3 more weeks to go!

I can’t believe that this challenge is almost over, like I feel like we just started the other day and June 1 is almost right around the corner.

Don’t forget that you can save 10% on all your jbco purchases from OilsFromJamaica when you use the code KCCM10.

Check In Questions:

1. Where do you go to shop for products?

2. How did you do last week (week 9)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

My answers:

1. I usually go to Target because they have the top of the line/popular products in stock and I shop online at CurlMart because they always have sales!

2. I did well girls! Like I said last week, My hair has been doing very well since the beginning of this challenge and I want to see this final month out with a BANG. I did pretty good. My hair doing much better than it has been. I applied jbco mixed with coconut oil 4x this week. I use with the aloe Vera gel which has been a great combo fir me. I can’t wait for the fall challenge :)

    • ELA

I can testify to the CO and aloe vera – my hair absolutely LOVES the mix :)

      • Clewis 27

Yes!!!I’m so glad I discovered aloe Vera gel. It is the best things to happen to my hair. And I recently discovered that its a natural heat protector so I’ve been blowing out my hair using it and my natural curls always return after I wash

      • Ms.Music

where did you buy your aloe vera gel from?

        • http://twitter.com/blackizbeutiful chima lubin

You can get it at your local whole food store. One brand of the jell is called lilly of the dessert.

        • ELA

You can get it from any local health shop. I’m in the UK and I got mine from Holland and Barrett AND it was on offer…. How lucky was that!!! So if you live here, great place to check out :)

Aloe is soo good for the hair. I use the actual aloe vera plant along with eggs as pre-poo before I wash my hair. I absolutely love the way this define my curls.

      • bianca pierre

I will try this! Do u use the whole egg or just the whites

    2. How did you do last week (week 9)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? – Last week was amazing. I surpassed my goals. I have been mixing my own hair concoctions and castor oil has been in EVERYTHING. I did my first wash and go since my BC and CO was in there.  I have been using aloe vera as a sealant and of course added CO. I mixed CO with my conditioner for two co-washes and my daily spritzing and application to my edges have been going strong. CO has been in everything in my hair this week – definitely more  than 5 applications. My hair looks really healthy too. Woop woop :)

  • http://twitter.com/lexluxxe Ms. Ocean

Target, Drug Stores, Grocery stores for sales on the Organics line, and Whole Foods for oils and clay. If I need tools I go online i.e. curlers, brushes or special towels.

I did good. I’m holding on strong. My hair may need extra tlc this week though since I was moving , I went longer without washing than I normally would.

  • Mitchlib

    1. Where do you go to shop for products? I get most of my products at knowledge bookstore and sometimes target.
    2. How did you do last week (week 9)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did good. Yes I did with no challenges.
    My answers:

  • Tishana Trainor

    Hi, everyone!
    1. Where do you go to shop for products?
Well, this is tricky. I am semi employed… Yes, semi… So I am not making the big bucks… But my sister is. She buys stuff ALL OF THE TIME, and if she’s not trying it, she brings it to me, and I try it since we have nearly the same hair (Both 4a, she has fine hair, mine is a little more coarse). I get my Shea Moisture stuff at Target, and I go to one of the hundreds of beauty supply stores in ATL to get other stuff Target doesnt carry.

    2. How did you do last week (week 9)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did ok. I didnt apply nightly, but I did apply after my wash on Saturday, then on Sunday and Monday (3x). This week was all about a 5 day wash and go with Smooth N Shine curl activator gel, and I only applied it once on Tuesday, then refreshed with a spritz in the morning. Tomorrow morning will be day 5 then I’ll wash. I’m gonna see if applying castor oil affects it any. I really love this look and its low manipulation… But since I, too, wanna go out with a bang, I’m gonna apply more castor oil next week, maybe just to my scalp or maybe just to seal. Challenges, no.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=8339048 Jennifer Westbrooks

    1. I usually shop at Ulta, they have good sales and I get coupons, or order online from Amazon.

    2. I’m upping my CO use to 4 x a week on scalp and sealing my hair after washes, 1 time a week. No challenges so far and I can’t believe this challenge is almost over. I’m thinking about joining the Fall challenge and extending my personal no heat challenge until December. It’s so nice not having to worry about flat ironing my hair and I can workout hard and not worry about sweating out straight hair. I’m 8 inches away from waist length hair and I’ve already gained 1.5 inches just this summer. Maybe next year this time I’ll be there.

