My answers:

1. My growth is AMAZING!!!! I usually get a half of an inch each month, therefore, I should have gotten 1.5 inches during this challenge, HOWEVER my hair grew a whopping 2 inches!!! Using castor oil regularly in my regimen. has been extremely beneficial and I am soooo in love with the results. Not only did I get a half of an inch more then my normal average, I got soft, silky, shiny smooth, healthy hair.

2. I did great girls! I surpassed my goals and I’ve had no challenges. I am definitely going out with a bang as planned. I applied JBCO to my scalp and edges, 4 nights.

3. I want to thank all of you who participated in this challenge with me. It meant a lot to me and I’m very happy with your participation. Eventhough I didn’t have an opportunity to comment on everyone’s weekly check ins, I want you to know that I read each and every entry. Thank you to all of you who read each others posts and commented and supported each other each week. The love does not go unnoticed. Hope to see you during the Fall Challenge if you’re up to it.

4. I really love the coconut JBCO, smells like roasted coconuts! The lavender JBCO has a very feminine floral fragrance

    1. How would you describe your growth from the beginning of the
challenge to now? Considering your typical 3 month hair growth -Is this
more than average, less than average, or the same?
During the challenge, i’ve only been using the JBCO on my edges. Right now, i can’t really tell how much growth i have because i’ve been wearing a protective style for over a month (tree braids), although I’ve still been keeping up with the regimen.

    2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

This past week i followed through with my goals with no challenges.

    3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.?
I will continue using the JBCO daily on my edges in hopes of growth, and once my braids are removed I’ll begin using it throughout my hair as well.

    4. Which JBCO would you like to win – Original, Coconut, or Lavender?
I’d love to win the Coconut JBCO.

    1. How would you describe your growth from the beginning of the challenge to now?
Considering your typical 3 month hair growth -Is this more than average, less than average, or the same?
-I would say that I have had a lot of growth, my hair is longer and thicker than I thought it would have been by now. I think that during this challenge it has grown more than average.
    2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
-I did great last week, I oiled my scalp everynight and used my JBCO on my edges and also used it as a hot oil treatment. Yes I followed through with my goals and I had no challenges thus far.
    3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.?
-I really enjoyed the challenge, it really helped me to take better care of my hair and it also helped my to learn and enjoy the benefits of JBCO!!!
    4. Which JBCO would you like to win – Original, Coconut, or Lavender?’
-I would like to win the lavender please!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/naturalbeautiqueen NaturalBeauti Hester

I have not seen any change in my length due to the fact I have been cutting my hair due to prior heat damage, I did a Dominican blowout on my hair twice and all of my curls did not come back. It wasnt major so I just cut the parts with the damage mostly my edges. But I have seen a major change in the thickness of my hair, it is massive.

I did a hot oil treatment over the weekend and twisted my hair up. I used my oil to moisture my scalp and ends every other day and will be redoing my twist this weekend.

Finally, I really enjoyed the challenge as I am still learning to love my kinks and curls. I have already registered for the next challenge in hopes of seeing a growth change this time.

I would like to try the coconut jbco

  • clewis

Im a new natural so I can determine if my growth was more than usual but my hair did definitely grow and thickness and stronger than it had in my life. My edges did start to grow back in for the first time in years and the nape has doubled In length. My main goal of the challenge was to grow thicker stronger hair. For the fall challenge I will focus more on length.

I did good last week. I applied jbco mixed with coconut oil to my edges 4x this week and to my scalp 3x. I had no challenges.

I reeally enjoyed to challege. I great for me because I was able to develope a hair care regime. Jbco has really thickened and strengthened my hair. I plan on being more diligent in my use of Jbco in the next challenge.

I would love to win the lavender j :)

    • clewis

You can see the difference in thickness between the first and third pic and the second and fourth

    • Tishana Trainor

I agree with clewis, you can see it! Congrats! :)

  • NatashaP

    1. My growth has been aweome. As you can see in the bottom right pic, my ‘fro is positively blooming. I am going to get a trim tomorrow and I’ll do a length check after so I can have official numbers for the Fall challenge.
    2. I did very well last week, sticking to every other day sealing and used castor oil on my edges every day. It’s making a great difference with some of the breakage I had from back to back kinky/spring twists.
    3. I’m so happy I did the spring and summer challenge. Castor oil is definitely one of my holy grail items in my arsenal now.
    4. I’d love to try the coconut oil.

