Castor Oil Challenge Week 6 Check In

By Jenell — October 06, 2012

Oct 6, 2012 – Oct 12, 2012

If you didn’t join the challenge in the beginning I’m sorry, it’s too late.  You can register for the Winter challenge in November.

Last week was length check week!  Most of you who are wearing your hair loose are seeing great results!  Those of you who haven’t noticed results, we have 2 more months to see improvement. Use the next two months to focus more on your use of castor oil.

Castor Oil Moisturizes the Scalp & Thickens Hair

Omega 6 fatty acids in castor oil help keep your scalp from drying out, while regular use of castor oil may encourage thicker hair growth. Unrefined castor oil is preferred over refined types, because it contains more nutrients and healing properties. Use castor oil for hot oil treatments and scalp massages to stimulate hair growth and keep your hair soft and manageable.

Check In Questions:

1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?

2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?

3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

Do you Tweet? If so use hashtag #KCCM so we all can follow the convo.  Feel free to include me  @BlakIzBeautyful

Keep encouraging eachother, you all are doing soo well!

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
I’m wayyyyy over the whole natural vs relaxed war… Some folk truly need to take a seat… I’ve seen my fair share of naturals going off on others who choose to have relaxers, or wear weaves… If people would just mind their OWN business, and stop being so judgmental… In my opinion HEALTHY hair; whether natural or relaxed, is beautiful… And I personally am not here to judge anyone… That’s God’s job and honey I’m not trying to take the creators job… No ma’am…

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?

I do prefer all natural products, but I am not opposed to using products that are not 100%natural. As long as my hair is happy with the product, I am happy with the product.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

My hair has been in an up do, so I could not oil my hair as desired… But I hit the edges and made sure to oil my scalp well before I put it up.

    • Nish Wallace

OMG Arvetta, yes I dont understand why we are divided. I mean it goes both ways, naturals attack relaxed ladies and relaxed ladies attack natural ladies. I dont understand, it seems like they would have more important things to talk about like growth in their life or bettering their relationship with God (my opinion). I also lean to using natural products but like you said if my hair is happy than i’m good.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1674532644 Arvetta LordtouchRenee’ Moore

Amen Nish… Regardless of what we choose whether natural or relaxed– We still should remember we are all Sister’s and the Sisterhood should not cease because of our hair choices.. That is just silly and so unlike God…

    • http://www.facebook.com/toniwill.melvin ToniWill Melvin

      Amen!

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1674532644 Arvetta LordtouchRenee’ Moore

Amen Sweetie:) and blessed luck on your journey:))))

    • http://www.facebook.com/zeena.sally Zeena Sally

I so agree with you Arvetta. My sister told me about a blog she read where so many woman blasted this one female for going back to relaxed hair after being natural. It’s not that serious. It was her hair on her head. If she choose to share her decision about her hair it was not anyone’s place to comment about it in a negative way.
Hair is hair. What you do with it is your decision and if people feel they need to say negative things to people about something as small as their choice of how they wear they’re hair then what is going on in your life that is so bad that you need to attack that person?
There are bigger problems in the world that we need to focus on instead of worrying about how someone wears their hair.
God bless you all. Natural and Relaxed.

      • Tawnee001

Me too! I agree. I am sick of it! LOL.

        • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1674532644 Arvetta LordtouchRenee’ Moore

lol@ I feel you Tawnee:))) Blessed luck on your journey Honey:)

          • Tawnee001

            Thank you! :) You too!

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1674532644 Arvetta LordtouchRenee’ Moore

God bless you too sweetheart… And you are so very right– it is not that serious… Love, NNB

      • http://www.facebook.com/helen.henton.58 Helen Henton

the killer part is that most of these naturals who are so against these other women dont even realize its not just about your hair but your body as a whole.. when its all said and done there isnt a pearly white gate with an angel standing guard checking if youre natural or not! truth

        • Nish Wallace

Yesss helen you better preach. True indeed

    • http://www.facebook.com/aoyewole2586 Alwina Oyewoleturner

I agree re the relaxed v. Natural war. Natural is not for everyone. I have friend’s who have relaxers and it works for them. Do you, cause it’s not my hair.

      • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1674532644 Arvetta LordtouchRenee’ Moore

Exactly Alwina… We all should be able to do what we want with our hair, without reprisal, or condemnation… Its just really sad… I rally up my relaxed Sisters just like I do my natural sisters… Because to me– no matter the state of you hair, what matters to me is the healthiness of your hair…

    • http://www.facebook.com/helen.henton.58 Helen Henton

girl you are so right.. im like whatever you want to do with your hair is your business.. It kills me sometimes to read comments on youtube or even on instagram.. its like a war..child please lol

  • Laetitia Lukanda

    1. I am “so over” the looks that I get when I now that I wear my natural hair. I guess maybe people are just not used to seeing it one me, but I get glances all the time, as if people are perplexed to see this type of texture.
    2. Iprefer “all natural”/”organic” products only because I feel like it’s better to promote the healthiness of my hair. In the past my hair did not react well to products that were not natural and that is why I prefer using all natural/organic.
    3. Last week I did well in terms of following through with my goals. In addition to applying the Castor Oil to my scalp I did a hot oil treatment, and I think my hair really liked it. Yesterday I noticed what appeared to be even more patches to my edges being gone :-( But I’m still pressing on and hoping/praying that by the end of this challenge my edges will have fully come back.

    • Nish Wallace

Laetitia its ok, life goes on because as long as you continue to rock your beautiful hair in confidence it does not matter what others think. Your opinion matters and although it may hurt to have people give glances, they are probably gonna do it anyway whether its your hair, what you wear, how you walk etc. Also it may not be negative, they may be thinking in their head “Wow Laetitia is rocking that natural hair, wish I could do it”.

    • http://www.facebook.com/helen.henton.58 Helen Henton

try not to put any stress on your edges..i have a bald spot that im trying to grow out and its growing.. i just fuuss with it. i apply the oil and rub lightly then leave it alone.. good luck! your edges will grow!

    • nasimiyumakali

you work that natural hair. i felt the same way about the looks but now i am so over it. rock your hair with confidence!

  • NikkiB

Yes I absolutely love being natural however I am so over buying all these products hoping that it will do for me what I think it will do based on what someone else says. I’ve just learned to continue to stay in the loop regarding new products as opposed just running out and buying them…too expensive. I’ve found what works and no need to buy several of the same thing. I prefer natural oils and butters; that’s all I use. However if I’m introduced to something else, I will try it before I knock it. Still on track….last week was a great week. Still followed my regimen and loving it. However I trimmed my hair the Sunday after the 4th week check-in!!!! OMG…I totally forgot about the 5th week length check and forgot to post my pics. So I’ll just use those pics as my new ‘before’ pics.

  • Alyssa

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
    – the one thing I’m over is HOW LONG it takes me to wash my hair
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
    – I prefer the natural stuff. My hair likes it and it hasn’t failed me, so that’s about it.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
    – well, I was surprised at how long my hair had gotten since i last twisted it & was very happy with my results. My ends look good, so I can’t complain.

    • Deanna H.

My hair wash day is a tedious process as well.

    • http://www.facebook.com/helen.henton.58 Helen Henton

Alyssa I use to be overwhelmd too.. but I found what works for everyone in the house and that 3 different products. so when you find what your hair really loves it makes washing much easier and detangleling much faster.. both of my daughter have hair to their waist…and to think your hair is still growing! lol

  • Hillary Huyghue

    1. I guess I would say that I’m so over the trial and error of a twist out. For some reason it just doesn’t seem to work for me. I hate spending 2 to 3 hours on attempting the style and it’s just a waste. I think I’ll just have to wait until I can go to a professionally and my hair is a little longer.

    2. I prefer the natural products over others. If I found something that would definitely give me great results and wasn’t natural I would try it but won’t invest until I know for sure.

    3. I’ve had to decrease the amount of castor oil, because my scalp is getting too sensitive. I still apply though not as generously at least 3x a week.

    • Nish Wallace

Hillary….Trial and error is right. I still havent perfected it and i’ve been natural almost 3 yrs now, I have gave up and accepted that its either me or my hair that doesn’t get the definition of others. So I just learn to love how my hair turns out in a twist out. But a braid out is a no no for me.

    • kiandra

I definitely feel ya, the twist out is a no go for me too, I’m going to a stylist and seeing what she can do with a twistout on my hair! Happy Hair Journey!

    • Tawnee001

I feel you on the twistouts! I barely bother with those. I wear my twists all week and if the twistout looks decent enough, I’ll hold off on wash day to wear it out. But besides that, I am no longer pressed about the perfect twistout.

    • http://www.facebook.com/helen.henton.58 Helen Henton

if you feel like scalp is being a bit sore just add something like olive oil to cut the stregnth.. it worked for me.. lol 2-3hrs.. I know what you mean.. ive been rocking a puff or pony for about 4 weeks..

  • http://www.facebook.com/deccie.turk Deccie Canady Turk

@JenellyBean:disqus is there something wrong with the site? I can’t see the comments…. Thanks I posted this morning and nothing shows…. I can only see one comment!

  • naturalNbeauty

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”. I definitely agree with the comment made by Ms. LordtouchRenee’. There does seem like a war between natural vs. relaxed. What is for you…is for you!!! Embrace your look ladies and flaunt it. Love to see strong, confident women of color!!!
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I prefer natural products but I am not totally against those that aren’t. If the product works well for my hair I’m getting it.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did well during week 5 still apply CO daily to my scalp and edges. Today I bought JBCO so I am going to see if there is a difference in growth & mositure. I was using pharmacy CO.

  • http://twitter.com/1BoldBella Bold Bella

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
People stopping to give their opinion about my hair.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I use all natural products. My hair tends to like ayurvedic products too. I like incorporating herbs, teas and pastes.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
No, this challenge is going really well. I am on my third bottle of JBCO. I love it!

    • http://www.facebook.com/helen.henton.58 Helen Henton

lol ok! people kill me with thier opinions!

      • http://twitter.com/Afro_Geisha Danielle

        I agree. LOL

  • Monica Hicks

    1. I am so over all the rules people have set to what is natural and what is not natural. I am also over all of the judgement even within the “natural” community of someone else’s hair. Stay in your lane and just do you, lets just learn to appreciate our own hair first and not judge someone else’s because their regimen is not like yours.

    2. I prefer all natural/organic products but there are a few products that my hair does better with that are not all natural.

    3. My edges are beginning to frustrate me just a little. Not seeing the results that I would like but I am going to hang in there.

    • Deanna H.

Ohhhh, good one for the ‘so over’ question!

  • http://www.facebook.com/tracee.thomas.16 Tracee Thomas

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
I have to say there is nothing I’m “so over” yet. I read some of the other comments about the relaxed vs natural war. I haven’t experienced that. I currently live in New Orleans and there is a mixture of natural and relaxed women that are confident in whatever hair type they are wearing!

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I am for products that are good for my hair. If they are organic or all natural that is an added plus.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

Last week I had my hair in an updo. I took my faux bun off every night and massaged my scalp and edges with castor oil. I also slipped some through my twists. No challenges yet; just continuing to enjoy this journey!

I am so over not being able to post my comment…

I hear ya sis. I tried to post over 18 hours ago and was finally able to post a few minutes ago. You’ll get it! Happy Hair Journey.

        I still can’t post!!!! LOL!!!

    • http://naturallystellar.wordpress.com/ NaturallyStellar

I feel your pain. I had the same problem for a few weeks out of this challenge. I notice that if I log into Disqus before I come to the site, all of my comments show up correctly now. Not sure if that’s your issue but I just wanted to share just in case.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Natacha.kitoti.orsot Natacha L Abricot

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
I think to be natural is very good but it is difficult for me to manage to do different style to my hair and most of the time i am tired of it.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I prefer natural/organic product because they are very good for my hair but if i do not have a choice i will use other product (if my hair support it)
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
detangling my hair every evening with water/castor oil/conditioner
yes i followed my goals somehow.
my goals is to have a better diet and drink more water so my hair can be healthier and grow more as well. ( hope so…)

  • Shante Sanders

One thing about being natural that I am so over is… moisturizing
my hair, BOL! Which is a must or my hair will become so unhealthy and badly damaged
like it was prior to my transition. As for hair products, I prefer all natural/organic
products along with the few Motions products I am currently using. Last week, I
ran out of Castor Oil and couldn’t find the same brand anywhere in my area so I
had to settle for a few days with the regular OKAY castor oil instead of their
Okay Haitian Black Castor Oil. But thank God for being a regular at my local
hair store, the store owner order a shipment for his store. YAY!!! Now, I will
be able to return to my original Castor Oil but, I haven’t broken my goal of my
    oiling regimen.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=548934518 Katrina Pittman

    1. I am over the hair war: natural vs. relaxed, all of the overpriced products, and people that keep saying “fros and natural hair are back in I see.” I just love being natural and having healthy hair. I love the positive and uplifting comments that I get… “Ooohhhh your hair is so thick”, Wow your hair has grown, your fro looks good on you”

    2. I prefer natural products simply from the book, Going Natural that I bought while I transitioned. It gave me really good tips and indigents that I should avoid and I stuck with all natural products. Shea Moisture’s products leave my hair very moisturized, soft and shinny.

    3. No challenges. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I continue to put the JBCO on my scalp, ends, and edges. It works for me. The smell does not bother me anymore.

  • Danielle Thibeadeaux

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
The frizz, I enjoy every other aspect of my hair and its coiling, but after a while the frizz just gets to happy and makes me look like i just rolled out of bed.

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?

I do prefer “all natural”, before a few months ago i had no idea what being natural was and how some of the products i previously used were effecting my hair in a negative way. But now these products that are sulfate free, paraben free and so on have shown me a new side of my hair a side that i love.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
Last week was a little tough, I didnt follw my regimen completely i had ran out of JBCO and didnt use my Pharmacy castor oil as much and I hadn’t co-washed my hair in about 4 days, BUT i just got my JBCO in the mail today and I washed my hair so Im happy and feeling good!
The biggest challenge is being in college and having to constanly maintain my hair, even though some days I just want to fall into bed and not have anything to do with it until the morning :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/brenda.m.coleman Brenda Marshall Coleman

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? Being newly natural there is so much information. I am on information overload. I have just decided to do what works for my hair. Keep it simple.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? I am careful about products since I have allergies. Sometimes all natural is too much for me.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Good Did you follow through with your goals? Yes. I was able to apply nightly as I planned and in the morning just a spritz of my water bottle and I was good to go. Any challenges thus far? No challenges.

  • http://www.facebook.com/brandi.richardson.54 Brandi Richardson

I tried to check in last week, but my computer was acting funky….so to update (even though I’m a week behind)
    LENGTH CHECK:
1)Front – [before] middle of my nose [now] top of my lips
2)side – [before] under jaw bone [now]almost half down my neck
    3) back – [before] ball bone on neck [now] a little past that ball
So…I’m seeing results and I am happy
    ***** NOW ****** This week’s check-in answers:
    1) This might be a little weird..but I am over the little curl balls that I get when I comb out my hair sometimes. I could be combing out my hair, and I will see a little tiny curl ball fall…and I get little curls all on my shirt. I need to work on my shedding, I guess
    2) I am trying to use products that don’t have the silicone, parabens, sulfates, etc. It doesn’t have to be completely organic because they are too expensive for me, but I’m trying to steer clear of the more hurtful hair products.
    3) I have done pretty good..the one challenge I’m seeing is that the middle of my head will itch occasionally, it bugs the MESS out of me! When I oil my scalp with the castor oil, I concentrate on that spot and massage that area. Also, my edges don’t seem like it has changed much..I’m not seeing anything in that area….irk!!

