natural hair are everywhere on TV now, especially commercials. I love that.
    2. I notice other naturals all the time. I enjoy seeing the different hair styles. I really like to see them in mainstream America.
    3. I did well last week. I love the way my hair responds to hot oil treatments using castor oil. I plan to keep that as part of my regimen even after the challenge is over. I also started using Strong Roots on wash day. It contains JBCO plus some other stuff. It says to leave it on 20 minutes before washing it out. I left it on a couple of hours. My scalp was a little sore when I shampooed. I don’t know if I will use it again. My only challenge is that my hair has grown out quite a bit and I no longer have a tapered twa. It is not long enough to wear in any other style though. I almost want to cut it back off.

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? No, I think the woman today are ready to embrace their natural state

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? I normally ask them what are they using

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did wonderful last week and I stuck to my goals

Q1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
    A. For me, my natural hair is here to stay. But as for others, only time will tell. Some people see the glass as half empty, simply because they are constantly taking from it with the promise to fill it tomorrow. But, if you are putting the effort into it, or adding to the glass, it’s half full and your own your way to making your hair journey apart of your lifestyle.

Q2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
    A. It makes me smile! I usually compliment them on there hair, especially if they are in the TWA phase, to let them know that the change they have made for themselves will equal out to a healthier person (mentally and physically). In time, uncertainty will fade and confidence will be left behind.

Q3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
    A. I still moisturize daily with a mix of grape seed, castor, and sweet almond oil, but I have had to cut back on my scalp massages because it is extremely difficult to do through my flat twists. However, I do give myself a scalp massage 2 – 3x a week, instead of every other day, as in the beginning.

  • Curls and Mo

    1. No. Although, it is
really “cool” to be different and stand out – which natural hair helps you
achieve – now that more of the health benefits are being brought to the
forefront it’s not a fad. More people (not just women) are looking at being
natural as a lifestyle and have incorporated health into areas of their lives
other than hair. It’s really amazing.
    2. I love it! There’s
automatically a common bond between us and more often than not we will stop to
discuss our current regimen and products. It’s always (usually – lol) love.
    3. I’m still doing well with the challenge, I’ve
been following through with all of my goals and this week there haven’t been
any challenges. I’m so proud of all of us. I can’t believe I’ve stayed with it.
It’s been rough but I’ve gotten into a routine now. They say that in order for
something to become a habit you have to do it for 28 consecutive days so we are
all well past that point. In fact, I can see myself continuing with it even
after the Fall Challenge is done.

    1. I honestly don’t think natural hair is a fad here especially in NYC. I think it is a movement, many women are starting to embrace their kinks and coils and i’m loving it! I never thought I would see the day Executives and CEOs rocking afros to work.
2.I get so excited when I see other naturals because I can conversate with them about their regimen and what products they use.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did horrible last week. The plan was to maintain my scalp while in teh senegalese twists by oiling my scalp with the castor oil daily and continuing my massages. However, I never quite got around to it…………….

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
To me, I don’t think my hair is a fad. I think its more of a discovery. It’s so very important for me. it was like finding a hidden beauty about myself that was not revealed to me. I know that I will never go back to perms or relaxers. I’m so over that and I feel that my hair makes me healthier. It’s funny because if you look around, women who are natural start to look at not only their hair but what they eat and also exercise as well.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
When I see other naturalistas, it makes me feel that I’m not the only one who got the memo and I feel that I am not alone. I love being natural and I love seeing other women. It’s also funny because when I look into another naturalistas face, we both kinda smirk at each other like we know the secret….we know that our hair is beautiful and we both share that thought….

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
Last week was difficult for me but I was able to use a spritz/moisturizer with castor oil about twice during the week. This week, I plan to try and use it everyday.

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? I think a lot of women are natural because that’s the thing to do. I became natural for health reasons. I suffer with alopecia areata and the chemicals were not agreeing with my scalp. It was horrible!!! So in an effort to get healthy, full hair, I eliminated the chemicals.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? I love seeing other naturalistas!!! Fad or not — I make it appoint to compliment the pretties!!!

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did well/ My hair is oily so I have to be careful with how much oil I put in it. However, I will be joining the winter challenge :)

  • Kandy O.

    1. I think that some people view natural hair as a fad (mostly those who aren’t natural). I’ve spoken to and heard people who feel that b/c so many are going natural at the same time and b/c there are celebrities doing it, they feel its just something that is temporarily popular. For some that may be the case, but I know for me it is NOT! I made a educated decision to go natural, I did it when I was ready and I did it b/c I wanted to.