  • Norkita White

    – I did great, I followed through with all of my goals and the only challenge I had was fairy knots, I have a lot of them so I had to dut them off before my hair got really bad.

  • Vbailey35

    1. Where do you go to shop for products? Usually online, Target , and Rite Aid.
    2. How did you do last week (week 9)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did ok, I was really busy but with my hair in a protective style, my hair stayed moisturized. Met most of my goals, but next week, I’ll be better.

  • http://www.facebook.com/naturalbeautiqueen NaturalBeauti Hester

I usually go to Sally’s Beauty Supply. Since I use alot of oils and they can get expensive I sometimes see if I can find a cheaper price on ebay.
I did well I am wearing a protective style for the next month. I have been spraying my hair every two days and I do notice the thickness. I have been tell ppl to use it alot :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Cecilia-Walcott/671326735 Cecilia Walcott

     1. Where do you go to shop for products?

I live in Barbados, so I can order on line which is expensive due to shipping costs. There are local stores that items can be purchased from

    2. How did you do last week (week 9)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

Last was ok for me I sealed twice not three times but scalp and edges nightly, so not all my goals achieved. No real challenges thus far.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=38904073 Natalie Gore

    1. Where do you go to shop for products?
~definitely Walgreens sometimes CVS. periodically i hit up Whole Foods and a few websites (HoneyLoveHoneyChile, & CurlJoy)
    2. How did you do last week (week 9)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
~did really good,i have even got up to daily scalp application, as well as i took my crochet braids down, included CO in my pre-poo and after my Bentonite treatment (which was the bomb might i add, my hair LOVED it) i did my regular KimmayTube Leave-In which has CO in it, so doing pretty good! thinking of joining the Fall Challenge as well.

  • NatashaP

I usually buy staple products online, but I will pick things up at Target or Walgreens.

I did great last week, using castor oil to seal and applying to my scalp and edges 3 times.

  • http://twitter.com/lez_not No.

I go wherever I can find what I want so either online, CVS or the dollar store since they are walking distance from where I live.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/WLA25SCRZBBLA5N333DJ4JTAIU vernatta

. Where do you go to shop for products?
All over the place actually, I go where I can find the products for a great price. sometimes I just need it and have to buy it without thinking about price, but hey.

    2. How did you do last week (week 9)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
Last week I did great. I’m still using the mixture that I made up, and I sometimes put the pure JBCO on my edges. It works great. I put color on my hair, and I can see the growth, so that’s wonderful. I haven’t had any challenges so far. I think even after the challenge is over I will continue with it. My JBCO is almost done, so I have to replenish, I think im going to get the lavender one next.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1639362303 Monique Grannum

I mostly shop online but I do find some products at target and Walgreens. Amazon carries a lot of products. Other than that, I go to specific websites for certain things that I use.

Last week was good. I used the castor oil daily. It’s time for me to clarify; I feel like I may have build-up. Other than that, my hair seems to be thriving!!!

  • Amber Plummer

Mostly on line, or from Health shops.

    2. How did you do last week (week 9)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I was very pleased what I did last week, I increased my massaging and I had no challenges.

  • Richelle Thomas

I normally shop online because my favourite products (Qhemet biologics) are not sold where I live.

I finshed putting in Senegalese twists this week!!!! whoo that took FOREVER. I find that applying my castor oil is so much simplier in the twists and so far I like them a lot. No complaints here :-)

  • shanta ferguson

    1. I usually shop at Wlagreen’s and Bernard’s Beauty Store. I also shop at Walmart for my regular Castor Oil.

    2. I did really good this week. I stuck to my goal. I am so loving my growth from this challenge.

  • http://www.mybelledonfull.com/ Madamchef

I do my shopping in various locations, Walmart/Target in the US, Boots in the UK and in Nigeria I have a friend who actually makes natural skin and haircare products so she now supplies me with most of what I need, especially shea butter and coconut oil. I just bought some products from Uncle Funky’s Daughter in Houston (where I also got my hair twisted) so I’m looking forward to trying those out this weekend.