  • Deanna H.

    1. I’m so over the single strand knots and detangling. But detangling is so necessary! I’m also over my hairs being EVERYWHERE: in the bathroom, on the carpet, on the sink…shall I go on?
    2. Well I’m a SheaMoisture girl myself so that is the base that I go from. I do like trying new products, but I try to stay with the no sulfates, no this, no that, yadda yadda yadda track. But if someone does a review on it (like Jenell!!!) and it works for them AND they have similar hair to mine, I give it a go! I wanted tofind what works for my hair, particularly stylers, I experience frizzy hair so I’m exploring natural gels and jellys to see what will combat that. But I love fluffy hair so I will rock that frizzy in a heartbeat.
    3. I’m doing good so far with sticking to it. And I definitely see a difference. It’s not so hard since I didn’t set a goal of using the oil every day. So sometimes I use the Curl Enhancing Smoothie on my edges or another creamy product instead of the oil. But these products have different oils so it’s all beneficial!!!

    • Nish Wallace

You should check kinkycurl coily me’s video she uploaded maybe last week on detangling being a breeze, if you haven’t already

    • Kam

My hair gets everywhere, too! Sometimes I even find little strands of hair in my bedroom and my boyfriend’s car, lol.

  • Lovey

-Being natural – I love everything about it but share the sentiments of some of the other naturalistas that have responded. What I’m over is people’s reactions, responses and opinions about what I do with MY hair! I can’t understand for the life of me why what God blessed me with is a problem. God knew what He was doing! And if one more “person” tries to pet me…! Well…I’ve gotten into the habit of slapping hands. Personally, I haven’t been given grief by any relaxed ladies, but a family member told my daughter, who is also natural, that she needed to cut her hair because it’s too bushy. Even though that hurt my daughter’s feelings, she stopped me from disrespecting my elder.
-Natural/organic vs anything – I’m all natural baby, and I love it.
-Week 5 progress – At this point, I’m a creature of habit…no challenges. My future mother-in-law commented on how thick my hair has gotten :) .

  • http://www.facebook.com/NaturalShanese Shanese Plummer-Bandy

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?

I’m so over my hair not being dry the next morning.

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?

My hair responds really well to natural products especially products I make myself. But I will use other products just because I’m a product junky!!

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

I’m doing very well, experiencing some great growth as this is my second challenge. Using castor oil has become second nature!!

  • Nish Wallace

OK so I thought I posted this…this morning but I come back on to see it’s not here. So here I go again, lol
    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
I’m so over the re twisting at night for my twist outs or bantu knot outs, the pineapple seems to work with me when its wants to, but other than that i’m in love with my hair and how it grows out of my scalp.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I dont mind using products that are not all natural, for example. The motions naturally you moisturizing shampoo is not sulfate free, however I did not know it until after I washed my hair. Lemme tell you my hair did not feel stripped at all and still had moisture. The smoothing conditioner was AWESOME at detangling but the ingredients are not all that great. As long as a product does not contain many sulfates (i can do 1) and cheap filler ingredients like petroletum lanolin mineral oil etc. I”m good. If my hair likes the product than I will continue to use it.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I’ve been doing the same thing which is oiling my edge4s, and scalp and massaging. I took my semi mini twists out and it was so much easier to oil my scalp then and now I have to part and break apart sections etc. ‘
    4. I took pics last week but bc of these grad schools papers i did not have a chance to upload them so here goes.

    • Nish Wallace

I wanted to use the same shirt all the way through the challenge but ummm yeah black was not the best choice so before my hair did not reach my tank top now it is past it so I changed the color of my tank so you could see it.

    • lori924

      your hair is thriving!!!

      • Nish Wallace

Yes it is…The back is making better progress than the front though…

Thick and pretty curls….How long have you been natural?

  • Lakeisha Harrell

I’m over the “seperation” of women who are natural and relaxed…to me we should all walk in love and treat each other as such. I prefer what ever makes my hair healthy and keeping it healthy. I’ve tried all natural items and they didn’t work and I’ve tried some not so natural products that didn’t work. I think different things work on different folks. I know I don’t believe in paying a bunch of money for products…no ma’am, lol! I’m very proud if myself because I went a whole doing it right…actually using JBCO 5 days out of the week!

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? my shed hair…im over that… i hate seeing it all over the shower when i wash.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I prefer natural products but I will use whatever works. I now co-wash most of the time BUT I’m cool with shampoo every now and then.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I have been doing well I use my jbco/rosemary oil mix every day pretty much and and have seen growth in my hairline and I love it. I also am contemplating using it as a hot oil treatment. We will see.

I seeeee progress, keep it up. Nice

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
Like many others, I am so over there being so many “rules” to going natural, I love my hair and I will put whatever I want in it because it mines lol. On a more personal level I’m over twisting my hair up everynight! lol It’s the only way it stays moisturized though

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I switch back in forth through natural products and the anything products. As long as a product works for my hair im good. I wash my hair a lot anyway so silicones don’t bother me, My hair is growing faster than it ever has in my life, and it’s not because of a good or bad product it’s because I’m finally taking care of my hair!
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I tried Kinky Curly curling custard for the first time last week and wore that for a couple of days so I only put castor oil on my edges and scalp and not the full head, My front section of hair is still giving me all kids of problems also lol

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
I have not been natural for 15 years so I can’t appropriately respond to this question. When I was natural my hair was so kinky and unmanageable that I hated it, but now I am learning how to embrace my curls. At this point I have the line of demarcation that is really troubling me with the two textures of hair, unfortunately.

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I have never used organic products, but am open to trying some. Organic in any form is generally better, I believe. I will research and try organic products.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges ?

I am staying on track with my regimen and following through with my goals. I have not noticed a big difference this past week, and my transitioning challenge remains. I am at the point that I want to buy the creamy crack, but I wont and I want to do the big chop but dont have the nerves to do so. I will continue using the JBCO on my scalp, edges, eyebrows and to seal.

    • jcb3wg

Kim I feel your pain I am transitioning also and I hate the stringy mess on the ends of my natural hair but I cannot bring myself to chop off my relaxed ends I find myself wanting to keep them…..UGH!
How does the JBCO work on your eyebrows?

      • http://www.facebook.com/KimGodsChild Kim Hooks-Hooper

Exactly!! Actually for the first time in years I am seeing strands of hair on my eyebrows in areas that have bee bare. Little did I know that years of plucking back in the day destroyed my brows. JBCO is definitely working. I will, stick with it. We can do this transition, right?? :-)

      • http://www.facebook.com/KimGodsChild Kim Hooks-Hooper

My feelings EXACTLY on the stringy mess! The JBCO is working well on my eyebrows. I see hairs now where I haven’t seen in years!!

  • Onikki Johnson

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? I am so over the funny looks i get when people look at my hair.

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?I am open to anything because i am still looking for what works best on my hair.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?yes i followed through with my goals. I am really loving how thick and full my hair is growing.

  • http://www.facebook.com/angela.alston.3 Angela Alston

    1) Sometimes I get bored with styling because my hair really swells in humid weather. So I mostly wear my hair in a puff.

    2) I try to use natural products. However if something works for me and it is not natural I will use it on occasion.

    3) I wasn’t able to upload my pic last week. But I did a length check. My growth was about 1/2 an inch.

  • bosslady

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
sometimes the thickness of my hair, but I try to remember not everyone is as lucky. with Patience, i am remaining sane.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I prefer all natural/ organic products, but in the past I have tried non natural/non organic products on my hair.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
Last week i did ok, I continue to moisturize my hair/scalp and ends especially

  • clarice doctor

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? Yes totally, I am completely over the fact of how much of a big deal everyone is making over being natural. I is what you prefer but I believe it is a choose no matter what.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? Honestly I will try what ever works, however for me I have found that natural /organic products work pretty good in my hair.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did feel kind of like I was bored, I did do my normal scalp massage along with adding to my edges and moisturizing. But it is boring process.

  • jcb3wg

We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
I am so over tryiing to please everybody! My natural friends say I anit natural enough and my relax friends always looking at my hair waiting for me to relax my hair again! LOL

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
No I don’t prepare natural products over the others I don’t care if my hair don’t care.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did just ok last week I only used the JBCO in my deep conditioner, I dont really see any challenges thus far well I guess its a challenge sometime to put the oil on because of the smell but he results are so great.

  • Chiquita

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? I am so over twa phase. I know its apart of the journey but I just wanna be able to style my hair differently and there os only so much you can do with a twa.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I am open to using anything that will meke my hair thrive and grow. If my hair likes it, then I wanna use it.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? Last week I kind of slacked off with using my castor bc I was knocked out of my routine. I am finding that my hair is super duper dry is becoming a challenge even more for me, but today I switched LOC method and did LCO for the first time and I must say “she” (my hair) is liking that much better. Let’s see if this can continue. :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/mseels Maureen Seels

I love being natural but I am so over the shrinkage and the twisting every night. I am open to using anything until I find the perfect one for me. I used the jbcc every day.

    • Kam

That is exactly why I wear my hair in protective styles. I rock a twist out probably once every couple months for about a week. That twisting every night is just not for me. Plus, I love the convenience of waking up, taking off my satin cap, applying some moisturizer, and going about my day.

DETANGLING!!! TAKES FOREVER!!!! I’m so over it!!
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I’m open to using anything that works, lol. I’m not currently too into all natural products although most of the products I use are all natural except my conditioner.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did good as usual. I’m still applying to my scalp a minimum of 5 nights a week and using it to seal in my water. Still need to get a handle on itchy scalp though when it comes to the castor oil.

    1. I dont know any more if im loving being natural. This transitioning hair is crazy Its as if I gave up.
    2. As of right now it really doesnt matter to me if it is natural organic products Its simple what ever I can get my hands on.
3.Didnt oil my hair or do any thing to it in a week. I dont wanna say I gave up but I feel like Im gonna be going back too that white crack soon.
some pictures of my hair right now I finally took it out and washed it. Planing on doing a braid out tomorrow. On the bright side of stuff my hair line is growing back. Thanks jamaican black castor oil

    • Truladi

You can make it girl…stay away from the creamy crack LOL!!! your hair will love you for it.

      • Tawnee001

Yes, don’t give up! It takes some patience and good habits to get where you need to be. Like kiandra said it will pay off!

    • kiandra

Dont give up on your hair just yet! you can do it girl, you just need patience and it will pay off, trust me!

yay at least your hair line is growning well.. good for you.. I understand you and whatever you decide to do, just do it.. just a bit of advise… if you do go back to the creamy crack make sure your hair is strong and healthy so that you dont have breakage.. im sure you have learned a lot while beining natural and maybe you can apply what youve learned going forward. My good friend went back to the creamy crack for a year and then cut it all off last month and decided to go back natural! lol but hey its up to you.. good luck in making your decision.. God Bless… by the way your edges do look good!

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? Knots and tangles…hate them!!
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I prefer organic and natural products because I’ve seen videos and studies that talk about certain man-made ingredients that are bad for natural hair or can cause damage with long-term use. I want to keep my hair (and body) healthy and unharmed from such ingredients.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I used the castor oil for co–washes, pre-poo, and mixed with l-i conditioner, aloe vera juice, and jojoba oil (kimmaytube recipe). I did follow through with my goals.

  • Shekeya

    1. Right now I guess I would say that I am so over this “in between stage”. I don’t have a TWA but not enough length for a “neat” ponytail. On my lazy days I just want to be able to do a bun and just go LOL. I must say that this is not frustration, I love my hair and being natural!!

    2. I prefer “all natural” products. I’m still new to my healthy hair journey so I just want to use products with beneficial ingredients.

    3. This week I mainly focused on my scalp and not my ends. The only challenge I’m having right now is the fact the castor oil feels to heavy at times no matter how little or infrequent I use it.

  • vickey

    1) i can honesty say i love everything about the natural world, im not over anything
    2) i”m open to products that are natural. im a 3month new natural and still experimenting with different products.
    3) i did quite well, routine is still the same, and hair is growing like weeds :) dats a goid thing.

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
I am over the “natural nazis.” Seriously is it truly necessary to berate someone for not doing the Curly Girl method, or for being a product junkie, or for not using all natural products, etc? I don’t think so! It is irritating to get the unsolicited advice about how if you were doing . . . then your hair would be . . . No two heads are alike so why would our natural hair journeys be the same. Personally unless I ask for advice about what to do fro my hair then please do not offer it to me.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I am open to using anything. I love experimenting and trying new products, which proves that I am a product junkie. In seriousness I like trying new products to see what my hair responds to and what it doesn’t. Also it allows me to not have a dependence on one product or product line so that just in case something happens to change the said product or product line I can go to an alternative and be fine.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
Last week was SO much better than the week before because I wasn’t as busy as I was the week before. I was able to do a scalp massage, sealing and concentrate on some thin areas. I was able to get a hot oil treatment done which I loved, a bit messy but a nice treat for my hair. My goal was to get back on the saddle and I did so yes I followed through with my goal for the week.

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
No, I can’t really say that I am “over” anything. I enjoy styling my hair especially since it is growing at a steady pace.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I have tried both and there are “certain” organic products that I like, for example coconut milk organix shampoo & conditioner and I LOVE all natural products.. They leave my hair so soft and managable. Easy to style and detangle, it give it s shine and the strands look so healthy.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
Last week I fell off by one day, I was just too tired to stay up and apply castor oil to my hair I had worked a 14 hour day. I did follow through with one goal, I said that I was gonna flat twisy my hair and style it & I did just that and it turned out beautifully I will have to post pictures. Every since I got the hang of my hair regimen down thing have gotten a lot easier as far as maintaining my hair. So all my challenges are behind me!!

  • http://twitter.com/bee_reen Brittani Johnson

    1. I would say I’m so over the maintenance. I was under the misconception that natural hair would be less maintenance. 2. Boy, have I learned otherwise! I use some all natural products, but unfortunately they’re usually too pricey for me to use everything natural. At the end of the day, I feel it boils down to what works best in your hair. 3. I did we’ll last week. I’m already seeing the difference in my hair!

  • bklyncurly

. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? I am so over being a product junkie. In the begining I was buying and trying everything…now I can’t be bothered. I finally know what products work for me and I’m sticking to them.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? I currently doing the curly girl method so I tend to stick with natural products. Why?
I find that I don’t make mistakes when the products are all natural, I purchased a new conditioner and didn’t realize that it had silicones in it. 3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Week 5 was difficult for me, had major hair issues. Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? My challenges so far has been time, not finding the time to use the castor oil as much as I want.

  • Anita Givens

1we all love being natural but is there anything about being natural you are so over. Im over what other people think about being natural in a professional setting. I love my Afro. 2do you prefer all natural product or are you open to using anything? I have used a few products that are not natural. I am still trying to find the products that are right for my hair. I think I’m am a 4c. 3How did you do last week (last week 5) did you you follow through with your goal. Any challenges? I used my castor oil but I’m still immobile. So it hard to wash my hair among other things.