    2. I always love to see other naturals when I’m out and about. In fact, this past weekend I was at a local produce market and saw a teenager with a big, beautiful head of hair and complimented her. But that’s how I am, if I see a nice hair style (natural OR relaxed), I tell the person, I don’t discriminate:o)

    3. I did much better last week. I applied my JBCO 3xs. I’m really enjoying this challenge!

    1. I think natural hair could be a fad for some. I think in the last year or so I’ve seen a lot more naturals and I think in some ways it could be considered a “trend”. I have already seen quite a few naturals go back to relaxer. For some it’s a life commitment, for others it is a fad (at least that’s my take on it).
    2. I love to see other naturals. It makes me feel like we don’t all fall into the hype that you have to have long, silky hair running down your back to be beautiful. It’s great to see others sisters embracing their natural hair.
    3. I only applied my jbco once last week. I’ve been in the process of packing (moving tomorrow) and my hair has not been a priority). On my last wash day I massaged it onto my scalp and sealed my ends with it and that was it for the week. All my oils are packed up no so I won’t be reapplying again until I’ve unpacked. :(

1.Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?

Yes, I believe companies are taking advantage and gaining
larger profits because everyone seems to be natural now.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?

I want to stop them, so that we can talk about hair. lol

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through
with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

I did pretty good last week I made one change of using
castor to braid out my hair.

  • pam

    1. I think it depends on the individual. I decided I was just tried of the chemical in my hair. I wanted to be able to workout without always worrying about sweating out my hair. I made a decision to embrace my natural hair. Wished I did this some years ago. I actually enjoying being natural.

    2. I do pay attention and love they have embraced their natural hair. I think its a beautiful thing.

    3. I continue to follow my regimen. My challenge now is that my hair is in the TWA stage still. It’s extremely thick but not long enough to do anything else with. But happy and content just the same.

  • Jean

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?I hope not. I see more and more women embracing there natural hair including me. I love my natural hair

  • Jae

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? No, I do not think it is a fad as I base my information on my family, friends and co-workers, that I have known to be natural for years. It’s normal and not a big deal as far as acceptance.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? I love seeing all my beautiful sisters whether they are natural or not, but naturals wherever I go, always brings a smile to my face.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? Last week, I missed a few days but did give my hair extra attention when I found the time. No challenges.

  • Mikeal C

ice1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? – No, simply bc i dont think it will be short lived “movement” , however i do not ALOTTTTTT more people becoming natural.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? – i feel like someone understands me ! LOL. But really bc so many of us are obsessed with silky straight hair and it feels good to know someone else embraces their natural hair like me.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? – last week i did wash and go’s for the first time. LOVEEEE EM ! i still oiled my scalp every other day. no challenges.

Rather or not natural hair is a fad depends on the person. I personally think it isn’t. Many people are moving into the natural hair because of the realization that it is a healthier choice for our hair. We are learning to embrace and not shy away from it. When I see other naturals I get excited because I’m looking at me. We have a common bond even if we don’t know each other. It’s unspoken. I am still maintaining my regimen and loving every minute of it!

  • Valerie Smith

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
No, I don’t think it is a fad, I am from the UK. I see more and more natural ladies.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
    Very pleased and very proud.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I was very pleased how I am getting on, I am massaging my hair twice daily. No challenges so far.

  • http://twitter.com/Netta__love92 Netta

    1. No, I don’t think it’s a fad. I think women are coming into their own, some later than others. I think it’s another time of self love and learning to work with whatcha got. :)

    2. I get a little happier or sometimes a little envious. Happy because there’s an unsaid bond there and envious especially when their hair is amazing and Charlamagne is having an off day.

    3. I’m still going strong. I’ve used my coconut oil/castor oil mix as a prepoo for my cowash and a couple times through the week as a styler. The thickness of the castor oil holds my curls together and the coconut oil gives my hair a nice shine, even in the low lights of the spa I work at. The only challenge I’ve had is that when I make my mix for the week, I always underestimate how much I’m going to need lol.

  • Hillary Huyghue

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
Natural hair is certainly popular, but I don’t know if its exactly a fad. Some people are no doubt doing it because its popular. The great part of it is that the media has certainly caught on the bandwagon, I’ve seen more natural hair models on TV than ever. It’s easier to become natural w/o breaking your bank because finally there are quality products are on the market designed especially for our hair. It’s about time!
    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
Happy! I also am tempted to ask complete strangers what their regimen is and compliment them on their hair…people do the same to me too!
    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? Still going strong with the castor oil. I think I finally found the happy medium. This weekend I saw some family that I hadn’t seen since I started the challenge and they all commented on how much my hair has grown and how nice and healthy it looks.

