An Easy Professional 40s Style

By Jenell — May 28, 2012

Styling is something that has come easy to me, but I know not to take it for granted because many of you are style challenged.  Lucky for you, you’ve got ME!  I’m here to save the day with a new style. I call it my 40s style because it reminds me of a style you’d see in 1940s pin up photo. The 1940′s pinup models always wore their hair rolled over with some hanging down.

All you need to achieve this look is bobby pins.

I luv how you always place bobby pins in the perfect spot on the 1st try to hold your hair. Every time I watch one of your videos and see you placing 1 bobby pin perfectly on the 1st try in order to hold a large section of hair (such as at 4:50 in this video), I’m like, “Wooooow…I wish I could do that.” Lol :)

Gorgeous hairstyle, btw! I just big chopped my hair a week ago. Dealing with my 7-month-old baby girl + schooling is just proving too much for me and my family right now, lol :) Ah well. I decided to look up some info on your site regarding cute accessories for TWAs and found your great article called  “Accessories for Your TWA!”, as well as “Bring the Sexy Back: Add Hair Accessories to Your Look”. While looking at these articles, I found this one regarding the ’40s professional pin-up hairstyle. Now I can’t wait till I grow my hair out again! :) Your hairstyles are very inspiring. Thank you.

I’m glad you’re doing well with your little bouncing baby! Have a nice day.

      Hey love,

You have me rolling over here at your pin comment. I use pins so often that I’m like a pro at placing them. Also, as my hair gets longer the hair can wrap underneath itself better, making no need for lots of pin to hold the hair.
Sorry about you feeling overwhelmed. I know it’s too late, but couldn’t you have put your hair in a protective style for a few months instead of big chopping again?
I’m glad my hair has inspired you to grow your hair back long. You can focus now on good hair health.

Protective styling is great :) I tried a fold-n-tuck hairstyle for several months and it was working wonderfully until things got so busy that even that low maintenance style wasn’t going to cut it. My detangling sessions were being interrupted too often, so the detangling wasn’t getting done very well. I <3 my stylish TWA, and I'm having fun with it :) ) Yes, hair health first. Growth will come along with time, and then I'll have fun with my longer hair, too :)

Good Morning Jenell . I just saw your vid where you show off your newborn: CONGRADS.  I’m in disbelief that you just had a baby and are still so devoted to helping us. Congrads and Thanks. How do you find time to every night braid or twist your hair before you bonnet it with a 2mo old?  Or once you have braided/twisted is (let’s say on sunday) does teh crimp last the whole week so you just do big sections twists not individual twists? Also, do you use a satin bonnet and or satin pillowcase ?

Haha, I ask myself the same thing “How do I have time to do all of this!?”  I do this because I really really love it. You all mean so much to me and I want to be here for all of you.

I retwist every night in larger twists because I want to hold onto my curl defintion. When Im exhausted, I pull my hair back in a loose ponytail, i dont wrap the elastic band, I just put it around once, but when I do that I cant wear my hair loose because my hair doesnt look like how I want it.

I put on a satin bonnet. I dont have a satin or silk pillow case.

I’ve watched your tutorials in awe.  My hair has zero, and I mean ZERO curl definition.  It is dry, no matter how many oils i use to moisturize and it is on a serious growth plateau.  I would really like to know what you recommend for sealing, moisturizing, twist out creams, shampoo and conditioner.  As it stand my regiments in a weekly wash with aloe vera, then apply oils (coconut and castor oil) and pure shea butter to my hair and scalp.  I’ve tried the Ms. Jessies, Carols Daughter and Komaza Care, I got nothing except a hole in my pocket. I keep my hair in a fro honestly, wrapped up under my wigs for work all week since it’s just so dry. HEEEEEEEELPPPPP PLEASE!!!