  • http://www.facebook.com/primab Prima Burney

    1. Learning how to style it. One day something works and the next it doesn’t.
    2. I use both …it’s about what I can find to purchase.
    3. I met my goal and also started using JBCO purchased from amazon. The biggest challenge has been my face breaking out. I work out at least six days a week.

  • http://www.facebook.com/adria.williams.33 Adria Williams

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
I am so over bantu knots. I have tried them every way possible and no such luck. So I guess my hair doesn’t like that particular style. I’m also over the whole re-twisting at night, but i have to do it to keep my definition.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I use Shea Moisture products, but I have been known to dabble in other products
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did great applied castor oil to my mini twist daily.

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
Honestly, I am loving everything about natural hair right now. After four years of not knowing how to properly care for my natural hair, this fourth year is my 2nd wind…my hair is grateful.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why
I’m seeing better results with natural products but I’m not sure if that’s a result of me putting more effort into my hair now where as when I used other types of products I did it with a lack of knowledge/understanding of natural hair care. I’m loving Shea Moisture all natural products right now.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I struggled last week…I put my hair up in mini twists so enjoyed doing nothing to my hair ( I did co wash once and oiled my scalp but that was it)! Will do better this week. Interesting though, there must be many Castor Oil challengers in my area, the health food store is out of JBCO until next week….they are never out of JBCO..

  • http://twitter.com/TeacherMrsAllen Mrs. Allen

I’m so over people asking me stupid questions about my hair. I know that I should be more patient and forgiving, but some questions are just annoying. I currently like using silicone free products and I have my favs. I like to use products that are natural but there are some that I like that others would frown upon. In general I use oils and water. Less is more when it comes to my hair. I did well last week and I can definitely see the growth in my pics. I am excited to be developing a real regimen that is working so far.

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
The only thing I’m “so over” is having people ask how long I plan on remaining natural. How about FOREVER! I’m loving my natural journey and I am proud of the “ME” I see daily when I look in a mirror.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I am open to using anything that provides my hair with the moisture, shine, and manageability that I love. I have used some natural products, but I’ve found that the other provide me with what I need to be happy with my hair.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did a great job last week. Most of the week I wore mini twists, but I oiled my scalp and misted it with water & castor oil. I do see growth and I havent’ encountered any challenges thus far.

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
I love being natural, but I am so over waiting for my hair to grow out. I take care of my hair and do all I need to.. I really want to Big Chop.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? It does not matter…I am open to using any product. Why? I can pick and choose the products that I like and find inexpensive.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Oiled my scalp with the castor oil. Did you follow through with your goals? I did follow through with my goals. Any challenges thus far? Finding a regimen that I am happy with at this time.

  • Truladi

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?

Well I’m not natural…I’m a transitioner and sometimes I’m like I wish my hair just turn all natural over night LOL!!! I know that’s not possible so I have to learn to be patient…I could BIG CHOP but I don’t have enough new growth where I would be comfortable with my hair if I did so I just have to use some of that patience it’s the best hair grower…LOL!!!! sometimes I’m so over wash day with the pre-poo and deep conditioner and everything else it entails, it takes me all day I guess that’s why it’s called wash day huh LOL!!!

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
Right now some of my products are all natural and some are not hopefully I will get to the place where all of my products are all natural. My shampoos are sulfate free and one of my moisturizers also is sulfate free. All natural products can be a little expensive so that’s why I have to pick and choose which products I want to be all natural and which ones are not…for now.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
Well last week was a good week for me I am keeping up the momentum as far as using my JBCO I’m the kind of person if I know the results I can get I’m going to do everything I can do to get optimal results so yes I have been going hard all the way through still concentrating on my edges but this week I mixed the JBCO into my scalp creme and it was great on my hair my new growth is much softer and easier to comb and as usual I use it on my edges at least twice a day once in the morning and once at night.

  • Kam

    1. I’m over the negative comments I hear about natural hair. I could care less how others wear/style their hair, so why should anyone have something to say about my natural hair?

    2. I prefer all natural/organic products. Ever since I did the big chop February 17, 2011, I have been more conscious of what goes in and on my body.

    3. Last week I remained consistent in applying Jamaican black castor oil to my hair and scalp 3 times. So far, I haven’t experienced any challenges.

  • http://twitter.com/Netta__love92 Netta

    1. I think I’m over protective styling. I’ve run out of ideas, I’m not particularly good at any of it, and I’ve just O-V-E-R it all smh. Lately, I’ve been doing mostly twist outs because they come out cute. Today I wore a braid out in idk how long lol. I think I just need a little more hair-spiration and a friend to hook up some cute braids or flat twists and I’ll be alright.

    2. I don’t care about the whole “natural” products thing. My hair seems to need a little chemical from time to time lol. I tried a natural shampoo for a month and a half and only used unrefined coconut oil, evoo, and unrefined shea butter and my hair was ANGRY!!! Charlamagne was cursing me out from the time I started that until the moment I went back to my HEHH regime.

    3. Last week was alright. I did a pre-poo with castor oil and coconut oil as well as sealing my ends with it. I also got this pretty decent braid out with it for work today. I’ve been doing a lot better as far as using it on my ends and for my edges.

  • angela cobb

    1. I am wayyyyy over the question if you color your hair does that make you natural. I genetically started graying in my late twenties. My grandma, mother, sister all went blond to cover the grey!! I am estactic about my journey, I treat my hair like a baby, Oct 9th I will be heading in to 9mths of being natural. I get my hair professionally colored & maintained, I was bummed she gave me a trim last tues…LOL!!! But I know with trimming, keeping my hair moisturized & using JBCO I will have thick healthy beautiful hair.
    2. I prefer using all organic products, I love the idea of using natural products on my hair. I find it fascinating what each item does for your hair. I appreciate Shea Moisture listing & breaking down what shea butter, yucca, coconut, neem etc, do to my hair. I have begun to frequent a local health food store, Giovanni has become one of my favorite products and they sell it on there shelves. Organic, no animal products, as I become conscious of my body, I am becoming more sensitive to what I put on my hair & body as well as in it!! Realizing that what I eat, I can use on my hair has made a big difference in how I treat & maintain my body as well as my 2 daughters.
    3. I had a great week!! As I stated I got my hair color touched up & trimmed. As soon as I got on I treated my hair with JBCO, I have keep my edges massaged, and have done a all over scalp treatment & sealed my ends aftter I twist, I used JBCO about 5x this week, I need to place another order, but I go hard on the usage because of my color, JBCO leaves my hair extra soft, and my coils are utterly amaizing, I think to myself I hid this great head of hair for so many years, what a shame…..But no regrets going FORWARD!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/michelle.bellevilla Michelle Belle-Villa

I tried posting early this morning but it didn’t go through…hope this works. I will try to recall most of my answer:
    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? I’m over some sistas, brothers and others saying “Wow your hair is getting long. It would be really long if you had a relaxer.” The hair decision is ours alone. It’s our choice to be natural. Everything is not for everybody. You have to do what feels right for you.

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/ organic” products are or are you open to using anything? Why? I prefer natural/organic products but have used some less that 100% natural products that have worked for my hair. As long as it keeps my hair happy, I’m happy.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges? I consistently used my JBCO on my edges, scalp and ends. Just call me glossy. No major challenges.

    HAPPY HAIR JOURNEY!

  • http://twitter.com/FeistyFirstLady Feisty First Lady

I’m so over society not accepting our hair as professional.

I’m pretty much open. I will try just about anything.

I followed through on my goals. My only challenge right now is my ends. They seem rough still, even putting castor oil on them. *shrugs*

  • http://www.facebook.com/MoCheri36 Monique Bezear

I’ve only been natural for about a year so I’m still enjoying the ride. I try to use all natural or as close to it as I can get. I followed thru as planned last week & so far the only challenge was the itching from the JBCO but now I mix it with coconut oil & it helped.

    • http://www.facebook.com/MoCheri36 Monique Bezear

I realized I missed the why? As in why I prefer natural products. I prefer them simply cause my hair does & I realize now that everything I put on my skin, & the scalp is skin, is absorbed into my body & I am trying to be more aware of what I put in my body.

  • newtonaturalhair

Hi ladies. I love being a natural but I am so over the wash n go. I’m thinking about getting some kinky twist to give my twa a break from my hands. Also now that the weather has changed, the wash n go is really not a option at this time. DO I PREFER NATURAL PRODUCTS?? YES I do but if there is a products that makes my hair feels stronger and more healthier but does not have natural ingredients I would consider that product. IN WEEK 5, well it was a busy week for me so I only use castor oil twice and as a sealer. This week I plan on using it more on my scalp and as a leave in treatment. Until next time ladies!!

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? Im just so over people who aren’t natural calling our natural curls “naps”…and how they say they will never go natural because its too much work…..just sad to hear that
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I do prefer all natural products, but I am not against using products that are not ALL natural. As long as my hair gets the treatment and nourishment it needs, Im happy.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I followed through my goals pretty well…did a hot oil treatment and still oiling my scalp 3-5x a week.

  • newtonaturalhair

Sorry I posted earlier actually twice,it didn’t show it. So I posted again Lol. Guess I wasn’t the only one with that problem

    1. I’m “so over” people always saying how I’m able to pull off the “Natural hair” but they say they can’t do it. We didn’t come out of our Mother’s womb with a relaxer on our hair. I don’t look down or pity anyone who has a relaxer, because that is their choice.
    2. For the most part I stick with products which contain natural ingredients because my hair does not react well to many of the products which are not natural. I’m open to trying new things but I try not to do that too often because my hair doesn’t always like it and I don’t want to be a product junkie.
    3. Last week went well. I started mixing my castor oil with other oils to cut down on the itchy scalp. My hair is mini-twists and I’ve been keeping them up in protective styles to keep my hands out of my hair and to also retain moisture. I was pretty pleased with my hair results this week because my ends haven’t felt this moisturized in a long time.

  • newtonaturalhair

Hi Ladies, this is my fourth time trying to post my status on castor oil. Hopefully it goes thru!!! I love being a natural but i am so over the wash n go and the twa. It’s not much you can do to my hair at this point of time. Im thinking about getting kinky twist so i can give my twa a break from my hands and also time to appreciate my twa. Fortunely for me I havent heard any negative thoughts about my natural hair.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
Well Yes i do prefer natural products but i am open to any products that is going to get my hair stronger, longer and more healthier. Why?? Because natural products doesnt strip my hair out as much as products with silicones products. My hair maintain softness. Keep in mind, I AM STILL LOOKING FOR MY SIGNATURE PRODUCTS.
How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far???
Well Week 5 was a busy week for me. I work alot of overtime so i couldnt really use the cator oil the way i would have liked to. I use in twice as a sealer. My only goals is to keep maintaing my healthy hair and to grow length. I am still getting use to having short hair. This week(week6) i plan on using it on my scalp and as a hot oil treatment.

Q1.) We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
A1.)I do not have natural hair, my hair is relaxed.
Q2.) Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
A2.)I am opened to trying anything as long as my hair responds to the product in a positive way.
Q3.) How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
A3). I accomplished all my hair goals, last week, I did fairly well.

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? Yes I’m so over the “texture” charts, or what’s your texture hair questions… I answering from now on healthy!!
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I’m actually still looking for that “staple” product. I can’t truly say I’m into one vs the other, seeing that when I co-wash I’m using a cheapo conditioner, which of course isn’t organic/natural. I just want my hair to be happy , so I can be happy… lol
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? Ugggh I experienced a few dry patches on my scalp, I added a new product well I would say I used a diferent dye, an I believe that was the ciulprit to my dry, itchy, flaky scalp. So I only applied the JBCO on my ends 2xs last week, kept my curls in a protective style(finger coils) until my scalp was back to normal.

    • kiandra

I hate the texture charts too, I think they tell you nothing about your hair that you cant find out my simply handling it yourself… Happy hair journey!!

      • http://twitter.com/AFeistyOne White Whisper

I was bugging when I 1st BC’d trying to find my “hair type”, then realized later on, it doesn’t matter. Those charts aren’t accurate, btw who came up with that do you know?

  • Naturallyme39

Im so over needing to order products online to get what my hair loves. The beauty supplies n my area r full of stuff I won’t use for 1 reason or another.
I prefer natural products but will use a product w cones/mineral oil if necessary.
I stuck To my goals this week still n a protective style using the castor oil to massage Mt scalp and seal my ends

I am over people belittling others for whatever they choose to do with their hair; whether it kinky, permed, pressed, colored, or texturized we are all beautiful! I like more organic products but I love any product that can tame the wild best on my head. I am hanging in there with my goals, but at time getting frustrated because I am not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel yet. I have more thickness which I love but NO length yet. Trying to hold strong!

  • Kiandra

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? I think I’m over the natural vs relaxed war, I think we shouldnt be fighting but sharing information so that we all have great hair journeys.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I now prefer using more “natural” or “organic” products because I see that my hair is responding to them very well but, I am open to using almost any product as long as my hair is happy, I’m happy.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? Last week I wasnt able to use my castor oil like I wanted to but, this week I am going to pre-poo with it and start my week off right! I dont think I have any major challenges thus far, I just want my egdes to keep growing in!

  • http://www.facebook.com/karlene.joseph Karlene James Joseph

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? Hmm… It used to be that I hated that my hair was unpredictable – sometimes manageable and growing, sometimes dry and breaking. Now I know it was ‘user error’ and too much product switching. I don’t have that problem anymore and I feel in love with my hair again!
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I find that I have to find a product line and products that work for me. Some organic products do not work well with my hair. I am all into Shea Moisture presently, the deep treatment masque and curl enhancing smoothie are my staples. Going to rest with these for a minute.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? Life is bliss! Fresh cut, looking forward to hanging with these locs for a spell.

  • lori924

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? Im so over people calling us naturals “nappy” as if they were born with there hair relaxed. Granted everybody has different hair texture but dont be mad because im embracing my hair.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I am open to using any product as long as it does what it says it will do. I do eventually want to transition to all natural hair product because i feel like my hair may thrive more. My ultimate goal is to be using all natural products for my body and hair and possibly become some type of vegan.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did well this week. Yeyyy!! I used my castor oil 5 days last week and also used it when I deep conditioned hair. Castor Oil is officially a staple for me, no challenges this week. I think i may need a trim soon

  • http://twitter.com/IamNads Nadine Stewart

    1. I am so over all of the effort – the twisting, the untwisting, retwisting, the knots and the shedding that results from all of the above. I am so over worrying about too much manipulation. I am so over worrying about pulling too hard on my hairline. I am so over the challenge of trying to find protective styles that I can do myself (I can’t cornrow/flat twist very well) and that still look cute. Overall, I’m enjoying my natural hair journey BUT it’s definitely not easy!

    2. Since discovering KCCM and other sites like it, I have become aware of the importance of ‘natural/organic’ ingredients in hair products, in particular, keeping an eye out for parabens, mineral oil, petroleum and silicones. I definitely prefer natural ingredients but funnily enough, I haven’t yet found a ‘natural’ product that can hold one of my twist outs in the same way that Miss Jessie’s Curly Pudding or Curls Unleashed Curl Defining Creme do. Both of those products contain what people class as ‘undesirable’ ingredients.