    Check In Questions:

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? I don’t think Natural hair is a fad. I think to the mainstream it may appear that way as up until this point there were limited resources, products and positive images that celebrated women who chose to wear their hair in it natural state. Now that more and more Curly Girls are emerging, the “Jones” have to keep up with us! Smart businesses are creating products that catering to our growing curlmmunity and debunking this myth.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? I LOVE seeing other naturals! I make it a point to let them know that I appreciate their natural beauty!

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I slacked off a little bit last week but I’m back on track with applying my castor oil at minimum 3X per week.

  • Truladi

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
No I don’t think natural hair is a fad I think that more and more women are seeing the benefits of being natural and the ones who are doing it just to go with what they think is a fad or passing movement…they won’t last as naturals once they realize that it is
just as much work if not more to upkeep natural hair as it is relaxed hair…I
think that the hair product industry knows that it is not a fad by all of the
natural hair care lines that are emerging…big ups to all the hair care lines
who recognize that there is a growing market of naturals that need good hair
    care products.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
I love it and often have hair envy because their hair is so nice and it’s where I’m trying to get but I’m having patience knowing that I will be there soon…I’m always telling other naturalistas that I see, I love your hair.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any
    challenges thus far?
I did good last week and yes I did follow through with my goals I am so happy with the results that I have gotten with my edges…it’s amazing that places where there was literally no hair..(bald) has hair now… it’s awesome.!

  • Keisha M

Hello Ladies!!! I hope all is well with everyone. Personally, I do not think natural hair is a fad. Of course you have some people going natural for that specific reason, it’s the “hot” thing right now, but for the majority, it’s about embracing your natural texture and having the healthiest hair you’ve ever had. I seem to be able to point out a naturalista really fast since I’ve become natural. It makes me feel good to see other women being comfortable with the way their hair grows and finding different ways to express their style through their hair. I did decent last week, I mostly wore protective styling, so my edges got the majority of the castor oil. I can’t say that I’m having any new challenges. Hope everyone is enjoying their journey :)

  • quanda moss

    1. No, I think the Natural movement is here stay bc we don’t want all those chemicals in our hair just like we don’t it in body.

    2. I pay extra attention to other naturals to see their hair. I like to know what they did in the beginning and what they are doing now.

3.I have kept the same routine but what about two weeks ago I changed from the pharmacy CO castor oil to the Cold pressed castor oil. My hair has thicken up tremendously but it doesn’t look like it has grown alot and it has broken off in the back center. So I don’t know what has happen. I might go back to the pharmacy CO castor oil.

  • Marissa D

    1. Hmmm….it could be a fad for those who are very fashion focused. As when the new trend comes…they may follow. But I do think alot more people are becoming more knowledgeable on the benefits of healthy hair. With that education…and do not believe it is a fad for those people.
    2. When I see them…often time I am envious of the full beautiful hair. Or I just want to touch it. I too think many times, what is the routine in making it grow.
    3. In my last week entry ….I thought I had some results, but after this week I see not. When I put my gel on my sides…I saw how bald I was.

  • http://www.facebook.com/jjarrett1018 Jennifer Robinson Jarrett

No I don’t think that natural hair is a fad but I do believe some people do. I believe that people are beginning to embrace their natural hair because there are now more products to choose from and people like Jenell to help guide someone through the natural hair journey by providing reviews on various products and hairstyles. When I see other naturalistas I feel good like we understand each other without saying a word. My week 8 went very well without any issues and I am happy to say I was able to meet all of my goals for this week.

  • petrina pryor

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? I dont think its a fab for myself personally but it has become much more fashionable to be natural. I think it wont be as popular in the future but for those of us who have embraced being natural as a way of life, ie.e health and beauty wise, it will continue to exist.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? Because I’m an extrovert I want to start up a conversation and get to know them but not everyone is as open and friendly as I am. It excites me to see women of color embracing their true selves. I love seeing naturalistas!!

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far.Last week was kinda slow. I didnt use the castor oil mix as much but I followed through later on.

  • Funkystarkitty50

    1. Maybe it is a fad for some people, but for me and other people that I know, it is a way of life, something that has been embraced. Learning to care for your own hair can be liberating, not to mention financially sound once you find the right products ans stick to them.
2.I feel that I have a bond with other women with natural hair, but I don’t really think about it that much after initially seeing it. Just “Yay” and move on.
    3. Same routine of washing, deep conditioning, castor oil scalp massage, baggie method. Still having the same problems, but there is so me growth. Just trying to make it until delivery, then it will be interesting to see what happens to my hair then.