    1. I just cut the rest of my relaxed end on 6/15 after transitioning for 9 months, so I am not sure if I have more growth than normal. However, after looking at my pictures I was amazed at how much growth I do have.
2.I did great last week. Since I put castor oil in almost everything I use, it so much easier to keep up with the application.
3.I loved the challenge and it made keep up with a regimen for my hair. I will be signing up for the fall challenge as soon as I finish this post.

    1. How would you describe your growth from the beginning of the challenge to now? Considering your typical 3 month hair growth -Is this more than average, less than average, or the same?
This second challenge did not go well as i planned. Last challenge i got 2 inches of growth, and this challenge i did not see as much growth this time around. I don’t know, i was thinking maybe because my hair was in braids but i used my oils and shampoo. Well i am continuing so hopefully we will see what happens in the next phase hopefully i can reach my apl by then. I am 2 inches from apl in the back

    2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did well this week as planned and will continue in my challenge

    3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.? I love this challenge because it keeps me having to be on top of my stuff and it helps me to better take care of my hair like i want to and be happy. Thanks again

    4. Which JBCO would you like to win – Original, Coconut, or Lavender?
I would love to win the lavender. I have two bottles of the coconut, and the original castor oil, I love this stuff

    1. How would you describe your growth from the beginning of the
    challenge to now?
I am new to natural hair even though i had locs for seven years before this, only been fully natural since June 25. I can say my hair seems thicker to me than when I first started since i did a twist out when i first started and it was horrible and now it is a lot better. I cut the ends of my hair during the challenge

Considering your typical 3 month hair growth -Is this
more than average, less than average, or the same? not sure would be better able to say after the Fall Challenge

    2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? Last week was ok, did the scalp and edges nightly and LOC twice. No challenges thus far

    3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.? Thank you Jenell for introducing me to Castor Oil and its wonders. I am presently using the cold press Castor Oil, but would love to try the JBCO and see the other wonders that are possible.

    1. How would you describe your growth from the beginning of the challenge to now? Considering your typical 3 month hair growth -Is this more than average, less than average, or the same? I think it was average, but I think that was because I wasnt as faithful as I could have been with my hair

    1. How would you describe your growth from the beginning of the challenge to now? Considering your typical 3 month hair growth -Is this more than average, less than average, or the same?
~its probably more at average as far as length but my edges are definitely thicker!!!
    2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
~last week i was still in my protective style of crochet braids and the way i installed it this time made it hard for me to get to my scalp but i still applied it just not as often as with my previous set of crochet braids. but did really good with the daily application to the edges.
    3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.?
this challenge really has instilled in me a love for Castor oil, as of now Castor oil is a definite part of just about everything i do to my hair, the pre-poo, deep conditioning, scalp application. thanks so much for the information and the challenge.
    4. Which JBCO would you like to win – Original, Coconut, or Lavender?
i have the Lavender so would love to experience the Coconut.

  • Doline

    1. How would you describe your growth from the beginning of the challenge to now? Considering your typical 3 month hair growth -Is this more than average, less than average, or the same?
I haven’t really done any consistent/comparison length checks before this challenge so I don’t know what my typical 3 month hair growth is. I’m thinking it may have been the same as usual because I mostly used the JBCO on my edges consistently than the other uses.
    2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
Followed through by putting JBCO on scalp once, and edges nightly. No challenges.
    3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.?
Towards the end of this challenge i found my hair really like it when I sealed using JBCO. I plan on using it more for that and other uses consistently in the next challenge.
    4. Which JBCO would you like to win – Original, Coconut, or Lavender?
    Love the Coconut JBCO!

    1. How would you describe your growth from the beginning of the
challenge to now? Considering your typical 3 month hair growth -Is this
more than average, less than average, or the same?
My hair growth seemed to be normal. The castor oil helped fill in some edges but the growth was ordinary based on sight only.

    2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
Went through a bit of a schedule change and that threw me off. But I got back on track just in time for the end.

    3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.?
I don’t know if castor oil is good for adding length but it did help with dryness and my edges so it wasn’t a total loss.