    3. Week 5 was good. I followed through with everything – edges nightly, sealing in moisture and scalp twice. All good!

  • http://www.facebook.com/zeena.sally Zeena Sally

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
I am only a little over 3 months in my transition and so far I love it. Now post this question in another 6 months and I may tell you different. LOL
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I would like to use natural products but I’ll use a product that isn’t natural if it is good for the hair. The main reason why I have decided to go natural was because I wanted healthy hair. I had healthy hair when it was relaxed thanks to my wonderful stylist but that was drastically changed once I had my Lupus flare up and it took off some of my hair. My stylist from that point on decided it would be best due to my illness to just be natural. I agree with her and look forward to the one day where my entire head has the hair I was born with.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I still kept up with oiling my scalp and nape. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to post pics last week for the length check my hair has grown A LOT. :) I will post pictures shortly Stay tuned. My only goal is to actually complete this challenge. The one challenge I have come across during the challenge is as the weeks go by my hair is getting thicker and thicker. Whew. It’s a task to wash and style every week but I love it anyway.

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I am open to using anything that WORK!!! I stayed on a buget relaxed so I am determined to stay on one while natural!!! so I try to find products in a good price range to try and if it work it work.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far
I only applied the oil on twice this week due to adding a few extra washes in.

I am so over the folk who claim that if God wanted us to be nappy head he would not allow man to invent perms. I like my nappy hair now damn it and I did not ask ur opinion.
    2. It doesn’t matter to me rather it is natural or refined…as long as it is affordable.
    3. I used it as a hot oil bfore getting my next braid up, and I use it daily to oil my scalp.

  • KVal

    1. I def. Love my natural hair, but I am def so over having to do all my treatments. My hair is longer now and thick thick thcik lol so it takes dam near all day too treat and style…. O well I love it thou lol..

    2. I think somethi is wrong with this I can’t c anything I’m typing… Anyway excuse my errors, I have been having problems since yesterday… Ok ok I don’t really mind either, I just really go by word of mouth and what my hair seems to love.. So far my hair loves things that have a lot of oioils and no sulfate products.

3.3. I maintained my regime this week.. Actively oiling my edges and scalpe. I think I am going to try a deep hot oil treatment zsoon. Man I hope it’s not to difficu too read.

  • petrina pryor

    1. Im so over the shrinkage. At nighy i can style my hair just right but when its
time to go out zap the hair shrinks. Ugh. But i keep trying.
    2. I’m open. I try making my own natural products as well. Im searching for whatever makes my hair look and feel good.
    3. Last week was good i massaged my scalp and used the castor oil leave in conditioner daily. The will be staples in my regimen.

  • Happiness!!

I checked in yesterday, but it did not show up for some reason. Oh well, I will make this shorter then. I am so over protective styling. I try to use mostly things which I could eat and week 6 will be much better because week 5 was slightly disastrous…. lol

  • Tamrenb

I posted, looks like my didn’t make it either. Lets try again.

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?

As a lot of you have said, the natural vs relaxed debate. As long as you have healthy hair, ganging up on people because of how they wear their hair is unnecessary to me. I think that we all have the freedom to wear our hair anyway we want- but we should be proud of what is growing on the scalp always and make sure it thrives.

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?

At first, I would try to use just about anything, but I’ve seen myself buying more natural based products. The reason is because I want to really know what exactly I’m putting on my hair and to make sure it doesn’t hinder the growth.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far

I think I did well. Been very adamant about applying the castor oil at least 3-4 times a week. I think the biggest challenge is keeping the scarf on my hair and not on the floor!

  • Cherlyn

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? TWA is now at a mid length. This MWA takes a lot more care and time. Who know becoming an natural would take so much work.

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
As long as it doesnt have the filler that the natural sites tell me to stay from Im good.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
im going well. staying on track.

  • Michele

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? Omg, I am so tired of people touching my hair and exclaiming, “for a dark skin person you got good hair.” It is just straight up ignorant and I am just tired of it. After wearing my hair natural for so many years I still encounter people who makes those comments.
Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? Yes, I prefer all natural products. I find the more naural the product, the healthier my hair and scalp. I use to suffer from dry, flaky scalp until I was introduced to SM products. Once I started using SM, my scalp has not given me any itching or flaking issues. Now my hair is growing because my scalp is the healthiest its ever been.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I didn’t do good. I massaged twice and moisturized nightly but thats it. I hope to do better this week.

      Mine either!!

I’m over the YouTube channel wars. There have been these ridiculous arguments between either the subscribers of the hair channels and/or the actual vbloggers themselves. I’ve unsubscribed from many and removed myself from the more militant blogs. I agree, there’s more to life than arguing over what someone does to the hair on their head.
As far as all natural vs. organic products go, I just stick to what my hair responds well to. I’ve tried more expensive organic brands and can’t we enough of a difference to justify paying $20 for a little bottle of something I’m going to wash down the drain. I stick to my regular regimen of castor oil scalp massage every night, Baggie method every other night, etc. my hair seems to be getting thicker, but still no edges.

  • http://www.facebook.com/deccie.turk Deccie Canady Turk

    It still did not post!!

  • Zeek R

    1. I don’t like the lack of versatility. My hair is not long enough to do many different styles (or I don’t know how to). So I do get bored with the same look all the time.

    2. I don’t really care if the products are organic or not. I just hate buying a product, not liking it, and being stuck with it, ugh.

    3. No challenges this week, kept up with my scalp oiling, conditioning as planned, loving how much softer my hair is, still resisting the big chop.

    • http://www.facebook.com/helen.henton.58 Helen Henton

if you have friends that are natural try getting together twice a year and doing swaps.. this way you dont feel like youre holding on to products that you didnt use… we do it and I always end up with something different…

I am so over all the different products. I am in the process of finding what my hair likes and sticking with them. I will use anything my hair likes. I am not caught up in natural products. I use castor oil in the loc method and on my scalp. No challenges thus far. I’m really enjoying the challenge! Next I want to learn to do flat twist! ;-)

  • Brittney Sewell

    1. I really couldn’t say I am soo over with my natural hair in any way because I am still newly post relaxed free for only 6 months now so my natural hair hasn’t yet grown all the way in Right now I would say no, I am very much enjoying my natural hair!

    2. I am very much open to use anything and the reason why is I am on a buget my lifestyle doesn’t allow me afford certain expensive products so I have to buy what my money can afford and Organic products are normally expensive for my pockets so thats why I dont care plus the affordable products I got now work well and just as good!

    3. I did well I use the castor oil to moisturize my scalp edges and I use it as a preoo and LOC method yes I did follow through with my goal hair is getting nice lenght shiner ect no challenges thus far!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=73601245 Kennitha Allahar

We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
Since I’m still transitioning I’m so over the two textures, which is why I’m so excited to cut the remainder of perm off at the end of the year.

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I’m open to using any type of products that my hair respond positive to.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any

    challenges thus far?
I did better than anticipated in week 5 and followed through and went beyond my goals. There’s no challenges this far. I’m already seeing results and is very excited to see the end results.

  • yana

    1. theres nothing that i am truely over with about my hair or natural hair.
    2. i have my all natural products and i have organic products that i use ..as long as my hair is happy i use it
    3. last week i was sick making it hard to take care of me and my hair but this week i have some making up to do

  • http://www.facebook.com/SabrinaBoissiere Sabrina Boissiere

    1. I am WAY OVER the overload of products. I feel like every hair company has jumped on the natural hair band wagon. Makes it hard for us lay folk to stick to one product because, let’s face it we are junkies for the next best thing! LOL
    2. I do prefer all natural (no sulfates/cones) in products because that was my main reason for giving up relaxers. A healthier all natural scalp.
    3. I have continued my usual routine and have actually embraced my 2 strand twist at day 4 and 5. I spend less time focusing on my hair and I’m just letting it be. I’m sticking to a low maintenance routine and not following every tom, dick n’ harry’s advice.

  • Tracey

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? Detangling..lol Detangling my hair is the hardest feat of my natural process.

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I am open to anything as long as it doesn’t contain alcohol because that strips my hairs and makes feel dry.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I have been following the same routine ( 3x a week applying the castor oil) . The only challenge I am facing is diluting the castor oil to make it less thick.

  • Tawnee001

    1. Like Arvetta said, I am totally over the natural vs. relaxer wars. I am not on a mission to convert anyone and I only offer advice if I am asked. If someone wants to relax, weave, braid, or do whatever to their hair, it really doesn’t bother me one bit. I love being natural and I love wearing my hair like this. But, I do realize that everyone else might not want to and that’s fine with me. I am pretty much the only natural woman in my family and I am also over everyone saying, “That natural thing works for you.” Ummmm, this is how we were born. LOL. But I’m also just amazed that it gathers so much conversation. I don’t want to sit and talk about my hair all day!

    2. I do prefer natural/organic products. I love to mix things together and I also like working with products that are multi-use (e.g. products I can use in my hair and on my skin OR products I can use in my hair and cook with). Also, price wise natural is where it’s at for me. I get natural products in bulk and just make a whole bunch to last (and for other family members–my husband LOVES the hair and body butters). Also, the natural stuff just works better for my hair. I figured out what worked for my strands in the very beginning and I just stuck with it. I wasn’t even trying to go there with that whole product junkie thing.

    3. Can I admit something? Last week was a struggle. I was out of town last week and didn’t want to bring the castor oil with me (messy) and I was so busy with work that I didn’t get a chance to buy any. My hair was dry, dry, dry AND dry! LOL. And, I didn’t put ANY moisture in it all week (mind you I also worked out like an animal). When I came home yesterday, I did a hot oil deep conditioner and had to cut some of the dry and brittle ends off. I’m jumping back on the bandwagon this week though (started today with castor in my conditioner). I have to figure out a way to take haircare seriously when I travel.

  • Banika

So over trying to find a product that works for my hair. Now i use products by AsIAm. This stuff is the business and castor oil is now my staple.

As long as the product agrees with my hair it doesn’t matter if its natural or organic.

Same as I did the last 5 wks

  • Kittykatu

I’m over what hair type are you 4a, 4b just enjoy your natural hair my 4b may might be the same as your’s but that does not mean I’m not a 4b!

Either as long as my hair agrees with the product!

Same routine and I’m sticking to it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/mecredi.cruder Mecredi Cruder

    1. I wish I could find a product that works on my hair . In some ways being natural is more expensive than a relaxer.
    2. At this point I don’t really care if it’s organic or not. I just want something that’s healthy for my hair.
    3. Last week was ok and hopefully this week will be better.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Elena.Wilkerson Letora Wilkerson Flowers

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
    No.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
Yes. I like to know what is going on my scalp and in my hair is natural.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
No. Life has been crazy lately just hard to keep up with hair when it’s so discouraging. I can’t figure out what products my hair likes because I don’t know how to tell if my hair doesn’t like a product. Just plain worn out!

  • http://www.facebook.com/IamYolanda Yolanda R. Arrington

I’m over not being able to get this hair straight so I can bounce between straight and curly. My hair just doesn’t like to comply.

I’ll use almost anything. I do try to stay away from products with alcohol. I am more aware of ingredients now that I’m natural.

The castor oil challenge is going well. I wore flexirods most of last week. Last night, I attempted to color my hair red but there’s too much jet black in it to lift the color. I’m scheduled to have it professionally colored this week, I really want to be a red head. I’m still using the oil on my brows. I’m excited to see what new growth I have by December on my brows and my hair. I haven’t had any issues with the oil challenge so far. I used the Huetiful last night and plan to put my humidifier back in my bedroom now that the weather has changed. I’m hoping the castor oil with the extra moisture will be even more helpful for growth.

  • Candie33

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? I would have to agree with the other ladies, the whole natural vs relaxer is so tiring. Everyone has a preference when it comes to their hair, what you choose to do with it is your business. I chose going natural because my hair was not healthy and was thinning, since becoming natural I have grown to love everything about it. At first, I wore fit pressed because I loved that look, but as time went on, I have come to love and appreciate the natural styles, even my twa in which I did a 2nd bc.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I don’t have a preference, when I first went natural I was stuck on all organic or natural but as time went on I use what works for my hair. Most of the products have been all natural but I do have a few that I continue to use that are not.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? Yes, I continued with my nightly regimen of scalp massages with jbco and other essentials oils. No challenges and I can tell my hair is thicken up.

  • http://www.facebook.com/denise.cobbs.96 Denise Cobbs

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? I’m so over the same styles. I know this is my fault since I haven’t explored different sytles besides twist outs and wash and go. Once my class is over i will have time to explore different styles.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I’m open to all products. If I the product and it works on my hair I use it.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did good last week. I haven’t had any challenges. I use castor oil more out of habit now more than anything.

  • Song_bird

    1. I’m “so over” the ignorance surrounding natural hair. I still get “looks” and see comments that are made about natural hair in general, but it saddens me that we truly all can’t just get a long. I’m also over having to twist my hair up every night. I’m not comfortable doing a wash and go, and twist outs give me more definition and volume. My hair isn’t long enough yet for me to feel comfortable putting into a style without extensions and letting it last for a few days. Soon, though. Soon.

    2. I prefer “all natural”/”organic” products, probably because those have the most hype in the natural hair community. If there were a product out there that had received a lot of positive reviews, I’d probably be open to it. I’m big on word of mouth.

    3. I did well last week. I had to wash my hair frequently because Hubby and I are taking swimming lessons. (Yes, I’m 26, and he’s 31, but you have to learn sometime, right?)
I used the JBCO as a pre-poo, sealant, and on my edges last week.

    1. We all love being natural, but is there
anything about being natural that you are “so over”?

    I
am so over people saying that going natural is easy. It is not easy for me at
all. It has been 8 months for me and I still haven’t found my staple products
    and care routine.

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you
open to using anything? Why? I don’t mind using products that aren’t all
natural as long as they don’t contain harsh chemicals.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through
with your goals? Any challenges thus far? No changes in my hair routine. Still
using my Castrol oil daily to moisturize my scalp and my braids.

    • http://www.facebook.com/helen.henton.58 Helen Henton

hang in there.. its not easy.. its actually a process.. of trying prodcuts and seeing what works for you.. good luck!

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
No I love it. Because I don’t wear my hair a loose all the time.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I am open to anything because organic and natural products can be pretty pricey at time.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did fine, just not using the JBCO as often as I thought I would have to use it because it moisturize my hair better than traditional moisturizing products.

  • http://www.facebook.com/kara.whittington.92 Kara Whittington

I’m so over my hair looking different every day for no apparent reason. I can repeat the exact same routine with the same products used in the same order with all other variables being the same (temperature, dew point, humidity, etc.) and my hair will look completely different. At this point, I’m so over trying to control what my hair looks like.

I’m open to using anything if it delivers consistent results (moisture, softness, definition). I have no preference for organic or natural products. But, I prefer products with ingredients that I can pronounce that benefit my hair. My hair just happens to like products that claim to be natural.

Last week, I did pretty well. I continued using my Jamaican Black Castor Oil as originally intended. I am sure that I will continue to use it after the challenge is over. I will purchase a different scent though (maybe lavender).