  • http://www.facebook.com/kathleen.grayson.9 Kathleen Grayson

    1. I don’t think it is a fad for me I can only speak for me, it is a way of life. I choose to live a healthier whole life and if that includes me to not perm then so be it. I set my own rules when it comes to me and I don’t let society choose for me.
2.When I see other naturalista I applaud them, I compliment them. I feel proud to see other are happy to be nappy. I even sing my song ” If you nappy and you happy clap your hands, if you nappy and you happy and your hair will truly show it if you nappy and you happy clap ya hands!!!!!!
    3. I had no challenges last week.
SN: Loved you in Dallas you are a humble, down to earth, no nonsense kind of woman.

  • Kam

    1. I do not think natural hair is a fad. I think more women are becoming more knowledgeable on how to care for their hair in its natural state.

    2. When I see other naturalistas, I sometimes find myself admiring their hair.

    3. Last week I did really well. I used castor oil on my hair and scalp three times. So far, I haven’t experienced any challenges.

  • nasimiyumakali

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?

it ain’t a fad for me. since going natural i have embraced how God created me. we are all beautiful in our unique ways. when i was a child i would wish for white people type of hair and i would wonder why our hair was so “bad”. my perception has changed since i discovered that our hair is awesome too and can be managed in its natural state

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
so excited! especially when i spot them at events, when i’m running my errands in town. i wnat to walk up to them and say…..you are rocking your natural.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? i did ok, oiled my scalp twice.

  • http://www.mayagatewood.com/ Maya Gatewood

    1. No, I think black women specifically are becoming more untuned with themselves and making no apologies for who we truly are, even extending past natural hair. I think the media attention natural hair has garnered of late has brought more awareness to main stream America, which could make it seem like this new fad black woman are doing when in fact women have been natural or going natural for years!
    2. When I see other Naturalistas I feel like a member of an exclusive club. It also helps reinforce to myself that I made the right decision…I’m not alone. I also get tons of inspiration when I see a dope braid out or the length another Naturalista was able to grow her hair. Love my sissys, :)
    3. I did well w continuing to add Castor Oil to my deep conditioner ever week. As well as using it for hot oil treatments which I’ve been doing a lot more of (like once a week or once every 2 weeks). The hot oil treatments leave my hair feeling that “pre-natural” silkiness if u know what I mean. I’ve given up trying to remember to apply to my edges lol! If I do, I do. But I can’t beat myself up anymore lmbo!!

  • Tiffany Hines

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?

I do not think natural hair is a fad. Natural hair is a LIFESTYLE. You have to be confident, you have to want to change, you have to be able to endure the stares and sometimes not so nice comments. Natural hair is not music, a dance, or clothes, or types of shoes that will go out of style and then decades later be popular again. In the 60′s, 70′s, and 80′s men and women rocked BIG fros and them came the relaxer and jheri curls, but I feel that natural hair is here to stay!

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?

I get excited when I see other naturalistas! I flash them a warm smile and I’m quick to compliment and I feel the response is reciprocated.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

Last week was better than week 7, but not as good as when I first started. I washed my hair and use JBCO/EVOO to do a hot oil treatment, then I twisted my hair with evoo and another product and sealed the ends with JBCO. Then 3 days after the wash I used JBCO on my edges and all over my hair. My initial goal was to use it daily and I’m now getting back on track. No real challenges besides MYSELF.

  • WHITNEY HUDSON

1.) I’M NOT SURE ON HOW I FEEL ABOUT THAT QUESTION. I KNOW SOME WOMEN LIKE MYSELF REALLY CARE FOR THERE HAIR AND DO WHATEVA THEY CAN TO MAINTAIN IT. I DO HAVE A FRIEND HOWEVER WHO IS TRANSITIONING AND SHE DOESN’T DO ANYTHING TO IT. NO OIL NO NOTHING. I GUESS IT WOUD BE A YES FOR SOME.. I DON’T KNOW..