    4. Which JBCO would you like to win – Original, Coconut, or Lavender?
I would like to try the lavender.

    1. How would you describe your growth from the beginning of the challenge to now? Considering your typical 3 month hair growth -Is this more than average, less than average, or the same?

I have never ever seen such a growth spurt being braided before. In the two months of my BRAID-cation, I have seen the amount of growth generally obtained in 6 month’s time!!
    2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did pretty great, I think! This is my last week (probably) of the braids, so I am looking forward to incorporating castor oil into my loose hair regimen!!
    3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.?
I am so happy that I participated in this challenge! I have grown to LOVE castor oil for my hair and skin and I know with certainty I wouldn’t have without being a part of this!!!

    1. How would you describe your growth from the beginning of the
challenge to now? Considering your typical 3 month hair growth -Is this
more than average, less than average, or the same?

I never monitored my hair growth until this very challenge so I can not say for certain if I have seen more, less or average growth. However, I just signed for the Fall Challenge so I will be able to monitor my growth pattern more closely from this point forward.

    2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

Week 12 went great! I applied to my edges, scalp 6x’s and DC’d with the JBCO. I wanted to end the challenge with a *BANG*! :)

    3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.?

I really loved this challenge! It made me be much more accountable for the commitment. As in all aspects of life once I write something down and communicate it to others, I feel more incline to not fall of the wagon. Having this community of women cheering each other along for 12 weeks just made living up to my commitment far easier. THANK YOU!

    4. Which JBCO would you like to win – Original, Coconut, or Lavender?

The Coconut, please & thank you! :-)

    1. I definitely see growth in the front which was my weak spot. Been nursing it due to heat damage and my twists are noticeably longer than when i first started the challenge
    2. i did good, used it as a prepoo, scalp massage oil and to set my twists at night
    3. i loved my first castor oil challenge looking forward to the next one
    3. i would like to win the coconut or lavendar castor oil

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=8339048 Jennifer Westbrooks

    1. I would describe my growth as steady. I have never paid attention to my hair growth before so I have nothing to compare this summer’s challenge with, but I can definitely say that I have retained my length well. I used tank tops with stripes to compare my hair growth and I went from the top of colored line 5 to the top of colored line 6, which is a little more than 2 inches.

    2. The last week went well, I sealed my hair once and oiled my scalp 3 times. No challenges, just progress!
    3. I would like to say thanks to Jenell for hosting an great challenge. I have discovered how amazing castor oil is and I am in love, lol! After one year of being natural I began using heat to style and sadly I continued to use heat to style my hair instead of styling naturally. While my hair grew, constantly using blow dryers and flat irons kept me from retaining much heat. My 5 year natural hair anniversary was this summer and I feel like it was a second chance to embrace my hair and my kinky curly texture. I might flat iron my hair this winter but for me heat styling is no longer a necessity.

    4. I would like to win the coconut JBCO.

    1. How would you describe your growth from the beginning of the challenge to now? Considering your typical 3 month hair growth -Is this more than average, less than average, or the same?
My hair grew more than average in the front and sides. The back is about the same. My edges on the right did better than the left..but then again I did not consistently add JBCO to my edges every day :(
    2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did well..I used JBCO to pre-poo and on my edges at least twice in the week.
    3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.?
Hopefully I’ll be more consistent in using JBCO on my edges.
    4. Which JBCO would you like to win – Original, Coconut, or Lavender?

    I cant believe we’re done!
    1. How would you describe your growth from the beginning of the challenge to now? Considering your typical 3 month hair growth -Is this more than average, less than average, or the same?
My growth was amazing! I actually got 2 inches which is a half inch more than my usual! However, my hair suffered from over manipulation and I had to trim my ends.

    2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did excellent. I kept my hair in cornrows to give it a break, and I still applied castor oil and coconut oil 3 times during that week. I had some itching again, so my scalp was detoxing. I decided to give my hair a break by cornrowing it for a week every other month.

    3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.?
I loved this challenge and cant wait for the Fall challenge! I loved having others following along with me. The check-ins helped keep me accountable to myself and the challenge. Yay us!

    4. Which JBCO would you like to win – Original, Coconut, or Lavender?
    Coconut all day!

I posted before and after pics… First one is the start of the challenge, the second is tonight… WOWSERS!