    • http://www.facebook.com/helen.henton.58 Helen Henton

lol you must be in Houston? if not we are having the same problem here.. with the temp changing every day my hair never knows what to do.. thats why its been in a puff! lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/tracie.h.young Tracie Henson Young

I love being natural but I’m so over not knowing how my hair will turn out from one day to the next. Every time it grows there are a new set of challenges products that worked at one length don’t work as well as the next. I’m currently looking to get it twisted/braided for a little while so I don’t have to deal with it for a while.
I like the idea of organic products but I’m definitely open to anything. I just want my hair to look fabulous so whatever works, I’m good with it.
During week 5, I changed up my rountine becuase my hair was beginning to feel some kind of way that I didn’t like so I decided to use it in my deep conditioner as usual but during the week instead of putting it all through my hair 3x a night during my twist I decided to use on my edges and nape as well as when untwisting my hair focusing primarily my ends. I definitely enjoyed this method better.

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? I am over the whole “hair typing” thing!!! It’s not like they have hair typing charts on products for natural hair.

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I prefer “all natural/organic” products because in my experience it works better on my hair.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did great last week by following my goals of massaging my edges/scalp with the castor oil.

you are so right!! I have too many textures to type my hair! lol

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? My so called friends asking me what am I doing to my hair? My own African American men turning their noses up at me like I’m the Bubonic Plague. Like really??
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I’m open to using anything that my hair response to in a positive manner. Sometimes it’s the cheap stuff that make your hair look and feel like EVERYTHING!!!
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I was able to follow through with my goals for the week. The only challenges is the Castor oil running down my neck and making me breakout on my forehead. LOL!

those men arent worthy! and SO CALLED friends arent friend… truth… I love the fact that you do you in spite of.. simply beautiful!

    • http://twitter.com/CurlyCourtCourt Courtney

Exactly. If they can’t appreciate the beauty that you have, they’re not worthy of your time…at all.

    • Jcb3wg

Kinky kurly kat I feel you but do understand that it’s not that those brotha or those friends aren’t worthy…..they have been subject to the same lies that you and I have! The media the movies the historyAlllll of it you have to give them time just like it took you time to see the beauty in it! Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water some people just need time we have hundreds of years tied to our people in negative ways the way we look the way we talk walk what we eat everything has been in a negative light! So I said all that to say this give it sometime and if we are all honest it took us sometime too. Good luck and if you decide to go back so what your decision peace!

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
Once again, I can’t say this enough! I’m so over SSKs and split ends! Hopefully after I get this trim this week I won’t have as many…

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I prefer natural and organic products. However I’m open to any unnatural chemical that doesn’t cause buildup or harm to the hair (i.e. dimethicone (sp?)). Well except for hair dye since I might do that this week too. Lol I find that organic and natural ingredients just agree with my hair more.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I barely used it last week. Maybe once or twice. But I did use it last night (my wash day) to oil my scalp!

  • FireMama_x3

i posted this yesterday, but it disappeared!
    1. i’m “so over” having to do my hair multiple times a week & all of the many products (although i admit i am a product junkie).
    2. my products don’t have to be natural & organic. i do like the silicone & paraben free products i have used…but not any more than the other products.
    3. week 5 went well. i met my goals of using the castor a lil differently. no new challenges.

    1. We all love being
natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
Well, I not natural but in the transitioning process and what I’m so over is
try to find styles/protective styles for my hair. I’m just ready to wear my
    hair.

    2. Do you prefer “all
natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? For the
longest I was open to using anything but they were still concerned good
products. I just started using all natural/organic products and I loved the way
they have my hair feeling. My hair seem to feel soft and not dry or brittle

    3. How did you do last
week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did pretty well this week with my hair; I focused on my edges because my hair
is up in a protective style (Ponytail). The only challenges I faced were not
being able to oil my scalp.

  • Doline

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
I’m “so over” single strand knots!!! They’re so annoying and always there… even immediately after a good trim. Ugh.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I am open to using most anything but I’ve found my self choosing products without parabens and mineral oils as creams/stylers. But as for conditioners for cowashing/detangling, definitely been using anything that works!
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I sealed my hair and put JBCO on my scalp on wash day. Then on my edges 3 times a week. Challenge so far has been finding time and remembering to check in.

    • http://www.facebook.com/helen.henton.58 Helen Henton

try adding a bit of the castor oil on your ends at night.. just a bit and hopefully it helps with the knots… my daughter use to have those!

I’m open to using anything. I do love the all natural products.Still trying out products to see what gives me the best result
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? 3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? hello ladies well Im happy with my progress so far and my goals is for december to see great growthand thickness as for products I will try anything if I feel it will work natural or not
and Im so over people without patience natural girls who wanna rush the process I say wait and all in its own time see ya next week curlies!!

  • onyinyechi uwakwemdike

    1. I am so over shrinkage and detangling sessions.
2.i prefer all natural products not that i wouldn’t use products that contain synthetic ingredients…i like to think that most of the ingredients i use for my hair can actually be ingested.
    3. I did great…been attacking my edges especially the front of my hair (grows the slowest) with this JBCO. I had a scalp massage with the castor oil once. I must see significant growth when i take out my kinky twists. hopefully i can reach my goal of 3in-growth by the end of the challenge.

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? I’m so over twisting and retwisting…. takes time. people referring to my hair as uncombed!

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
i am open to any. availability of a product that works for me is what matters most.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
i oiled my scalp 2 times. realized 3 times is a bit too much, makes my scalp too oily.

uncombed! what the heck? no maam! girl you better keep rocking your natural!

      • nasimiyumakali

yes! rocking it all the way despite people’s views. they don’t know better!

    • Melissa Houseal

My hair is certainly not combed every day. But it IS “styled” every day. So, yeah, I can agree with them. LOL! I only comb when I detangle once a week.

    1. I, like Arvetta, am soooo over people perpetuating the myth that it is impossible to have healthy relaxed hair. Because it’s just not true. How one chooses to wear their hair is a personal choice and should be left at that. 2. I PREFER all natural/organic products to the extent that is is affordably possible. Recently, I have taken to making my own products and using food items such as honey, and garlic in various treatments. My hair has been eating better than me these days, lol. 3. Did okay with my hair last week. My challenge, is and probably always will be…styling. At least as long as I’m in this “in between” stage that is.

    • http://www.facebook.com/helen.henton.58 Helen Henton

lol that garlic is a stinky mess but my hair LOVES it.. I mix it with my castor oil and black tea… girl my hair softer than a babies bottom! lol.. now only if we can eat better! lol

  • Chelle Belle

I am SO OVER having to do my hair every day! LOL I could pull it back in a ponytail so easitly before or finger comb to run out the house and that is SO NO the case anymore!
I would prefer the natural/organic products but I’m open to anything! I’m still on a search to find the right products for myself, and looking everywhere for the day to day stuff… I’m pretty open for now!
Last week I did okay, but I did a protective style for over the weekend and I wasn’t able to use my products like normal… I’ll be washing it out today, but I was pleased with my 2nd attempt at the Marley high bun. I do have a question, can anyone give me advice on how to cease my itchy scalp? I’ve had itchy scalp as long as I can remember, even during relaxer days. I’ve tried oil, I’ve tried sprays, DC’s and other stuff. It’s much better since I co-wash a couple times a week now, but when I have protective styles I’m digging by day 2. Please help…

    • http://www.facebook.com/helen.henton.58 Helen Henton

ooohhh yes I had that itching for weeks! I cut my castor oil with olive oil and coconut oil and it stoped.. also i cowash everyday.. that itching can be a beast.. drink a lot of water.. they say that its just the impurities being released but its pain in the but! lol

    • Melissa Houseal

Most nights, I love that I must set aside time for myself to re-set my hair. The only time I hate it is when I’ve had a late night and that extra 20-30 minutes before bed when it’s already 1:30 AM is the Devil!! :-(

  • NatashaP

    1. I am so over my hair strands hugging up on themselves and tangling up all the time.
    2. I like to use products with natural ingredients but I don’t use them exclusively. I use what makes the ‘fro happy.
    3. I did we’ll last week – used castor oil in my scalp and to seal every other day.

  • http://twitter.com/afroballerina The AfroBallerina

    1. I’m so over the question “Are you still doing the natural thing?” Or when my hair is done & someone asks me “What are you going to do with your hair?”, implying that it looks a mess.

    2. I prefer organic or natural ingredients. I feel it’s healthier for my hair.

    3. Last week was another good week. Used JBCO 5 or 6 days on massaging my scalp, my edges & sealing my ends. My challenge is getting bored with styling. I’m a little stressed out & that is probably affecting my hair growth. I’m trying not to worry about it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/helen.henton.58 Helen Henton

yes I wish about 7 years ago when I was at my sisters beauty shop when I asked her to cut my hair off so that I could go natural and start over, she said “no you wouldnt look right” I should have told her that I was a paying cutomer and I wanted it cut…but no, I let her make me feel like it wasnt right.. but 2 years later I went in the bathroom and took the clippers out and did it myself… I also wish I had done more research on natrual hair when I first big chopped…oh well… trial and error
I love all natural and organic products just because of the process being natural.Oh but on the other hand this crazy 4 textured head of mine likes when the chemist play around and mix a little silicone in the product… lol I just try to cut down on how many products I use at once… but alcohol is a no no for me
oohhhweee, I was sick last week and didnt feel like washing my hair at all! lawd! so needless to say I look like a greasy mess by Sat! I still did the nightly scalp masages and castor oil but I didnt cowash.. nasty huh? oh well…im on a mission and a cold wont stop me!

  • Melissa Houseal

I think I’m over how long it takes me to wash and style my hair. I have a good routine down, and I know that the things I do have helped me to grow the hair I have now, but sometimes I wish for the 1.5 hour wash/dry/style sessions of my past. I’m also over when relaxed women ask me about my hair, then say they thought about going natural, but (insert comment here). Yes, it takes time. Yes, it will draw up. Yes, it has a mind of its own and it can be different EVERY day, even if I think I’ve done the exact same thing with it as I did the night before. Yes, it’s worth it. I just show them pictures of myself from two years ago and let them see for themselves.
I prefer products that have ingredients I recognize, now. I am partial to natural products for my hair, face and skin now. I’ve been using oils and butters on my skin since my big chop and I’ve definitely seen the results. As for my hair, I want to use what works, and luckily, products with natural ingredients have worked for me.
I’m doing okay with the Castor Oil. I have mainly been using it on my edges last week and in my prepoo. I have my hair in a blowout right now, so I’m not using it on my length because of the weight of it, just a little on my scalp at night to massage in.

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
Achieving a perfect hairstyle, whether it’s a wash n go, braid out, twist out, Bantu knot out, etc. when I went natural I had no clue about different ways to transition, products to use, etc. I didn’t discover YouTube and all these blogs for information until a year after my BC. I really prefer to where mini- twists and take it down every two weeks to re-do. I’m tired of getting caught up in the hype of being natural. I enjoy my natural and what it can do, but I’m tired of all the extra stuff w/ being natural. Just overwhelming.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I prefer all natural/organic products, but as you get behind the science of different ingredients, you realize that certain ingredients aren’t bad because they have a scientific name; they are deemed safe by the cosmetic board as safe for use in various products. Some natural products are considered parabens, detergents, etc. but have a natural name. Google scientific and natural names and you will get a wealth of knowledge about the ingredients you use. JC of The Natural Haven Bloom is a fantastic source for the cosmetic science behind hair. So at the end of the day I will try most products, even if it is not completely natural/organic, but I won’t use too much because I don’t like buildup.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? No challenges, I continue to massage my scalp and edges with JBCO, and smoothing the left over onto the length of my hair.

  • Tishana Trainor

    Hello, everyone!

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? I am so over the youtube wars. People WILL be compensated for their opinion, and its up to us to decide what we want to try. If you feel your YT Guru is no longer being honest because of compensation, dont watch, move on… Or, here’s a novel idea, DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH. The negative comments have got to stop. I’m also over the 40 minute sessions for wash and go’s. They just arent for me, and my hair has suffered some breakage from the attempts. I’m gonna stick to what I know.

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I prefer organic and all natural products because I have some serious sensitivities and allergies, but I can get down with anything as long as it doesnt contain sorbates or animal products. That still includes a lot of good products.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I didnt do all that great because I put in some crochet kinky twists, and I didnt want to add buildup on my scalp. I was sure to do a deep condish before I put the twists in. So I’m reducing my 3x weekly to once weekly until October 31. Unless someone can come up with a better way to make sure I dont get buildup…

    1. I’m so over shrinkage, nuff said :)
    2. I like to use all natural products, but I’m not an ingredient snob. I do try to stay away from sulfates in my shampoo and as a rule I try to keep an eye out for cones, but other than that I’m not too picky.
    3. Last week was fine. Routine was the same, no challenges at all.

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? I’m over the entitlement that some Naturalistas put into the world. Being Natural is NOT a monopoly!

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I’m open. Yes I would prefer all natural and organic but sometimes my hair just isn’t feeling all natural products.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did pretty good last week. My hair seems to be getting thicker. Not quite sure if I see any increase in length. My overall texture feels a lot softer too!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003884504755 Shunda Stanley

The only thing that I’m way over is when you go to YT ,see naturals w/ hair that is APL
and they have only been natural less than a year. You have been natural the same amount of time and your hair doesn’t touch your ear LOL. I think they should let newbies know if they BC or transitioned and how long. This makes a huge difference! I remember being somewhat discouraged at the beginning when I would see this. In the beginning I used any products due to a lack of understanding, trying to find the right products rather natural or not. Now I prefer “all natural”/”organic” products.
During week 5 I wore my hair in protective style and put oil on my scalp 1x a week and edges 2x a week. I had to dilute my castor oil with coconut, olive oil and sweet almond to make it last and ease the itching.

  • http://twitter.com/CurlyCourtCourt Courtney

    1. This is gonna be a loooooooong rant (my apologies, lol). I’m definitely over this whole “natural vs. relaxed” thing. It’s the person’s hair…therefore, it’s their choice what they want to do with it. Single strand knots irk my poor soul; I have no idea how they occur when I take care of this mane. The biggest soul irker is what people define as “natural”. It’s like this: if you want to dye your hair, do you. Screw what everyone else is saying. Another thing that bothers me is that because I’m light-skin, I can’t be natural because “my hair texture is already looser than my other comrades.” Like seriously? Who died and made you the “hair expert”? I think that you need to find a…I think I’ll finish my rant here or else I would be typing into week 12…lol. People just need to get over themselves…like now.

    2. Honestly, you’re gonna have to ask my hair and scalp that. Lol they’re happy as long as they’re clean, moisturized, and healthy. It really doesn’t matter what products I use, but I have been leaning more toward all natural/organic products lately.

    3. Welp…last week definitely inspired me to go even harder after I saw how my hair grew (and it grew…lol). I added another oil to the mix (argan oil), and I apply that daily. I use the castor oil every other day now and my peppermint oil is mixed in with the castor oil. Other than the evil single strand knots, no challenges. I’ve noticed that I shed less, so that’s a major plus!!

  • Angel

    1. I’m so over these natural ladies that feel like you have to do certain things to be natural…like not dye your hair or use certain products, etc. I say do you boo…..whatever that is…be true to you. I do whatever I want to my hair because its MY hair :)
    2. I prefer all natural products but I choose whatever my hair responds to.
    3. I didn’t oil my scalp and edges as much as I wanted to but I’m determined to do better this week.

I used to prefer all natural products when i started my journey but now kinda don’t mind two or three ingredients that are not natural…whatever works for me I’ll say mostly when it comes to my deep conditioner, shampoo and conditioner and leave-in conditioner lol are all natural.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

I’ve been doing really good after the 1st two weeks because my scalp was so itchy but as i used it more it does the opposite i looooove it i don’t know why i didn’t know about it earlier.