2.) I LOVE IT WHEN I SEE OTHER NATURALS.. I HAVE YET TO RUN INTO ONE THAT HAS THE SAME HAIR TEXTURE AS ME.. THERE CURLS ARE EITHER REAL KINKY OR CURLY..LIKE A REAL TYPE COIL CURL..THEY GIVE ME DIFFERENT IDEAS AS FAR AS STYLES GO AND ADVICE ON DIFFERENT PRODUCTS..I AM WHAT SOME PEOPLE CALL A PJ.. I’M ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT TRYING NEW STUFF..I LOVE SEEING THEM THOUGH..IT MOTIVATES ME TO KEEP GOING…
3.) I STILL GOING STRONG WITH MY ROUTINE. I USE IT DAILY ON MY HAIR IT SELF AND EVERY OTHER DAY ON MY SCALP.. I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO CONTINUING WITH THE CHALLENGE. I’M GONNA JOIN THE NEXT CHALLENGE AS WELL…

  • Laetitia Lukanda

    1. I think natural hair is could be a fad, but only for some and not for all. Some are “going natural” because it’s the popular thing to do. They won’t be able to continue in this, though, because natural hair requires more work. It’s not a fad for those who have substantial reasons for “going natural” and who realize the work that it requires.

    2. I am always happy to see other naturalistas!

    3. Last week I did well in terms of keeping up. Still disappointed over no growth.

  • SteviiLaLa

No, I do not think natural hair is a fad. Now, that there are more studies proving that chemical treatments are harmful to our hair, scalp, lungs, etc… I believe more women will be less likely to chemically treat their hair. With the numerous amount of natural hair information, products to help manage natural hair and salons that specialize in natural hair women will be more open to going natural and sticking with it. I think it is a new way of life. Not a fad.
When I see other Naturalistas, I definitely acknowledge them and compliment them on their beautiful hair. If I see that they may be facing challenges I will refer them to the KCCM site for information. I make an extra effort to compliment teens and tweens on their natural hair. I know how hard it can be to be different.
Week 8 went well. I followed all my goals. I am loving the new me and this challenge.

  • http://www.facebook.com/keishajmoore Keisha Moore-Mua

I haven’t been posting but have been participating in this challenge, going to try to upload pics. i last straightened my hair the last week in August right before we started. I straightend this past weekend and see a huge difference in the length/ thickness of my hair at least 2 1/2 3 inches of growth. Thank you for this challenge. i will try to post more actively next time as i definitely plan on continuing :) Just wanted to share.

  • Darlene

    1. I do not think my natural hair is a fad I believe it just learning to love my hair the way God intended me too. I’ve learn a lot about my hair since being natural an I love my kinky curly coily hair.
    2. When I see other naturals I smile and get the urge to talk with them.
    3. Last week I followed through with my hair goals but I’m just a little impatient with my hair. I see fullness and feel the difference in the way my hair feels but no hair growth.

  • Ann

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? No Why or why not? We are truly embracing who we really are.
    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? Wonderful, makes me proud and want to ask what they do to keep their hair looking good!
    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Very well. Did you follow through with your goals? Yes. Any challenges thus far? No.

  • Robin Thomas

    1. I don;t believe that natural hair is a “fad” but i do believe that over the past few years more and more people have started to become natural. But i think it’s more about women being more educated about natural hair, than trying to follow a fad.
    2. I love seeing other naturalistas. When i see them with long, thick, beautiful hair it gives me motivation to keep up with my hair journey. It’s cool to compare stories and other things with other naturalistas.
    3. Last week i used more castor oil with my daily moisturizer, as well as combined with coconut oil. I also used it as a sealant after my leave in conditioner.

  • http://www.facebook.com/deccie.turk Deccie Canady Turk

I am so late with this check in… For me be natural is not a fad… And I believe for most of us it is not a fad, but there are women who do it just because and then complain because of the growth or the work to take care of the hair…I believe most of the natural ladies are learning to embrace their true selves!!!! I feel great when I see other natural sisters… I did good last week withthe challenge, but I could have done better… Still no challenges…

i’m not sure. i really hope that it will last tho. i really like seing people with their natural hair. it just makes me feel good. i really hope it’s here to stay

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
haha i just answered thiis in the last question. but to repeat myself, i feel good and proud when i see other naturalistas. and it makes me proud 2 be a black woman. i know, seems like i’m pushing it, but that’s really how i feel.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I feel like i repeat myself alot over the weeks with this question, but, once again, school takes most of my time but i always make use to oil my edges atleast once a day

  • songbird

No I don’t think it’s a fad. I just recognize naturalistas more when I’m out…it’s cool. I have done as well as I wanted to this week. I plan to do better and just have added castor oil to my regimen for life. Thank you Jenell! :)

    Hello,

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? No not at all. We have/are embracing our natural texture. We realize the damage that we did in the past listening to what “they” had to say our hair should look like. Naturalists are moving forward and embracing the way God intended our hair to be.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalists? Happy to be natural and inspired by other naturalists. I love seeing the different styles and textures. I so love the big bold Afros!!! This movement is strong and everlasting. I do not miss the creamy crack. No looking back….