I did quite well. Used caster oil 5 times this week. My hair has grown! Even though I got it trimmed last weekend I can see the growth. Exciting. I’m still trying to figure out what works best with my hair as I still feel it’s drier than I would like but it’s improving

  • Anterria

1.I shop at Target, Walgreens, Walmart, and Local Beauty Supply and the Dollar Store!
2.I did good last week, and followed through with my goals!!

  • Funkystarkitty50

     Check In Questions:

    1. Where do you go to shop for products? I go to Sally’s, Target and a locally owned beauty supply store that is 6 exits from me because I live in the back woods where it’s 2% Black people. LOL

    2. How did you do last week (week 9)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did a hot oil treatment, a deep conditioning treatment and a co-wash. My hair has recovered from the beach trip and the salt water exposure.

  • http://www.facebook.com/Notoriousflirt Ginger Brothers

I usually purchase products from local beauty supply store or Target, and online…I usually want to smell and look and see the product up close so shopping in real time for hair care products is a bit of an obsessive/Compulsion I have now developed…

Sidenote My 6 month post BC anniversary was in July so I decided to do a length check… started this challenge out with 3.5 inches on top of my head and sides were 1.5 inches with back being 1 inch in length…Since the Challenge as of July 25, 2012 my hair in the middle/top of my head is now 6 and a quarter inches long and my sides are 3 inches (my sides are the hardest to grow it seems) and the back of my hair is 2.5. Now I still get my hairline shaped up at the barber so this could be the reason for the lack of length in the back…But I am so proud of the progression of my hair. Week 9 no challenges other than I am almost done with my 5th bottle of JBCO since this challenge started and I am thinking about doing the FALL challenge..It has been a journey but this hair challenge has made my BC grow out stage a bit more tolerable. Thanks again Jenell and You look STUNNING…Wearing my favorite color and I like the hairstyle…how long did it take for the hair style? Cannot wait until I am close to being able to add some versatile styles to my hair care regimen.

    • http://kinkycurlycoilyme.com/ Jenell : BlakIzBeautyful

      Tsk Tsk Tsk’!

No length checks til the end of the challenge.
      Great growth though!!

Thanks, the stylist was so fast it took about 30 minutes to braid it then another 5-10 to twist the front. I sat under the dryer and then she untwisted and teased and pinned.

  • Doline

    1. Where do you go to shop for products?
I used to go to Sally’s Beauty Supply, Walmart, and Walgreens. In the last few months i’ve gotten my products online.
    2. How did you do last week (week 9)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
I did well. Keeping  up with the JBCO on edges nightly before tying it up. Took down my pro-style and will be washing tomorrow. Will make an effort to put JBCO all over my scalp and end the last few weeks with a bang as well! Challenge has been doing more with the castor oil.

    • http://kinkycurlycoilyme.com/ Jenell : BlakIzBeautyful

You don’t have to do any more, just use it. If all u did was Massage on scalp daily, you’d be doing enough.

  • Nell

    1. I usually shop at Target or Walmart or sometimes the BSS.
    2. I’m not sure if I said this previously but last week I was able to do a length check and my hair has growth significantly! This urged me to keep going with this challenge with more focus and intent so I decided to focus on my edges since they were dwindling (more than I noticed before!). This week I put castor oil on my edges about twice a day for three to four days… thing is I also wore my hair in a puff (not too tight on the sides) pretty much all week (because it was easy). I hope it doesn’t defeat the purpose of the castor oil…

    • http://kinkycurlycoilyme.com/ Jenell : BlakIzBeautyful

No it doesn’t. U used it, that’s what matters.

  • http://www.facebook.com/clementskathy Kathy Clements

Amazon, CVS and GMC are the places I shop. My jamaican black castor oil I’ve been using for the last two weeks is doing better then the CVS plain castor oil. My hair is doing good , I feel like my hair is getting thicker at the roots.