    Check In
Questions/ Answers:1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about
being natural that you are “so over”? One thing I must say I’m “so
over” about being natural is seeing the natural community evolve into a
“Fad” trend and celebrities showcasing their hair. And stating
clearly when twit’pic’ on Twitter “HERE IS MY NATURAL HAIR” and no
hype really over relaxed hair. Which too is just as beautiful. Also the
hair typing system as well, #4a #3c etc. I find to be all so annoying!
    *sighs*

    2. Do you prefer
“all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? If you
were to ask me this question at the beginning of my natural hair journey. I
would have said YES ALL NATURAL/ORGANIC PRODUCTS ONLY PLEASE! But now I have
come to learn as long as my hair likes the product I’m okay with the product
not being 100% natural. However, when it comes to shampoos I do find that
having a Sulfate Free shampoo is VERY necessary. Well at least for me, because
I do not want any drying ingredients on my kinky curly hair. :)

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow
through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I feel I did pretty well last
week in (week). Yes, I still followed through with my goals. As far as
challenges, yes I have encountered. Which was when I felt I had not been seeing
any type of growth results with this really tested my patience. However, after
taking the growth update pictures I have really realized and seen a
significant amount of improvement. With patience I know is key. So, I will not
let anything take a toll on me again. Speaking of patience there is this new
product I’ve been ordering ALOT lately. And it is called “Patience”
if you want to order some just click the link below to see the video. It’s
Chescalocs: It’s the secret to long hair! Tehehehehe. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-ciMuVhDXA&feature=player_embedded

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? I am so over the time it takes to maintain natural hair. I thought going natural would be easier and less time consuming than my relaxed hair. But, contrary to my beliefs it is more time consuming than relaxed hair. So, as far as my time I’m over that aspect of natural hair.

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I prefer natural/organic products over anything else. I have become a product junky and have discovered that it is a chemistry project trying to find the products that my hair prefers and works well in my hair. I look for moisture retention, manageability, and how it keeps my hair soft. I have found other products seem to be more drying.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

Since the challenge I have found myself incorporating castor oil is a regular part of my weekly hair maintenance, and will continue to be after this challenge. I met all of my goals as far as using castor oil. I have not encountered any challenges thus far from using castor oil.

    • Shakir

Yeah I’m still trying to get my routine down pack to where it doesn’t take as long everynight setting my hair.. I notice that the last two weeks when I wore a potective style it was much easier but I missed having my hair out.

      • Sheri Morris

I have to try more protective hair styles myself especially since the weather has changed from sunny back to our rainy days. I guess anyway you look at it our hair takes tender loving care and once we get in tuned with it will get easier and easier.

  • Jean

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? Not really, some of the ladies still prefer to relax there hair. there’s nothing wrong with that. Its nice to see more women of color em.bracing there natural hair
.2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I’m open to new products. but I prefer them to be natural/organic. I’m very watchful of products that will dry out my hair. I read the ingredients on the label.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I’m loving this castor oil challenge. my hair is very thick and soft

  • Richelle Thomas

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
Umm…not really. I’m happy to be natural. No complaints!
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
Yes, I do prefer all natural products. I strive to lead a life that incorporates products/foods that are as close to nature as possible. That goes for things that go both on and in my body.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I had a challenge with moisture because I was traveling. Other than that I am happy with the length retention I am seeing

  • Rashidah

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? I love being natural!!!! I am enjoying learning about myself, my hair healthy and overall healthy lifestyle. This journey is teaching me so much and I’m enjoying every minute.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?Right now I’m open to using anything. I have incorporated some organic products into my lifestyle but I pretty much use whatever I’m used to using. Products such as milk I’ve changed to drinking almond milk and eating more organic fruits but I because I’m balling on a budget and organic products can be pricey, I pick and choose what I organic products I buy but I’m flexible.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? Last week, I followed through with all my goals. I applied the castor oil 3x as usually and I actually got a chance to wear it out for a change because it’s usually twisted and pinned. I need switch it up for my ends. I started spraying aloe vera to the ends and then sealing with the castor oil. I definitely see a change in my ends now and I’m loving it.

  • http://twitter.com/RhapsoDani Danielle Young

    1. I am SOOOO over the shrinkage. My hair is so much longer than it appears and it seems that I can never get the look of the length I want.

    2. I’m open to anything because you never know what your hair responds to unless you try to use it.

    3. Last week, I did really well. I managed to twist my hair every evening with the castor oil. The challenge is having the time to twist my hair nightly and being consistent with using the oil. There are so many products that at times I want to try them all, so it ls hard for me to focus on using just one at a time so i can monitor the changes.

I posted my comment on Saturday, I was the 2nd one to comment…I don’t see it here

  • Alyssa Bigbee

    1. I am def over my hair not touching my shoulders, I’m so used to it that sometimes I habitually reach back. But I understand that I have to have patience I just started in July so I’m hanging in there
    2. I’m willing to try anything! You never know what strange thing will help your hair
    3. Last week I did a protective style all week so I rubbed some castor oil in my hair each day as I freshened up the style.

  • Chiley Holder

    1. I’m so over the hater of natural hair, I’ve had people suggest I wear wigs, braids, etc. to cover my unruly hair. Sorry but it’s not happening! 2. I prefer the natural/organic products because if I can’t understand it, I think it’s poison, lol, but sometimes you have to Google the meaning of words. I’ve discovered somethings are natural just written scientifically. 3. Last week was smooth but I am working through a product disaster as I type, going to have do a quick wash and style tonight.

  • Shakir

    1. Things I am over about being natural. I guess my number one is people asking if they can touch my hair like I’m a pet. 2. I am open to trying anything on my hair once to see how my hair likes it other than that I don’t have a preference between nauteal and/or organic products. 3. This week I just focused on my edges as I had my hair up in a protective style all week.

  • Yeveshia

First I wanted to say that I forgot to check in last week for the length check last week but my hair hasn’t grown ={ but I am not giving up with this challenge!!!

    1) I am so over explaining to a friend of mine that it takes time to find the right product for your hair (she is also natural) she claims she found her product of choice but everytime I mention a new one she wants to try it also lol

    2) I am open to trying different products as long as they don’t have harsh ingredients and its good for my hair I am down

    3) the only challenge I am experiencing is my hair not growing. When I use the castor oil I use it on my scalp and also start @ the roots and go to the tips. I think I need to massage my scalp more and do more hot oil treatments

  • Gwenda King

Hey! Sorry for such a late submission!
    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
I am over wash day, lol. I know I need to cleanse and treat my hair and I make sure I do atleast once a week. It just gets tiring whenever I think of how long it takes to pre-poo, wash, deep condition, and then LOC and style my hair. Jeez!
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I prefer all natural products. For the longest time I tried to make a routine work using products that weren’t natural. My hair wasn’t thriving like I wanted it to. When I started just using organic products it was an “aha” moment for my hair. My hair is healthy and growing at such a steady rate now. I couldn’t say that when I was using un-natural products.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I will say that in week five I only got around to using castor oil once and that was on wash day. I know that is really pitiful, so I plan on picking back up this week!

    • Gwenda King

The week 1 group of photos has a picture of me and my son, I had no way to post it in a caption or on the pic.

    • Gwenda King

I just realized that I posted my photos on the wrong check in! It won’t let me put them on week five’s check in comments, because I already have them on this one. Is that okay?

    • Shakir

I feel you on wash day…It seems likeI spend one of my days off just on washing my hair and giving it the treatment that it needs. Sometimes I miss going to the salon and having them treat my hair.

      • Gwenda King

Girl, yes! If we had a natural salon in my BFE town, I would be hitting them up weekly, lol.

  • MsFabulous13

No, I can’t say I’m so over anything about being natural yet! I love it! Although my natural journey was forced, my hair started falling out, I’ve finally embraced my texture. I’m still pleasantly surprised by the compliments and those who stop me to ask what I use in my hair! I love it!
As far as products are concerned, I generally stick to sulfate free products. Beyond that, I try to use products for natural hair. I’m not a product junkie and by no means a label reader. It’s way too much! I remember when I was a child, we washed with Prell or Head and Shoulders and got our hair pressed at the kitchen stove! We didn’t do so much with products and worry so much about clipping ends and too much heat. We have to get back to the basics, in my opinion!
Week 5 was great! I did my normal castor oil hot oil treatment and followed up with castor oil on my scalp. I also gave myself a Carol’s Daughter Olive Oil Infusion treatment as my hair was feeling a little rough. My hair is growing and thickening…did I say I love it??!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/chaneal.monique Chaneal Monique

I love being natural and I have gotten very positive reactions about my hair. What I’m so over is people using the Natural Hair lifestyle choice as another way to tear others down and compete. For me the whole decision I made to go natural is about love myself the way God made me and not to please anyone else. I never force my decision on anyone else and oddly I’ve had at least 10 people go natural because the like my hair.

Products don’t have to be all natural for me to use them and love them, they just can’t be harmful to my hair. Strangle my hair like some of the things that are considered taboo such as silicones.

I’m still doing great with the challenge. The length check has given me motivation to continue. I’m excited to see what my end results will be.

  • Nlsparks

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
DETANGLING! My hair is so curly sometimes that it definitely tough to detangle my hair. Trying to stay strong oh and DRYNESS, lol!
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I’m open to different products but Im definitely into SHEA RADIANCE AND SHEA MOISTURE Products.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I mixed my castor oil with a little bit of peppermint oil and that helped take the itch away. Im still following through with my goals. I was out of town and thats why Im just checking in

    • Shakir

I understand where you are coming from with the detangling…. I’m trying to get better on that part of my regimen.

I enjoy being natural it brings some extra confidence for me. I really enjoy using 100% natural products however I’m not against using products which are not 100% natural because my hair’s happiness dictates what products I used. I did very well in last week’s challenge and again I was able to meet my goals without any challenges. Hope everyone else had a good week last week too. :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/kimberly.palmer2 Kimberly Palmer

    1. I am currently transitioning, so the only thing I am “so over” is family members asking me why I am doing this. Initially, I was bothered by being asked this but over time I realized that my decision makes me happy and that is all that matters at this point.
    2. I am moving towards using more organic products. I have a variety of products. I prefer natural or organic products, but I am open to a product if it works.
    3. I continued to use the castor oil 3x per week, mostly on the edges. I did not encounter any challenges this past week.

I do really enjoy being natural but I am so over the shrinkage, JUST PLAIN OVER IT HEHEHE.
I use a mixture of products, I do enjoy all natural products, but I find that my natural products are my clays and Ayurveda products, i still co-wash at least 2x a week.
Last week went off without a hitch and i followed through with my goals not a problem at all.

  • Gwenda King

I accidentally put my post under guest instead of under my username so I decided to repost it. I got all types of confused!

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
    I
am over wash day, lol. I know I need to cleanse and treat my hair and I
make sure I do atleast once a week. It just gets tiring whenever I
think of how long it takes to pre-poo, wash, deep condition, and then
LOC and style my hair. Jeez! It ends up taking up what should be a chill day off!

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
    I
prefer all natural products. For the longest time I tried to make a
routine work using products that weren’t natural. My hair wasn’t

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
    I
will say that in week five I only got around to using castor oil once
and that was on wash day. I know that is really pitiful, so I plan on
picking back up this week! I was just being lazy!

    1. I am so over having to prep my hair at night. I am use to just going to bed and not doing anything to my hair. My husband wants it to be out so that he can run his fingers through it during the night but if I do that too often, it will be hell for me…lol
    2. I am up for using any products. I am not convinced with this “organic” or “all natural” senerio that everyone is talking about. What’s makes a product “organic” or “natural” anyway? The government standards???
    3. I have been following through with my goals. I just need style ideas for my medium length hair. I am a hair style handicap. I can’t do anything unless its with extensions or weave. I am trying to get out of going back to that route. Help!!!!!!!

  • amtate

I’m so late checking in but here goes! I love being natural but I can’t say there is anything that I am so over. I don’t like wash days but i wouldn’t say that i’m over it. I will use any product that my hair likes no matter what’s in it. Last week i stayed with my goals but lost a little steam at the end of the week. I planned to wear my hair out for the first time since July and i didn’t want it to be oily so I only used castor oil on my edges instead of on my scalp and roots. I will be putting my hair back in/up and using the oil on my scalp, edges and roots. Have a good week ladies!

  • Charmin Smart

I love being natural. I’d like to think it’s not just a phase I’m going through. My hair is in box braids which means I don’t wash it as often normal. I actually miss my wash days. I miss running my hand through my hair. I love trying new products, I love staring at other natualista’s in the street, I love boring my family about my journey, I love youtube, I love hair blogs, I love my hair. So no, I’m not over anything!

At this stage in my journey, I prefer to use all natural/organic products. I like to know what’s going in my hair and what it likes. I think because I had so many years of perming, relaxing and burning my hair/scalp I want to look after it. After all you are what you eat/put in your hair :0)

Last week was an okay week. I’ve made a new concoction to use as braid spray. Juices and Berries, Giovanni leave in conditioner and JCBO. I really hope it works and I’m penetrating my hair through the braids. I’m still using the JCBO on my edges. I’m at home in the week at the moment, so I use my new braid spray in the morning and wear my satin wrap all day.

    1.
We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you
are “so over”? At the moment, I just love every aspect of my natural journey,
    even the shrinkage. J

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you
open to using anything? Why? I love all kinds of products; so far I haven’t had
any issues w/ products that aren’t all natural. Although the majority of my
products are natural, I love making my shea butter mixture that I make monthly.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through
with your goals? Any challenges thus far? Last week I put some JBCO in my
conditioner and co-washed w/ that, after I did the Cherry Lola Treatment. The
results were great! I also massaged my scalp with the JBCO every other night.

  • Rozelle

I have to get in the Amen corner with Arvetta Moore about the natural vs relaxed war–I am so over it too–

I use whatever works on my hair whether all natural or not.

Last week I did a pre-poo, never did that before–not sure about if I like it better than a hot oil treatment–but I do like sealing my hair with oil–my hair seems to keep more moisture this way.

Trying to actually start a hair routine so I will have better results with my hair–I have gotten lazy about taking care of it, so I got to get a routine that I will stick with.

Still treating my edges every night and I know I need a trim, ok probably I need a cut–lots of split ends, so I got to get it done to really start my hair back on the growing track

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? I’m over my styles not turning out. It’s usually because I don’t twist early enough to give my hair time to dry for the morning but that is very frustrating.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I prefer organic products but I am open to try almost anything. The organic ones generally moisturize my hair better. I have used a lot of products that make my hair sticky or dry so I try to stay away from them.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I still have been using JBCO 3-5 times per week but I got lazy with styling my hair. It’s something I have to keep up on.

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?

I am so over people trying to ‘pet’ my hair, as if I were an animal. This is my hair, not a hat from the store. Why do you feel the need to walk up to me and feel my hair? I am not AT&T,so please do not reach out to touch me! If you are curious about natural hair, tell me. I might consider fulfilling your curiosity, but let that be my choice. Thanks :D .

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?