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I changed up my routine and I have been wearing 2 strand twists instead of the wigs. My focus was more my scalp last week. I sealed my ends with Argan oil instead. My scalp is loving the Castor Oil :-)

  • Trell

I would say that natural is here to stay, but I think its not for everyone. It takes an attitude, a confidence,a lifestyle even, and dedication. I never would have thought having natural hair is MORE work than being relaxed. But again I love my journey and Ive learned that I can throw in some finger coils they can last a week. I met girls who have given up because of the work..alot of us will try and I will guestimate about 50% of us will go back to being relaxed.

When I see other Naturalist…I wonder what they use for their hair, do they a stylist, do they just do their own hair…..I wonder what they are thinking about my hair…does it look moist, stylish.. But I’ll say it…its not always positive either when I see other sisters..Some-TIMES…Im like What the heck is she doing..She need some hair mentoring. :)

Still doing my 3-4 times a week messaging into my scalp and edges. No issues..Im still grateful that I found you KCCM, because I always had dry scalp issues, even when I was relaxed but this oil, no lie, gives me the help relief I needed!!.
    Until Next week.. :)

As more and more Beautiful BLACK women are embracing their natural beauty. The world will see the Natural hair is here to stay.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? I feel very proud of my natural black sisters.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did alright. But I didn’t follow through to much on my routine last week. SORRY. No challenges just not enough time.

    1. I don’t believe that natural hair is a fad at all. It has always been fashionable and a way of life for some people. Lol

    2. I get super excited when I see other naturalistas. There’s always a time for new forms of wisdom.

    3. No challenges so far. Other than being relocated by Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy, I’m okay.

  • http://www.facebook.com/brendaskid Kay-Megan Washington

Yes, I think natural hair is a fad, but not a passing one. When I see other women with natural hair, I smile the way you do when you see someone wearing your sorority’s gear: I don’t know this person, but they belong to the same club as I do. No major changes this week, except I find that I am having to do more to keep my hair moisturized as the air gets colder outside and heated and drier inside.

  • http://www.facebook.com/tracie.h.young Tracie Henson Young

I don’t think natural hair is a fad. I believe it will continue to evolve now that products and information is more readily available. We’ve now recognized the benefits are far greater than ever before.
When I see other naturalists I’m inspired, excited. It takes a certain level of confidence to rock the unknown from day to day.
During week 8 I continued to keep it simple by mixing it in my conditioner, sealing my ends and applying to my edges.

  • Zekia Brunson

    1. No, I don’t think natural hair is a fad because we are embracing our natural textures, not wearing it as an accessory.
    2. I love seeing other natural ladies. I feel like there is a secret natural bond that makes us sisters, where we can see each other for who God created us to be. Though that’s just on the surface, I have also found that many ladies who have embraced their natural texture are more confident than when they were relaxed.
    3. Since I started a new class in economics and moved to a new apartment last week and this past weekend, the only thing that I have been able to maintain is oiling my edges and scalp every couple days. I didn’t have a chance to do a wash yet, but it will most definitely happen this week. So far so good. :-)

  • http://www.facebook.com/toddandelsie Elsie Feairheller

I feel like natural hair is more popular now than creamy crack….A lot of ladies are embracing their natural self and falling in love with it, I agree with the lady below me, natural hair is here to stay.

When i see other naturalistas i feel so proud and excited and i feel like i want to approach them and just chat away lol sometimes i do and end up making new friends even at work..yes i do it at work don’t judge me and sometimes i just let them know how beautiful there hair is and themselves of course.

I did good last week..although i need to keep my water in take and also i finally took my braids out and my hair is longer yes i love love you castor oil lol. I’m def doing the winter challenge :)

  • Samantha Sheppard

I definitely don’t feel like do NOT feel like natural hair is a fad…it’s a way of life that results in changes in other areas such as eating and physical fitness and I’m so proud of my decision and I wish I had done it sooner!

When I see other naturals I so badly want to talk to them! But then i feel like they will think I’m deranged so I don’t haha.

Last week wasn’t as constant as other weeks but I am doing well with my edges. This week due to Hurricane Sandy i have had more time to keep my hair in protected styles and I’ve made more time to check on my edges. I’m going to be putting in some two strand twists for the first time towards the end of the challenge so I’m hoping that will also help me be more vigilant about putting castor oil on my scalp since I won’t have to style it.

My natural hair is not a fad. I’m just glad I’ve discovered my true hair. How can it be a fad when you’re learning to look after your hair. What you do from there on in is your choice, but you can never unlearn what you’ve discovered. I guess what you do with that knowledge, whether you embrace it or ignore it could be the ‘fad’ part.