    1. How would you describe your growth from the beginning of the challenge to now? My hair growth has been phenomenal. Considering your typical 3 month hair growth -Is this more than average, less than average, or the same? My growth can best be described as more than average. I’ve never experienced this much growth in a 3 month period.

    2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I followed through with all my goals. I oiled my scalp every single day with castor oil and my edges 2x a day with JBCO.

    3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.? I really enjoyed taking part in the challenge. I enjoyed it so much that I have also registered for the fall challenge and I am extremely excited about it and looking forward to seeing how much more growth I will have in the following months.

    4. Which JBCO would you like to win – Original, Coconut, or Lavender? I would love to win the Coconut JBCO. I’ve used the regular JBCO all along and would love to try a different kind.

    1. How would you describe your growth from the beginning of the challenge to now? Considering your typical 3 month hair growth -Is this more than average, less than average, or the same?
I think my hair has really grown more with this challege. I had hair loss in my crown and it is really growing and getting thicker there. My hair is must thicker now also and the curl pattern has really come in now.
    2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did great last week. I deep conditioned almost every night last week with the castor oil. And I can tell the difference.
    3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.?
This was a great challenge. I will be signing up for the fall one too. Black castor oil is now a keeper for me.
    4. Which JBCO would you like to win – Original, Coconut, or Lavender?
    I would like Lavender please.
I will need to find the beginning pictures to compare.

    1. How would you describe your growth from the beginning of the
challenge to now? Considering your typical 3 month hair growth -Is this
more than average, less than average, or the same?

I think my growth was GREAT! Compared to the last challenge, it grew more than average this time. Check out the pics – the first collage is week one.

    2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

No challenges at all. I applied to my scalp 5 days and to my edges every day.

    3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.?
Another great challenge! During the Winter/Spring challenge, I used castor oil on my scalp, edges, and on my hair for my twistouts. During the Summer challenge, I didn’t use CO directly on my hair because it was too heavy but it grew more than the other challenge. I don’t know what that’s about but I also feel like my hair is a little thinner. I also experienced some breakage along my hair line that my stylist attributed to the permanent color I had put in my hair. I’m still trying to figure it all out and that’s why I’ll be joining the fall/winter challenge.

    4. Which JBCO would you like to win – Original, Coconut, or Lavender? Coconut please.

    • Tazzee

oops, the second collage is week 1.

I am shocked to see how much my hair has grown. And also my hair is a lot thicker which is why I did the challenge. I got about 1 1/2 to 2 inches of growth.

    2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

My hair has been in protective styles but I still have been able to get to my scalp and message the JBCO in.

    3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.?

Can’t wait for the next one.

    4. Which JBCO would you like to win – Original, Coconut, or Lavender?

    1. I can tell my hair has grown at least an inch all around. I know my hair has grown because my edges have filled in a lot more. My hair seems a little thicker.
    2. I did fine last week.
    3. I enjoyed the challenge! I will join the next challenge & I will still use castor oil! This was really fun to commit to and I’m glad you ladies saw results.
    4. I would like to win original JBCO.
The first pic is probably from around the beginning on July. The 2nd pic was from the end of May, before the challenge. The last pic is my hair flat ironed last week! I do see a change in length!

I want to say thank you for introducing me to the use of the oil for my hair. I was really consistent in the beginning but fell off in the last week. I applied the oil about twice this week.

My hair growth seems to be more than average. I think it grew about 2 inches. My daughters edges are filling in nicely and I think she had about 11/2 inches of growth.

I really like the coconut scent!!!

Thanks again Jenell for facilitating this challenge. See you in the falll!

    1. How would you describe your growth from the beginning of the
challenge to now? Considering your typical 3 month hair growth -Is this
more than average, less than average, or the same?
I have been getting steady growth since growing natural– However, during the Summer CO challenge, I can say my growth was more than average! My hair responded well to the CO and I am so very thankful for awesome results. My hair grew, as well as got a bit thicker… So I met my goals all the way around:) At first I thought my hair was not growing, but I forgot to take into account that I am transitioning; and I trim my hair every 6 weeks in hopes of doing away with my relaxed ends little by little. So Since the challenge started, I have cut my hair twice:) and its still a wee bit longer from when we first staRted the challenge in June:))) I am SUPERJUICED YA’LL! :) LOL

    2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
My last week was a breeze! I sailed onto this final week with my mind ready to start this challenge over honey! I followed my weekly regimen and is SOOOOO ready to start the fall challenge:)

    3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.?
Loving the camaraderie here between the ladies and the wealth of information shared, so thankful i was introduced to JBCO by KCCM! Its a FOREVER STAPLE HONEY! I use it in my hair, my skin, on my eye lashes (which have grown as well) and I am so happy!