I prefer all natural/organic products for my hair because of my sensitive skin and thin strands. In the event of an allergic reaction, the less complicated the ingredients, the easier it is for me to narrow down what was the cause. Also, my strands are so thin, I don’t like the extra weight and product build-up.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

Last week, I was only able to massage my scalp twice (instead of the goal of three), but I was able to oil my edges as usual. Just before I wrote this, I gave myself a well needed trim, ACV’ed my scalp, gave myself the first scalp massage for the week, and braided it up. The only challenges I have encountered recently is massaging with cornrows. The temperature is dropping outside, so I need to start protecting my ends a little better. I still spray my scalp with my oil mix, but my massages are limited. Only on wash day or days that I take my flat twists/cornrows down, do I get a chance to make the massages full out.

    1. I’m way over thinking that every new product I hear about or see is the one for my hair when what I am using works just fine.
2.I prefer natural products or as natural as I can get meaning no sulfate, silicone or parabens. The reason being is that I have discovered that my hair does need all the chemical additives. Since I have been natural and following the curly girl and LOC method my hair looks and feels wonderful.
    3. Last week I met my goals and no set back have happened in using the castor oil.

  • http://www.facebook.com/erica.floyd.58 Erica Floyd

    1) I would have to say the amount of time it takes to wash, detangle, condition deep condtion, and style my hair at times. I’m all about doing whatever it takes to keep my hair healthy and growing but I would like to cut it down a bit at times.
    2) I don’t shop for solely “organic” products. I buy products that are tried and true for my hair because I don’t want to be a product junkie.
    3) Last week was good. I got my hair recolored so the night before I co-washed and deep conditioned. I ended up having to deep condition my hair again the night I got the color because the hair product that was used made my hair feel crunchy. After that I’ve been super diligent with moisturizing my hair properly.

  • Marissa D.

    1. I am over trying to find the correct combination of products to accommodate my hair type. 2. I am open to anything. I attempted organic, but found that is made my hair feel hard or dry. I probably did not use the correct ones but whatever. 3. Still not seeing much in the change….but I was travelling this past week, and was not able to stay on top of my 3x a week ritual.

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
I am so over the time consuming twisting. I try to simplify my styles now or do protective styling that will last a couple of weeks which will also be good for growth.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I prefer products that work. My hair is not too picky. If if works, then it works. It can have cones or whatever in it. I don’t read labels. Either it will work or not and then I move forward.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
Last week, I put oil on my scalp EVERYDAY. Yes, every single day I oiled my scalp. I’m so proud of myself. No challenges so far.

  • Curls and Mo

    1. I
am SO over doing my hair. Lol. I know that I can easily find a stylist or
someone to braid/twist it but as time consuming and stressful as it is, I am
very picky about who I will allow to touch my hair.

    2. I’m
open to using anything but the more research I do and the further along into my
journey the more I lean towards organic and natural hair AND body products.

    3. So
far so good. No challenges. I’ve been keeping up with my regimen quite easily. I
credit it to the LOC Method I was doing before I started.

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
SSKs and styling, especially because I suck at styling lol
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I am pretty open but I do stay away from silicones since my hair is low porosity already.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
Pretty Good. Mission long, healthy hair is underway!

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? The obsessive compulsion of products! I am now finding that I’m using less products so I don’t need too much. 2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? I love using “all Natural” because I do not want to use any harsh products on my hair at all. I love the feeling of my hair and how soft it is. I think it has to do with the natural products I use. 3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did pretty good last week. I used a spray with castor oil to moisturize my hair.

    1. I do love being natural, but, I am so over not achieving all these beautiful hair styles other naturalistas can achieve, soooo annoying…lol!
    2. I do prefe organic/natural products because thats what I have had the most success with maintaining hair health, but I am open to anything that works for a specific turn out.
    3. I did well last week. I followed through with my goals so that was a mjor plus, especially dealing with a 4 yr old and a 4 month old. The only challenege is bringing myself to do my lengthy regimen on wash day, but its worth it. My other challenge is this bantu knot/twist out that did not work for my, I guess every hair style is not for us all, oh well at least my hair is healthy :)

  • SteviiLaLa

I am so over – feeling like my hair has to be fried straight to look professional and be accepted or appropriate for the business world. I am naturally beautiful with natural hair.

I do prefer natural products. But, I am known to occasionally use a little Fantasia IC Liquid Mousse which is not 100% natural. (It holds the baby hair and sideburns really well.) I feel that natural hair products are healthier for my hair and safer scalp. I am a strong believer of you-are-what you eat and that goes for what you feed your hair and scalp, as well. I do understand some products have to have artificial ingredients and harsh chemicals to give better results. More power to them. They cause my hair to be extremely dry, slow growth and sometimes break.
Week 5 was a good week, I am loving my hair more and more each week. I am experimenting with different natural styles and hair associates. This week I did not follow one of my goals, I purposely left out the Cheyenne ingredients in my overnight pre-shampoo treatment. The next day, while doing my s&c I did not get that tingling feeling on my scalp, as I had in the past. No hair challenges this week, just spreading the word about the KCCC challenge and JBCO.

  • Kandy O.

    1. Yes, I’m so over single strand knots! They drive me crazy!

    2. No, I’m not strictly “all natural”/”organic”. However, I do TRY to make sure at least the first 5 ingredients are as close to natural as possible. I definitely try to avoid products that have petroleum or mineral oil.

    3. I did keep up with my program last week. Seeing great results has really been motivating me to stay on track!

  • NatrlCapricornBeauty/LaQuilla

Im so over the people who do not accept my hair in its natural state. Yes, I normally use all natural products but have also used some that wasn’t from tume to time. Length check week was great!! AI am noticing results and that is even greater!!!

  • Cassandra Burrows

. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? I cant say that Im over anything just yet because the majority of my natural journey I have had a protective style. I am over buying all the products though.

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
If Im claiming to be “natural” I’m going to do my best to use all natural products.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I continue to use JBCO on my edges mainly and massage throughout my entire scalp in between my braids until I take them out. Same since the beginning.

  • http://www.facebook.com/mwareskinner Michelle Ware Skinner

    1. I can’t think of anything that I am “so over.” I’ve been natural since 2008 and I still love playing in my hair and experimenting with new products and hair accessories.
    2. I am open to using anything that works for my hair. I tend to lean toward all natural organic products because the fewer ingredients the less chance of a negative reaction. But there are some conditioners that I use that are not all natural that make my hair soft and really moisturize it. I will continue to use them.
    3. I am staying focused on the challenge. I continue to use castor oil to seal my hair and it does make my hair soft. I used pharmacy castor oil this past week for the first time and I liked the consistency of it better than JBCO. It wasn’t as think and it was easier to apply to my hair. I have not encountered any challenges. My hair is getting so thick. It is still fairly short now. I wonder how I will manage when it grows out.

  • Mikeal C

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?– i’m so over my many bad hair days. Bc natural hair doesn’t have all the quick fixes that relaxed hair has like flatirons and curls etc… Basically i just wish i could do my in a smaller time period !
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?– im open to ANYTHING, bc i’m not too picky and tbh im broke yal ! i cant be tryna buy wine with my beer budget!
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?– on week 5 i wore my hair in bantu knots annd flat twisted under a wig. I followed thru and i am having no challenges !

  • Tiffany Hines

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?

I am over women say “big ups to you or more power to you, I could NEVER go natural, BUT it looks good on you!” I’m like was that a compliment, lol?!?!

If you like the “creamy crack” that cool, but being natural you can wear your hair in more, versatile ways. Plus, the COMPLIMENTS are great.

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I always look at the ingredients. When I was transitioning I was more open to products, but now two years in I use all natural/organic products EXCEPT for a moisturizer called Sapote Hair Lotion by Pura Body Naturals. I like to know how to pronounce the things I put in my body and on my hair. Natural/organic products work better and a worth the few extra dollars spent.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

Last week was GREAT! I got back on track with my daily JBCO usage, my nightly GHE method, and experimented with more protective styles.

I will post pics soon. :-)

    • http://www.facebook.com/aviann.ferdinandcaterson Aviann Ferdinand-Caterson

i get compliments as wll rofl…. my products are mostly all organic except for my shampoo and conditioner…. i am thinking abt getting the JBCO fast, not sure that I am getting the desired results frm the regular one..

      • Tiffany Hines

I haven’t tried the regular CO, but I believe that it’s all about consistency. However, I do think the JBCO is a little more potent, so you use less, and it costs more.

    • Samantha Sheppard

I’m starting to think that the statement is not a compliment..my brother’s girlfriend said that to me…I mean all hair types look beautiful natural..it’s such a weird statement to say someone looks good but that they wouldn’t with the same thing going on!

      • Tiffany Hines

Yeah it’s not really a compliment! People try to be funny on a sly, well that’s how I feel anyway.

      • dollfaceinc22

I’ve been at that point with my mother..she tries to cute and say it looks nice but then tacks on a….for you and a smile…0_0

1.We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?

I am so over the thought that being natural is so hard to do. After all, we were born natural and think about how we managed all those years to make it happen! You just have to learn how to make it do what it do!

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?

I have a goal of moving toward using all natural/organic products eventually. I am selective about what I use because of my hair type and because of the texture and style that I want to achieve. Anything doesn’t work for me.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

Last week I continued to apply the oil 3-5 times during the week, but did not do a hot oil treatment like I had planned. There were no challenges other than answering questions and telling others where to find Jamaican Black Castor Oil!! ;0

  • http://www.facebook.com/kathleen.grayson.9 Kathleen Grayson

    1. I’m so over people looking at me strange, and the rude comments and questions made. the saying is true you don’t understand it you fear it.
    2. i would say everything that i use I try to keep it natural but most of the products I use or not but I am very careful what I put in my hair not a product junkie and my hair does have a mind of her own she can be fickle if i decide to experiment with a new product….LOL
    3. I have no challenges My hair is up in a two strand pin up first time doing it and I love it also I did a High Bun last week….. Thanks Jenell for the tutorials

  • Mrz. Garnett!!!

    1. I am so over the major shrinkage I have when my hair is wet and the stretch process i use to get my length back. My stretch process consists of braiding my hair over a 2 to 3 day span then I usually put my hair in small box braids.

    2. I prefer organic/natural products because they seem more gentle on my hair. And also I am able to mix products to make various moisturizers and mists for my hair. I can also experiment with different essential oils to achieve different fragrances. However, I will buy other products if I believe my hair will like it.

    3. I did GREAT last week. I am so proud of my consistency with scalping my hair and edges 4 times a week.

  • MsPerfect513

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?

Like some of the curlies below I am so over the negative comments about how I choose to wear my hair. My motto is “Do You”. I am in favor of anything that genuinely defines who you are. Wearing my hair in its natural state is what I prefer and it makes me feel good. If thats not for you, keep it moving!
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?

I actually prefer all natural/organic products because my hair seems to “act” better when I use them.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did not use the castor oil as much as I wanted last week. I only used it three times to massage my scalp instead of daily as I had planned. I am still using castor oil to seal my ends daily so at least I am keeping up with that goal. I have noticed an increase in shedding since I started to challenge but my hair is still growing and retaining length.

  • http://naturallystellar.wordpress.com/ NaturallyStellar

    1. I am so over having to use the term “Natural”. “I’m Natural”, I
wear my hair “Natural”. The word Natural doesn’t bother me, it’s just
that when I think about other groups of people, it’s so rare to hear
them have to explain the hair that grows out of their scalps. When we
were kids, we never had to be identified as being natural. Our hair was
just hair. Not natural hair, not textured hair, not kinky hair, just our
hair. I can’t wait for the day to arrive when being natural becomes
the norm so we no longer have to explain.

    2. I prefer all natural/organic but I am
open to using some things with very minimal additives as long as I
don’t feel it would cause any harm to my health or damage to my hair.
Because I’ve been in this journey long enough to know the everything out
    there isn’t bad.

    3. I think I did pretty good. I’m staying on course. No problems with the challenge
but this cold weather is causing a few problems for me. Time for me to
get serious about deep conditioning & protective stying each week.

  • jamila williams

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
I’ve been natural all of my life.. I am “So Over” the question, ” Oh, so your going natural now?” No… You can’t GO natural.. You return to natural if you ever left. But No, I’ve always been natural. Thank you.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
For the most part I use products that i make. Ive had years of serious PGisms and my shelves look CRAZY. It’s simple to keep the routine and the products simple also cuts down on wasting money.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did follow through on my goals. I am still finding I can use the Castor Oil every other day and have found when my ends are looking kinda dry and thirsty twisting with my castor oil shea mix and using castor oil on my ends makes my hair VERY, VERY, VERY happy :) I think I’m finding my groove :)

    • http://naturallystellar.wordpress.com/ NaturallyStellar

Amen Sistah! “You can’t Go natural”. but you can Go crazy listening to some people’s comments on a daily basis. The reality is we’re all natural. The new growth that grows out of every human’s scalp is NOT relaxed or texturized LOL!

      • jamila williams

:) My sister says it ALL the time!!!

  • yardie_chick

    1. I am so over thinking if folks will accept my hair/style at work. I am so over folks saying natural is not for everyone…so do you mean fake is?!?! Getting your scalp burned every 6-8 weeks is??!?!?!SMH!
    2. I tend to prefer all natural, it gives me a sense of comfort knowing that I am not adding anything to ruin my hair or health. I do sometimes use non-natural products but the closer to natural the better for me.
    3. I did pretty good last week. I put my hair in a marley bun and rocked it for the week. I used castor oil in my oil mix on my edges and slicked down areas. I also used it in my pre-poo, DC and to seal after washing.

  • Samantha

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
Sometimes I’m over all the people wanting to touch my hair, it gets old really fast.

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
Generally I prefer all natural products, but if the product works well I’m willing to use most things with certain products lower on their product list.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did alright I massaged my scalp, and used it in my leave in, but I haven’t been using it on my edges like I wanted to.

  • Didi

I’m so over having to do my hair everyday! i’m open to anything, I am a product junkie so anything goes! Except for sulfat included shampoos now. Last week not so great, just added castor oil 3x last week instead of everyday that I wanted to do.

  • Jennifer

    1. I’m kind of over wash and go’s. My hair isn’t long enough to do all of the cute styles I see online and it doesn’t hang right sometimes so I am frustrated with that. I have been tempted to straighten my hair several times but I def don’t want heat damage so I haven’t.
    2. I use what my hair likes. I use Shea Moisture which is organic but I cowash/ condition sometimes with tresemme soft and silkyconditioner.
    3. I didn’t do so well last week. I think I only had time to use my JBCO twice. I am did better this week and my hair has def grown. I hope to post pics soon!

  • http://www.facebook.com/cdbmj Courtney D James

    1. I am so over men thinking bringing up my natural hair and “the beauty of it” will make me swoon for them just because they “say” they agree! You say it because you see it…but are you really thinking it? I SWEAR, it’s like the new pick up line of the century…
    -__-

    2. I like what my hair likes. Especially if it means using a sulfate shampoo *once* in a while. I do use mostly natural products but some natural products out there do carry preservatives to help with shelf life. This in return makes the product non-organic or not COMPLETELY “all-natural”. But that doesn’t mean it’s not good for you. It’s like food. Yeah, we may eat mostly genetically and conditionally grown fruits and veggies, but as long as we’re eating it more than the red meat and “commercially labeled” foods, we will STILL get healthy! ^_^. I don’t over analyze such things! I just listen to my hair!