I love looking at other naturalistas. I’m not ashamed to stare and admire. I openly do it. If a sister has taken the time to look after her hair, she should be rewarded with admiration

Last week wasn’t the best. I wanted to take my braids out over the weekend, but my partner wanted family time with his new nephew which I couldn’t avoid. I think my braids are a bit tired, and I’m desperate to give my hair a deep condition. This coming weekend I’m only leaving the house for an appointment, the rest of the time is dedicated to my hair. I cannot wait. So excited.

Although natural hair is not a fad, I have met a disturbingly large number of women who transition hoping for immediate Foxxy Brown size afros or Freddy type ringlets.

When I see other naturalistas, I feel proud…..like we’re part of a secret society of elitists. I know that’s silly!

Last week was a breeze. I’m moving right along.

    • Tiffany Hines

Jewel Berry, I feel you on the Foxy Brown fro and Freddie curls. I was one of those women, like man why isn’t my fro this BIG or why isn’t my hair this LONG after x # of years.

    1. I don’t want to believe its a fad. when I bc it wasn’t as “popular” as it is now and I am always seeing a fellow natural sister everywhere I go so I think natural is here to stay!
    2. I feel like there goes a natural sister and go girl! I also feel a sense of pride seeing women rocking their naturally fabulous dos.
    3. I did much better by applying the oil to my scalp and hairline more frequently during the week.

  • patty barnes

I don’t think that natural hair is a fad. I feel that a lot of naturals are really beginning to embrace their natural curls. I can honestly say that it’s definitely not a fad for me. When I see other naturalistas it motivates me and I make it a point to compliment other naturals. Week 8 went pretty good for. I had my hair in small two-strand twists so I left them in and did my normal weekly routine. The only thing I didn’t do was my deep conditioning. No challenges thus far. I am really enjoying this challenge. Makes me accountable.

    1. I don’t feel that natural hair is a fad. I feel that it is a choice, just like healthy living vs. not so healthy living. Anyone who chooses to relax their hair is choosing a style and I feel that natural hair is a style choice. Not better, just a choice. I say rock your hair whichever way you choose!

    2. When I see other naturalistas, I immediately think “What products does she use? What did she do to achieve that style?” Like an in-person Youtube viewing! LOL I love other ladies have made the natural style choice because younger girls won’t feel like they are stepping into the unknown. Seeing others provides comfort and confidence for all.

    3. Last week I continue my routine with castor oil (sealing, applying to scalp and edges, etc.) I also did a hot oil treatment for added moisturize since it has gotten a little colder. I want my hair to remain moisturize through the fall and winter so I have to step my game up. No new challenges for me. I have settled into my routine and am thoroughly loving it!!!

Natural hair is NOT a fad once u can truly embrace it u will never be able to treat it with anything that is nott good for it. It takes a strong person to embrace whats out of the box.
one word for question 2 PROUD
    great easy does it

  • PatAnn

    1. A fad would have faded by now, my hair has become apart of my way of life.
    2. I’m inspired and overwhelmed at the beauty that these women have from within-thanks and keep up the great works.
    3. As in each week my challenge is tp wrap-up the week. I have just made this apart of my regular routine.

    • Tiffany Hines

PatAnn, that is so true, a fad would have faded by now; but more and more women are embracing their natural hair and companies are starting to recognize it.

Hey all, so much has happened personally for me. Good things. I was offered a job in Alabama and have to be there in a month. Have to packed up and get moving. Hence my later checkins and missed check in last week. Sorry. I have missed a few oil days, but overall I am keeping up. I also have braids now so oiling the scalp is needed with all the itching. Janelle your twists look fantastic!!!

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? I did believe it was a fab at first but now it’s just a choice for us women. I love no relaxer. Always thought what to do with my hair when I was relaxed and it was time for a touch up. GLad I found this community!!!

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? Inspired!!! that’s about it. Just the fact that they are “brave” if you will enough to try new styles is a wonderful thing.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far Well my goal was braids, so yes. I wasn’t completely keeping with oil but when I did, I gave my self great scalp massages!!!

      Congrats on your new job!!!

    1. I don’t believe natural hair is a fad. It may appear that way because there are more resources on educating ourselves about to mamange our natural tresses, therefore, more women are becoming natural. Being natural isn’t a fad, how can maintaining what grows out of your head in its natural state a fad, I believe chemically treated hair id more a fad, if you ask me.
    2. I am genuinely excited when I see other naturalistas becasue I know Im not in this alone!
    3. I did ok last week, I may have slacked off a bit, but I do have a 4 yr old and a 5 month old so you moms out there know how that is…lol. My goal was to maitain a 2 strand twist for 2 weeks and I did. My only challeneg is that I don’t feel like I have gained much length, maybe its just me idk, we’ll have to see during the Winter challenge!