    4. Which JBCO would you like to win – Original, Coconut, or Lavender?
    Coconut please ma’am– Thanks!

    1. How would you describe your growth from the beginning of the challenge to now? Considering your typical 3 month hair growth -Is this more than average, less than average, or the same? I have to say, even though I was lazy sometimes I still noticed more growth than I expected. And I would say it is a little more than average for me. And I shed a good bit, even when I’m as tender as baby’s skin with my hair, so to still see the growth I achieved surprised me in an awesome way. :D
    2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? Yes, I did. I did my weekly massages and sealing. And added some castor oil to my deep conditioner.
    3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.? This was my very 1st natural hair challenge of any kind and I enjoyed it! It helped me maintain a better discipline with my hair regimen.
    4. Which JBCO would you like to win – Original, Coconut, or Lavender? Lavender; I’ve fallen IN love with this scent! :)
The first pic is a length check I did on July 1. And the second pic was taken August 25.

My hair growth has been awesome. I was surprised at the growth from the beginning of the challenge to now.
    2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did well last week, I was able to meet all of my goals. I even got an extra deep conditioning in.
    3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.?
JBCO and regular castor oil will definitely remain a part of my normal routine. And I will try to post pics soon, I live in the new orleans area & we were affected by hurricane Issac and I am finally able to get online again.
    4. Which JBCO would you like to win – Original, Coconut, or Lavender?
I would like to win the coconut JBCO, because this is the only one that I haven’t tried yet.

just made it. I am back to work and so busy, I almost forgot the last check in.

    Anyway…
    1. How would you describe your growth from the beginning of the challenge to now? Considering your typical 3 month hair growth -Is this more than average, less than average, or the same? I am so made at myself for not measuring my hair because I know that I have retained at least 2 inches of growth. This is definitely more than average for me. I think that it is a combination of better handling of my ends and the use of JBCO. I am ready to measure for the fall challenge and excited to see how long it grows! 2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did great and am excited to continue right through the fall. I applied three to four nights a week to my edges and scalp. 3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.? Love, Love, Love it. So glad that I signed up for the summer challenge and encourage those who are wondering to try it out. It really is a trial and error process to find what works for YOUR hair. 4. Which JBCO would you like to win – Original, Coconut, or Lavender? I would love to win the coconut!

  • Karemel

1 I think my growth was about thee same. It’s okay, though-my challenge wasn’t about growth.
    2. I did better last week. A stable week after spending MANY hours in the car the previous week.
3 I loved this challenge and I’m looking forward to the Fall Challenge.
    4. I think I’d like to try the Lavender JBCO.

    1. How would you describe your growth from the beginning of the challenge to
now? Considering your typical 3 month hair growth -Is this more than average,
less than average, or the same?
For me it’s hard to judge my own hair growth. But I think I’ve noticed
thicker hair, less breakage, and more growth on the sides and the back of my
hair. The front had the least progress in my opinion. I think if I was more
diligent I would have had better results. Also I wish I used the Rosemary JBCO
first. It’s definitely a power house! So generally speaking, I think my growth
increased about 1/2 to an inch each month. I wanted more but then again like I
said before it’s hard for me judge.
~Oh pssst, I guess it must be working since a lot of new naturals stop me in
the street and ask me for advice or compliment me. I guess they notice more
than I ever will. >.< Lol

    2. How did you do last week (week 12)? Did you follow through with your
    goals? Any challenges thus far?
Barely. Moving and doing all this stuff really messed up my flow. Then with
the stress of grad school… I just have to set aside time to pamper my hair. Lol

    3. Final Thoughts, comments, feedback etc.?
I love the challenge but the Fall challenge will be better! I also have to
make sure to stick to oiling my scalp and incorporating hot oil treatments!

    4. Which JBCO would you like to win – Original, Coconut, or Lavender?
    Coconut please!