    3. Week 5 was just like any other week except I had to manipulate my hair more. It’s not my fault tho! LOL My hair was in two-strand twists after being washed but when I realized I needed to take my updated challenge pics, I began to stretch it daily. And you know what that means: More combing, more brushing, the use of more bobby/straight pins, and more product. Other than that, I did the usual: Applied the castor oil to my roots, scalp, nape, edges, and strands. This week (wk6), however, is kicking my butt. Now I know how women in school and ones with children feel because these double shifts have me ignoring my hair in the WORST way. =/ …Hopefully week 7 will experience a turn around!! And with my week 5 photos showing no growth, Ill NEED the luck!

Good luck to the rest of you on your challenge!

    • http://naturallystellar.wordpress.com/ NaturallyStellar

LOL on the pickup line. Its hard to tell who really means it. Some guys will say whatever they can to get a woman’s attention.

      • http://www.facebook.com/cdbmj Courtney D James

LOL!! And it just makes it that much harder! I swear the first time around, it sounded pretty genuine…but then I knew something was up pretty quickly!

  • Zekia Brunson

    1. I think all of the “so over” statements from the ladies this week are on point. I am so over major shrinkage and single strand knots most of all. The shrinkage affects how full my afro is and the single strand knots just get on my last nerve.
    2. I use mostly natural/organic products, oils, and butters for my hair. I have found that my hair doesn’t like products with ingredients that aren’t natural, so I give it what it likes and minimize my use of other products.
    3. I did great last week. I saw some growth and great moisture retention. I have been wearing a protective style for the past couple of weeks and my goal is to stick with it for atleast two more weeks. I have oiled my edges and scalp three days out of the week, which is great. I am still loving participating in this challenge. :-)

  • Una

    1) I am kind of over people asking “how did you get your hair to do that?” How does one explain it’s simply the texture of my hair? I don’t mind sharing my techniques (which are few and far between) but when it doesn’t work out for them, I sometimes get the “you lied to me look.” But at this point it’s whatever.
    2) I prefer whatever product that will help me achieve the look I’m going for with minimal permanent damage.
    3) I have followed through with my goals of 3x a week application. Also, I now put the Jamaican Castor Oil in a spray bottle out of sheer laziness. It seems a bit easier to apply to my hair and scalp now but the spout does get clogged from time to time. I suppose nothing is 100%.

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
I’m so over people doing it for a fad. I’m also over people rolling their eyes because I say I’m natural. If its not your choice fine but dont try to down me for it. Ive been natural for years not just now!
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I look at everything. Of course we all watched youtube videos and asked questions at natural hair conventions, etc. I now know what works for my hair and what doesnt so if the ingredients arent ok im not either
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
last week I didnt do as often as i shouldve. I was out of the country and more focused on vacation but I did apply when I thought about it and when I washed my hair from swimming

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
Yes. Trying to find the right products and protective styles. i don’t know why but I’m having a really hard time. I hate having to spend so much time on my hair.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I’m pretty much open to anything but I find that All Natural products seem to work better for me.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I didn’t have as much growth as some but I followed all my goals. No challenges things seem to be getting better every week. I am thinking of using regular castor oil vs JBCO. I see a few ladies that use that have better results with growth. Also its cheaper lol

Oooooooooooooo, I’m so behind. Here are my pics and answers to last weeks questions.
    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
Yes the looking for definition stages. I’m just me!!! Rainy days, wondering what to do with my hair…. there are so many I’m over it things.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? I try to use natural organic, but I confess, I use other stuff too. When in a pinch. Why? I think it’s more healthy. I have a better understinad of what is really in the products.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Good really, I just forgot to post.
Did you follow through with your goals? I am doing more flat twists to practice in case I want to try something to go out one day… Any challenges thus far? Just flat twisting and cornrowing. I just can’t!!!

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
If thier was one thing I would say is when people be like is that all your hair , oh wow you really look good going all natural I don’t know how you do it. (lol)
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I prefer to use all natural organic prioducts since it’s been doing good so far with my hair don’t plan to change anything no time soon.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
Last week when good. I followered through with my goals and I plan to continue doing what I need to do,

  • http://twitter.com/NotTheSeaWitch October’s very own❤

honestly I am so over all the natural hair care rules! they actually discourage me. so I just listen to my hair.

I typically use all natural hair products but if they aren’t all natural and they work I still use them! lol

last week I applied the oil three times a week as usual. I still have hair sewn in so I haven’t seen my growth yet and I am anxious! :)

  • Noni_P

We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? Do we really need all these products? When I was little (before the perm), my sister and I had long healthy hair without the use of all these products. Now there are so many, that do some many things for some textures and not others but are they really necessary? What if I took it old school? (although I’m not too sure I want to take the risk, lol)
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why? At this point I’m open to anything, haven’t found a specific natural product that produces greater results for me but I’m still a little new to the natural thing
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I slacked off a little last week due to a hectic schedule but I’m back at it now :-)

  • Didi

    Okay, my post disappeared again:
    1. so over doing my hair every day, styles don’t last long enough for me
    2. i’m a self proclaimed pj so anything goes except sulfate shampoos
3.last week not so great, motivation is dwindling, only applied CO 3x in the week, when i’m striving for 5-7. and broke my new bottle of JBCO 2 days after I got it, so I was not impressed, lol

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
I am so over the is natural hair batter than relaxed hair debate. Every person is different, if your natural great if your relaxed great! Natural hair isn’t for everyone. Do what is best for you!

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?

I’m open to anything. My hair is picky sometimes, so I try to stay away from anything that is too harsh. But I will try anything.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did good last week. I haven’t had any challenges as of yet.

    1. I am so over people saying “oh, wow your natural. It looks nice on You but I could never do it.” If you commit to it is possible. At first I wasn’t sure I was going too get through my transition phase but once I set my mind to it , it was soo much easier.
    2. I like products that work for my hair the only restriction I have is that I try not to use products with alcohol and I no longer use shampoo.
    3. Last week I did great. Now that the weather is changing my hair requires a little more moisturizing during the week.

    • Tiffany Hines

Alicia, that’s the same thing I don’t like. It is isn’t for everyone, but keep your opinion to yourself. That just means we are more confident to try it out. :-)

  • missdaniciahumphrey

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
I love being natural but I cant stand night prepping hair for bed to avoid tangles and matting.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I wouldn’t say I’m into all natural products however I strongly stay away from the normal non curly girl friend ingredients such as sulfates, parabans, etc. However I do look for water, essential oils and proteins. I look for products that have simple ingredients.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I was surprise last week with the length checks; I didn’t realize that my hair would grow a few centimeters in 5 weeks time. I was stunned to see that my bangs broke of by a few centimeters but once I realize what I was doing wrong I will be able to get back on track.
Now that I’ve started my fall semester I haven’t really had the chance to tend to my hair in normal regimens so that maybe the cause of the breakage.

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
I’m over people wanting to touch my hair and being surprised at how soft it feels.
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
At first I thought all natural was the only way to go..but for my hair I get really good results with certain products that aren’t all natural so now I just do what’s best for me
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I’ve been doing things differently style wise and I’m starting to get more comfortable with trying styles

My earlier post did not post…. But I am over all the rules…..I use all natural products.. and I completed my goal….

  • MarieT

    1. I am “so over” the comment that natural hair is a “fad.” Grant it, it has become extremely “popular/mainstream” over the past few years; however, natural hair has been here since the beginning of time. I am “so over” having to moisturize, seal, twist/re-braid just about every other night, UGH, lol.

    2. Yes, I do prefer “all natural/organic” hair products. And yes, I am somewhat open to trying other products, granted they don’t have too many “bad” ingredients.

    3. During week 5, I put mini twists in my hair. (My husband has been begging me for the longest to do them, he loves them lol) I have followed through with sealing my ends with castor oil at least 3x time a week, but I dont think i have been as diligent applying it to my edges as I should :/ Nevertheless, I’m enjoying the journey and will continue on :]

  • Keisha M

I’m a little late (well actually very late), but hey, better late than never!! Hope everybody is doing well. Even though I’m loving being natural, I am absolutely over single strand knots! They are soooo annoying, and sadly to say they get the best of me while I’m bored at work :(

I don’t necessarily have a preference for products that are organic or “all natural”. I’m game for trying anything and if my hair likes it, I’ll continue to use them.

I think I did pretty good that week, using more castor oil more times than I anticipated.

  • Katrina

I’m so over detanlging my hair every time I wash it, but I know it’s a necessity, otherwise I’d have bigger problems. :) I prefer natural products, but I don’t mind trying products that aren’t entirely natural as long as they’re not going to damage my hair or have anything thats really harmful. I think I did really good last week. I didnt really have any specific goals last week but it is challenging using JBCO every every week, except for when I put it on my edges every night (thats the easy part).

    1. I am soooooo over single strand knots!!!! And it doesn’t help that I play in my hair A LOT anyway…my twirling fettish just seems to make matters worse. Also over the looks and comments I get since going natural…it’s just hair people…move along.

    2. I’ll basically use ANYTHING that will grow my hair LOL. No but 97% of what I put in my hair is natural or organic, but I do have those one or two products with mineral oil in them. Crazy as it sounds I find some natural products dry my hair MORE than the so called “no no” ones.

    3. I haven’t gotten a chance to do my deep conditioner yet this week and my hair is really crying for it (Wednesday is usually deep condition day)… Def doing that AND a hot oil treatment TOMORROW! Lol. After seeing the results of my length check last week, I am really motivated to keep doing want I’m doing. My biggest struggle right now is time. In addition to my full time job, I’m a freelance graphic designer and I’m swamped right now (which is good thing). It leaves little time for me to pamper my hair as I would like…case in point it’s the end of the week and I haven’t given hair the deep conditioner it’s screaming for! Deep conditioners are a STAPLE in my regime and I know better than to miss it. My goal for this week will be time management.

    1. Im so over people at work thinking this is just my way of being a rebel.
    2. I perfer natural products because I feel they are just good and maybe better than som organic but less costly.
    3. Last week was great now that I can see growth I ‘m more intuned with the process. My challenge was to get this posted-busy week.

    • Tiffany Hines

Pat Ann, I’m with you on that. I’m not a rebel, I just want my hair to be healthy and for it to grow.

    • Jewel Berry

Pat Ann I hear you on the work environment. About 8 years ago, I moved from a part of the USA where naturals were common to a place where “nappy” hair was like the plague. Black folks at work thought I was some sort of cave woman. LOL Now, I see those same women transitioning. Praise God for evolution.

1.Yes…..I am so over reading info from all the different hair sites trying to figure out what ingredients are best for natural hair:cones vs. no cones, mineral oil vs carrrier oils, is it sulfate or paraben free…..yada yada yada. It can become overwhelming but y’alI I am addicted and I keep reading it.
    2. I will say that I prefer the all natural and organic products. However I will use other products if my hair likes it. I just make sure that I wash with a clarifying shampoo to avoid buildup.
    3. Week 5 I am still going strong. Applying oil to my scalp 3x/wk and sealing with castor oil on wash day. I also apply to my edges nightly and I have seen great improvement to my edges. No challenes thus far. I actually look forward to my wash day.

There is nothing that I’m really over except the fault that people are so closed minded to natural hair, no natural hair isn’t for everyone but its for whomever wants to embrace it ….i actually don’t mind using other products that aren’t natural however my hair does prefer natural products more it loves the organic products so my hair wins….last week i did stick to my goals and stayed strong in the challenge

  • catherine1990

1We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
i am so over people saying why do i have my hair like that, that i should just perm it or go to the dominican and just get a blow out.
2 Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
i don’t really prefer all natural/organic products as long as my hair likes it am fine with it.
3How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
i did good last week i oil my scalp and massage my edges with the oils 3 times out of the week. so far no challenges.

    • Tiffany Hines

I feel you Catherine1990 about the blow-out! That’s so much heat, then you would have heat damage, which would lead to you having to cut your hair and start all over.

      • catherine1990

exactly then all my 3 years of hard work would be a waste :( when i decide to get a blow-out i will do myself.

  • Jewel Berry

I am so over having to show length all the time. I love protective hairstyles where my hair doesn’t have to be untwisted or unbraided everyday. In my opinion, it’s not protected if you have to manipulate it everyday.

My products don’t have to be “organic” or all natural. I need some shelf life so I need some man-made ingredients. The term “organic” wasn’t a part of my vernacular 20 years ago so I don’t need it now. LOL

Last week was difficult for me. I used a shampoo that caused my hair to be hard so, I overdid moisturizing. My hair is back to normal so I feel good.

  • http://www.NuBeinCreations.com/ Shakazi Poole

looks like my post did not show so again I am so over all the people who are saying oh I am natural too. when they clearly are not.
I am only using natural products I have managed not to become a product junkie and only have used evoo, coconut oil, castor oil, conditioner and shampoo. oh honey acv and mayo.
    I did well TY

    • Jewel Berry

Shakazi I hear you on that. Folks crack me up when they let their hair airdry and because it’s a little curly, they say they’re natural. THEN when that real mane starts to take over……here comes the perm! LOL

  • http://www.facebook.com/aviann.ferdinandcaterson Aviann Ferdinand-Caterson

deep conditioned this wk with castor oil this wk, gonna get my JBCO nex wk I cannot wait….

  • Robin Thomas

    1. Im so over people asking me when i am going to straighten my hair or saying more power to me because their hair is too thick or nappy to go natural.
2, I prefer all natural products because they work better for my hair but i have recently been branching out and trying products that are not necessarily all natural or organic.
    3. Last week i did not follow through with my goal of baggying 3x a week but i did stick to my other goals.

  • Brittany

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? I am so over people knocking people for not being natural. People should feel free to do whatever they want to do with their hair.

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I am open to using anything that works well with my hair to keep it healthy. I do not eat everything that is natural and organic so until I change my eating habits then I’ll go for trying organic or all natural.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

Yes I did a hot oil treatment and my hair felt wonderful!

We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?

Im so over moisturizing my hair and it still feels dry in the morning lol.

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?

Ive been using all natural products since my journey, however i sometimes switch it up.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did keep up with my program last week. Seeing great results has really been motivating me to stay on track!

  • Nicola

Haven’t posted for a while, so playing catch up……….

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”? I’m so over people asking, when I’m going to relax my hair again (although its less frequent these days)

    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I have no preference really, I tend to use what works well with my hair.

    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I took my hair out of my protective style and was finally able to start using the castor oil to seal my ends as well as continuing with daily use on my scalp and my edges

  • dollfaceinc22

    1. We all love being natural, but is there anything about being natural that you are “so over”?
If I hear “your is so soft …for nappy hair”. or “why is your hair natural that is so old school. How is something that belongs to your hair old school. Why can’t my hair just be soft. Just have shine? :(
    2. Do you prefer “all natural”/”organic” products or are you open to using anything? Why?
I am becoming more and more into earth healthy products and things that will not be big on chemicals and will only pursue my afronicity :) .I have had a bad experience with perming my hair and I might see myself looking at other products possibly in the future to temporarily change my style.. like straighten it but I haven’t discovered a product that can do the job naturally.
    3. How did you do last week (week 5)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did wonderfully. I have started doing my hair in half up half down doos by castor oil and Shea moisture leave in- conditioner my two strand twists putting them in rollers and in the morning removing and unraveling carefully for pretty defined curls on my 4D hair!!!!!!!. I absolutely love the shine and look it gives.