    • Tiffany Hines

Marie, I love it! Chemically treated hair is a fad and more women are seeing that, just say no to the “Just For Me” and that creamy crack!!!

  • Katrina

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
No, because it is a healthy lifestyle change to me. It’s not just about healthy hair. It also makes you more conscious of your entire health and well-being.
    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
    Happy, excited, and proud.
    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did alright. I used my JBCO/coconut mixture at least three times. I met most of my goals. No other challenges have popped up except for using JBCO more than three times a week. Other than that, I’m on target. :-)

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?

I feel like we are finally embracing our roots and seeing that it is ok to be natural.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?

Even though I love healthy hair in general. I just love it even more when I see a fellow natural. Also if there is time I like to hear how they style and take care of their hair so that I can get new ideas.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

I missed a few nights of oiling and massaging my scalp because of work. But other than that I achieved my goals.

  • Noni_P

Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? Sometimes I do. Some people do it because others are doing it and it takes a commitment and is not always easy so some may go back. Me on the other hand I LOVE my natural texture and can’t even imagine putting creamy crack on it!!!!

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? I feel like there is a secret bond that we share. A great appreciation that is expressed without a word said by anyone just a look

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? Did much better now that my hair is braided :-)

  • Noni_P

The first pic is from 10/14/12, the second is from when I started the challenge, 9/3/12. I am very pleased!!!

    • Tiffany Hines

I can see some growth and the texture looks different!

  • onyinyechi uwakwemdike

I don’t think natural hair is a fad. More people are seeking better and healthier ways of taking care of their hair so they go natural..there’s also the added advantage that natural hair is more versatile. people that go natural just to go with the trend get frustrated and revert back to relaxer because they never took the time to study their hair to know what would make it thrive.

when I see other natural ladies I just want to talk hair all day long..lol

I had to change the ways I use castor oil. I no longer use it for scalp massage because it contributes to the breakout on my hairline and face. I add it to my prepoo and deep conditioner once a week. I also use a mix of oils containing castor oil as a sealant, once during wash day and 2 times during the week after moisturizing.

  • Ladynappy

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? I do not but I feel that the people I come in contact with think so. Possibly because regardless of what state my hair was in I would change hairstyles frequently. So now they feel its just something I am going through

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? I love I am always checking out the artistic hairstyles they have come up with

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? Not bad, still working the edges (I see a little fuzz) and massing the scalp at least 3-4x’s a week.

  • Nicola

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not? Some people I come across seem to think that it is a fad, I don’t think it is, I believe that more people are aware of things and generally now trying to live a healthier lifestyle… diet, hair, skin etc

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas? Happy and proud, depending on where I am or if there is time, we generally get into a whole conversation on hair care, tips etc

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? my goal this week was to focus on my edges and my ends, I also used it on my scalp 3 times last week

    • Tiffany Hines

Nicola, I feel the same way about my feelings surrounding other naturalistas. I will smile and say hey, but depending on the situation and environment it will lead to oh so what does you use, have you tried this, and so on and so forth.

  • http://www.facebook.com/shelrocksgirl Sophie Naturalista Briscoe

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
NO because I think people are realizing how destructive perms are.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
Great and I try to compliment as much as I can.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
Not so well because it was in a protective style and it was hard to apply but I did it anyway.

    • Tiffany Hines

Not sure if you are still wearing your hair in a protective style, but I know you can use it on your edges and depending on the style in between the braids or twists.

  • MsPerfect513

    1. Do you think natural hair is a fad? Why or why not?
Natural hair is not a fad its definitely here to stay. More and more individuals are looking at their lifestyles and deciding to take a healthier approach to life. They are eliminating pesticides and othe chemicals from their food. Why not take the same approach with their hair. Since going natural I have become so aware of the other destructive things that I have been doing to my body. I am definitely leading a healthier lifestyle and Im loving it.

    2. How do you feel when you see other naturalistas?
It makes me feel great and I am happy that several others are joining the natural community.

    3. How did you do last week (week 8)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did a great job of following my goal this week. I am trying to find new ways to use the castor oil. Sometime my hair feels weighed down when I use castor oil on my ends daily. I may change to every other day

    • Tiffany Hines

MsPerfect513, that’s exactly how I felt. We read the labels on our food so why not for our hair. It is most definitely about leading a healthier lifestyle.