  • candisrainey

    1. Where do you go to shop for products?
usually target for shea moisture products
    2. How did you do last week (week 9)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?
yes i did. starting to feel a little discourage thought, im not sure if castor oil is working for me. i wonder if i am not using enough as i have only used about 2 ounces this whole challenge.

  • houston2b

    1. Where do you go to shop for products? I shop Target, Walgreens and Whole Foods..

    2. How did you do last week (week 9)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I did great..I mixed my JBCO with my knot2day conditioner and Jojoba oil and sealed everynight…Waiting for the fall challenge to begin :-)

  • http://www.facebook.com/FayeV6g Faye Venable

I shop all over the place Target, Walgreen, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, my local beauty supply and the internet.

This week went very well, I noticed that my hair line in the front is filling in and i was very excited about that.  This challenge was exactly what the doctor call for, I’m so glad I did it and can’t wait to see what the next challenge will bring as far as growth and healthy hair.

  • http://twitter.com/humbly4real Stanethia R. Miller

I usually shop at WalMart, Walgreens, or my local beauty supply store for my hair products.
Last week went well! I found a new co-washing conditioner that I really like as my “shampoo”. It’s VO5 Silky Experiences Shea Butter and Vanilla or something like that! My hair loved it. I had box braids in but I took them out because they began to frizz. I decided to just do better in taking care of my hair and stop being lazy. My scalp has been really itchy so I know I need to increase how much I was it to a few times a week! I hope everyone else is doing well! Ready to enter the Fall challenge! The picture below is a braidout I just did today!

  • Symone Michelle

    2. This past week was great. No challenges at all. Although I have noticed some breakage along my hair line that has me pretty upset. I don’t know if my hair is too soft for my twists or if it’s stress because life was crazy during July. I’ve been applying my CO and I’m going to see my stylist Tuesday.

  • Feron

I shop at Target and Walmart for my products but for my home made products and oils I shop at Earth Fare which is like a whole foods.

I did great this week as I have been I’ve been noticing a lot of growth and like you I hope to finish out this on a high note by in addition to oiling my scalp, I’m sealing my ends now with the oil.

    1. Where do you go to shop for products? local beauty supply stores, Target, Walgreens, Walmart, Amazon, Etsy, the health food store, I’ll even browse the haircare aisles in the Dollar Store & Kroger. As you can see I can be quite the shopaholic. lol

    2. How did you do last week (week 9)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?  This week I was back on my game; using it to seal in my moisture and to massage my scalp.  I even tried something new by mixing only castor oil in my rhassoul clay.  Fabulousness!! :D

  • Tomi-chan

    1. Where do you go to shop for products? I do most of my shopping online because it’s usually easier than trying to track down where all my products are individually.
    2. How did you do last week (week 9)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I tried to straighten my hair… failed… burnt my ends crispy. I just want to cry in a corner. Sigh, whatever it’s only hair. It’ll grow back I guess.

  • April

I mostly frequent Target for products….I have to admit that I am afraid to buy new ones because I just starting out but i plan to venture out there someday. I did much better than the week before…I still haven’t been able to do more than 3x per week though.

Sometimes I shop online through Amazon, Ebay or I shop for products in whole foods, walgreens, sally, walmart, local beauty supply store, and the vitamin shop.

I did pretty well last week, I used the castor as an over night hotoil treatment before my wash day and even before that I use on my ends, edges and on my scalp at least 4 times last week. No challenges.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1176581512 Rhonda I. McClain

    1. I shop for products in different places. I get some of my products online through the amazon marketplace. I make some of my other products using different ingredients from a health food store located here in Virginia Beach. I use a Shea butter moisturizer from 21 beauty (hair store). I love making things so I have been shopping around for the best prices.
    2. I didn’t do as well as I hoped last week because I was in the process of moving and had to work all week. I did however manage to meet my goals for the week. I found out, much to my dismay, that the new apartment that I moved to has dry air and dries my hair out faster than the old place did so I will have to adjust my moisturizing schedule accordingly.

    1. I usually shop at Target, Walgreens, Wal-Mart or whever my particular producys are on sale.
    2. I did good. My hair is super soft and I hardly have any knots or tangles. For this challenge I decided to use the regular pharmacy castor oil only, however, for the fall challenge I will ordering some JBCO.

    1. Where do you go to shop for products?

I shop at Rite Aide, CVS, Walgreens, and online for my products.

    2. How did you do last week (week 9)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

I did stick to my goals and applied my JBCO to my edges 3x a week.

    1. Where do you go to shop for products?

I am ALLLLL over the map when shopping for my products.  I do not have one specific place that I am married to when buying my products.  It’s the PJ in me that has be going from pillar to post for my next PJ fix. smh

    2. How did you do last week (week 9)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far?

I am really hitting my stride with this challenge and even finding my creative spirit with using the Castor Oil.  Goals are being exceed! No challenges. (YAY me!!)

    1. Where do you go to shop for products? My regime is simple, so I can usually find my stuff around the way. I am luck to live in NYC, so I get my oils including JBCO from Nichols on 125th st around 5th ave (I think). I use Aussie and HEHH from co washes so I usually pick those up at my local Rite Aid. I’ll also pick them up when they go on sale at Target. I use ECO Styler Protein Gel, which they sell EVERYWHERE. So I can pick that up at my local 99 cent store, bodega or discount store.
    2. How did you do last week (week 9)? Did you follow through with your goals? Any challenges thus far? I am doing well. I just started a new exercise and diet routine, so I struggles with remembering to keep up with my applications. I did make the minimum 3, so I am cool. Just would have like more. No challenges. JBCO is my staple!

Where do you go to shop for products?

I usually shop at Walgreens, Whole Foods, Trader Joes or my local BSS which now sells lots of high end natural hair world products….they even have that Mizani D’Tangle product you had on one of your vids (I’ve been eyeing it)

How did you do last week(week 9)? Last week my hair was in twists all weeks. I spritz with water and massaged with JBCO and Coconut Oils mixed 3 times last week.
Did you follow through with your goals? Yes! I left my hair alone….
Any challenges thus far? I noticed a lot of little fairy knots and some straggly ends in the front and top of my crown…I may (I have to) clip them….#scared but it’s necessary for optimal growth.

    1) Mostly I go to Walgreen’s, Wal-Mart or Whole Foods.

    2) This has been a very challenging week  for me, I did not meet my goals!! It has been HOT AS HAITI where I am and that oil and the heat were not mixing very well for a sister. I hope to get back on track this coming week!

I usually go to target, vitamin shoppe, curl mart and to anyone that has sales online, although I rather get products on the ground as much as possible.

My week was challenging since I was away on vacation I think I was able to oil my scalp at least three times. This week should be much better!

I usually shop at any local hair shops. I bought the Jamaican castor oil from Amazon as it was cheaper. I dont really have a shop out let place to be honest.

Doing ok. I got fed up wid my hair so now its in a protective hair style in twists. I did myself 14hrs. Well worth as now i dnt have to worry about doing my hair. It aint grown much and ends were splitting so had to trim. I have been using the castor oil more on my scalp and edges. I put a little bit on the on my actually twists so it reaches the ends of my hair

I usually get my products from target and walmart since those are the stores that are closest to me and they are good prices. I usually hate waiting for things to come in the mail so I try not to do too much online shopping.

I have to admit, I’ve done awful this week. I Came back from the summer camp I was working at and went straight to the beach and didn’t bring my castor oil or my vitamins :( So I may have fallen off the horse this week but last week was very good and next week will be baller!

This is actually me. I used my sisters iPad and could not figure out how to change it lol

  • http://www.facebook.com/MissArielNicole Ariel Jones

Have to type this all up again because I. Don’t know how to use iPads lol.
Well I shop mostly at target and Walmart because those are the stores closest to me and I get get my stuff at a good price. I also hover around at TJ Maxx and Marshall’s because sometimes I find a gem (like I found a HUGE bottle of bed head moisture maniac conditioner for $15 when the tiny bottle cost 14something at Walmart) I was soon happy

I did really bad last week. I did not bring my castor oil or my vitamins with me on vacation :( so while this week was bad, the week before was really good and I m going to do extra good this week to make up for my major slackage.
